Top 25 WrestleMania stars: No. 11
THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR

WrestleMania history
4 (1988): Defeated Hercules Hernandez
5 (1989): Lost the Intercontinental title to Rick Rude
6 (1990): Defeated Hulk Hogan to win the WWF title
7 (1991): Defeated Randy Savage in a retirement match
12 (1996): Defeated Hunter Hearst Helmsley (Triple H)
Non-wrestling appearance
8 (1992): Did a surprise run-in to save Hogan from an attack by Sid Justice and Papa Shango
Comments: Epic match with Hogan at WM 6 was historic for several reasons. It was the first match between the WWF’s top two babyfaces for the world title since 1972, and in handing Hogan his first clean loss since “The Hulkster” returned to the WWF at the end of 1983, Warrior became the first man to simultaneously hold the WWE and Intercontinental titles. The highly anticipated clash between the two superhero-like figures (but limited workers) exceeded expectations. ... Memorable victory over Savage at WM 7 also was better than expected. ... After some time away from the WWF, Warrior made a surprise return at WM 8. During a two-on-one attack on Hogan after his match against Justice, Warrior’s music hit and he received a huge pop as he ran down the aisle and made the save. ... One of the focal points of WM 12 was yet another return to the WWF by Warrior, who squashed Helmsley in about a minute and a half.
I will count down the top 25 stars in WrestleMania history every day through April 5.

i am glad to see you finally put someone from the 80's because its been a while since youve done that and with that being said i could not find a spot for the warrior believe it or not which is surprising because he has 2 wrestlemania moments the first was his win over hogan and the second 1 was his win over Savage that reunited him and Liz although warrior was gone from the ring by then

He's just lucky there was NO wellness program during the late 80's. I would however like to see him in the "Legends" match against Jericho in WM 25.

I'm enjoying your blog every day but...
No.
As much as I dislike Cena, Warrior has not had a bigger Wrestlemania presence than Cena. You said it yourself, every Cena match has been for a title. I think Angle, and maybe even Edge, have had more of a presence as well...

Great mind's (well in my case good minds) think alike once again.I also have The Ultimate Warrior as my #11.Everybody talks about how you have to be a great worker to have a great match but Hulk and Warrior proved, as long as you OVER,like these two were at the time,it really doesn't matter about work rate.A great wrestling match has to have drama, and the crowd to be emotionally invested in the particapants and this match had it.That was a WrestleMania moment if there every was one.Hogan comming back into the ring and presenting Warrior the belt, the embrace, the slaute as Hogan rode off into the sunset.Wow! I still get chills when I watch that match or highlights of it.I'm sure you're gonna catch hell for having Warrior so high on your list over guys like Edge and Angle but I for one remember being 14 years old watching that match and living that moment with those two guys and that match is one of the reasons I still watch wrestling today, so maybe I could live another moment like that.

I've got nothing wrong with your choice, but the picture is absolutely gross. I don't know what's worse, the obvious roid usuage or the tacky looking spray tan.

So many fans pan the match at WrestleMania XII as nothing but a squash, but I thought it was absolutely AWESOME!! It was the perfect re-introduction for the Ultimate Warrior to leaving his fans stoked to see more.

I am really enjoying your WM list. I am interested to see where the biggest egos will find themselves in the top 10. Not to change the subject, but the grapevine has it that Kizarny is going to the circus... really his is. Does this mean we don't have to quake at the thought that he might actually make another appearance? Woohoo. Also, have you heard anything on Mr. Kennedy? He said in a PPV live blog that he would be back in late February. Just curious what the latest is on him. Keep up the great work.

I've got him top 5 Kevin .

Wow. THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR. I still remember the energy he brought every time the music hit.
Really a shame in a way. If this guy wasn't such a headcase, he could easily have been one of the all-time greats. There was a time when he WAS the biggest star in the company.
Maybe one day he'll kiss and make up with Vince and get inducted into the hall of fame.
Thanks for the memories Jim, I mean Warrior.
Kevin, do you think the Warrior deserves a spot in the WWE HOF?
RESPONSE FROM KE: Absolutely.

Sorry Kevin, but that is an atrocious choice.
Ultimate Warrior makes Kozlov seem like the Undertaker by comparison.

Yeah, I'm one of those who would rate the Ultimate Warriow below the likes of Cena or Edge. If we're going by the number of main event or title matches, then Cena is ahead. If we're going by the number of memorable moments, then Edge is ahead. I feel Warrior is more akin to the likes of Ted DiBiase or Andre the Giant, i.e. largely memorable for just one particular match or mania while guys like Cena, Edge, Hogan, HBK, Undertaker, etc. are known for multiple matches across multiple manias.

What a great character. To me he was always entertaining. Those nonsensical rants were some of the most compelling monologues of madness I've ever seen. Sure he wasn't the greatest in-ring performer, but I think he came up with solid performances when it mattered. Plus, he squashed Triple H. What's not to love about that.
Great blog. Thanks Kevin.

No way Warrior gets into the WWE HOF. Vince would never take the chance of giving him an open forum to speak.
RESPONSE FROM KE: The question wasn't "will he" but "should he."

As far as I know Vince and Ultimate Warrior have huge differences between them (correct me if I'm worng) . And I don't think Vince will induct Ultimate Warrior in his lifetime. And if Vince decides to never induct Ultimate Warrior, I won't be complaining for sure.
As far as ranking goes, I guess this is the correct place for Ultimate Warrior.

My dad drove me from Maryland to Toronto for that match when I was 14. I remember the crowd being about 60% - 40% for Hogan. It was extremely loud in the Skydome for the main event and I'll never forget the gasp that came from the crowd when Hogan missed his leg drop and the Warrior splashed him and got the win. Everyone was stunned. I was such a huge Hogan fan (not anymore) and I was thinking that I watched all of his wins and the first time I see him live he loses. As we left the Skydome I remember a lot of people saying that we had seen Hogan's last match, that he was retiring. Boy were they wrong.
Even though he wasn't the best worker (Rude carried him in WM5) and even though he kept not honoring contracts and threatened to no show a main event, I am glad to see him ranked high.

I think people are forgetting that Eck laid out four criteria, it wasn't just about the number of world title matches. Love him or loathe him, Warrior's matches with Hogan and Savage are far bigger and more memorable than anything Cena has done at Mania to this point.

For anyone who ever complains about Cena being a bad worker: watch an Ultimate Warrior match. You'll suddenly gain a ton of perspective.

Kev - didn't you think it was a little odd for the WWE to have a DVD called the Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior - completely trash him in the documentary portion of the dvd - then include the best matches of his career ? There was a match of him against Andre the Giant where he cleanly bodyslams him, without as much struggle as Hogan had. The matches included are pretty exciting and he had one of the best ring entrances ever, they always got the crowd pumped up like no other!

So, we were 2 off on the Warrior.
My #11 is Chris Jericho. Jericho has argubly stole the show at 5 WM's.

that's the worst picture of warrior that i have ever seen
