A hot start and even hotter finish to Raw
As I watched Chris Jericho mercilessly pound on Ric Flair’s bloody head while the incensed crowd showered him with boos and derisive chants, I thought to myself how nothing else on the show could possibly top this opening segment of Raw Monday night.
As heated as the angle was, however, Randy Orton’s sadistic attack on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at the end of the show raised the bar even higher.
Triple H had gained the advantage the past couple weeks in his ferocious game of one-upmanship with Orton, and it seemed as if Orton was losing some of his heat because of it. But he got it all back and then some on Monday when he incapacitated Triple H (with the aid of Ted DiBiase Jr., Cody Rhodes and a pair of handcuffs) and then forced him to watch as he delivered a DDT to Stephanie.
Orton’s performance was off-the-charts brilliant. His facial expressions, deliberate manner and body language – the menacing way he stalked his prey reminded me of the legendary Killer Kowalski – made the violence that he perpetrated that much more intense.
Orton dropping down to his knees, hovering over an unconscious Stephanie and then kissing her while looking over at Triple H was a nice touch. That very personal violation was more effective at stirring emotions and making fans want to see these guys fight than any kicks to head or blows from a sledgehammer.
As for Jericho’s assault on Flair, it was very well done, and Jericho – like Orton – is a tremendous heel. But, in all honesty, the angle didn’t succeed in making me excited about Jericho’s handicap match against Roddy Piper, Jimmy Snuka and Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania.
Other thoughts on Monday night’s show:
The two aforementioned attacks both went on for quite a while, which is partly why they were so effective, but the fact that no one came out to make the save put my suspension of disbelief to the test. I’ll give WWE a pass on no one helping Triple H, because he basically only has one friend – Shawn Michaels – and he wasn’t there. But no one coming to Flair’s aid was pretty ridiculous. …
If Jerry Lawler was so mad at Jericho for beating up Flair, why didn’t he do something about it when he had the chance? I mean, most of the beat-down occurred right in front of him. Next week’s Jericho-Lawler match should be interesting. …
It was nice to see someone outsmart The Cerebral Assassin for a change. …
After seeing the heat that Orton and Jericho got, I felt bad for Edge – another great heel – for having to be involved in such a silly story line for WrestleMania. …
That poem read by John Cena was just one notch above a Dirt Sheet segment as far as lame comedy goes. Michael Cole and Lawler couldn’t even manage semi-believable fake laughs. ...
It was just a matter of time until Vickie Guerrero was back in the wheelchair. I think it’s great how she stands up whenever it’s convenient and then sits back down in the chair and gets wheeled around. …
The Michaels promo in the graveyard -- complete with spooky music that sounded like something you would hear in a Universal horror movie in the 1930s -- was good even if it was a little hokey. Then again, The Undertaker’s character has always been hokey – except, of course, when he was the “American Badass.” …
Speaking of which, I’m thrilled that I’ll get to see Kid Rock performing live at WrestleMania in Houston. …
The eight-man tag between the Money in the Bank ladder match competitors was fine. With five babyfaces and three heels, however, Finlay was put on the heel side and I don’t think it was ever mentioned in commentary that he was teaming with guys that he didn’t like. …
The Jeff Hardy-Dolph Ziggler extreme rules match was an entertaining squash. Ziggler is being wasted as a jobber to the stars. As I have said before, I think he could make an impact on ECW. …
JBL gets kudos for getting in a Don Leo Jonathan reference. Younger fans probably have no idea who he is, but I remember “The Mormon Giant” challenging Bruno Sammartino for the WWWF title when I was about 7 years old. As far as wrestling ability, Jonathan is perhaps the best big man that I have ever seen. Plus, he had awesome mutton chops. …
Kowalski, Jonathan and Sammartino all mentioned in this post. Man, I’m old.

Jericho vs Lawler next week is a good idea, its not mania worthy but it will work well in the buildup.

an entertaining raw to say the least why didnt lawler at least make some attempt to make the save, i was delighted to see orton get the better of HHH, I hope he takes the title from him, that leads me to cena show and edge they will obviously keep a world title on each show therefore if Orton wins you can be sure Cena wont, therefore ill make a swerve HHH and Cena win. A couple of good spots in the MITB 8 tag hopefully the afore mentioned will have some extreme spots for me christian or benjamin or the only two who i can see winning it! Michaels promo was stupid, the script probably wasnt too bad but he had to do it from the Stage of the back or even in takers face.

Kev,longtime reader, first time commenting.First, how do you think Cody Rhodes gets under the ring w/o audience seeing him?
What happens when Raw goes off air as far as Trips getting out of the cuffs & Steph leaving the ring?Where were those people when the beatdown was going on?
I am a longtime fan of wrestling.I used to go to the Civic Center w/my grandfather EVERY month. I was there when Bruno lost to Superstar.(knew something was up when I saw a camera there.)Also was backstage when Bruno had his return cage match w/Stan Hansen after "breaking" his neck.Man,I'm old too.(45).Keep up the great work!
Lemme know more about the bus trip.Do you think it will be "safe" for me to bring my 7 year old son?
Thanks,
Greg/Pikesville

Speaking of lame set ups, didn't Edge have a WrestleMania match against Booker T over a Japanese hair shampoo commercial deal?
RESPONSE FROM KE: Yep. That has to be one of the silliest ever.

Hey Kevin,
Did you actually notice the considerably loud RKO chants when Orton wasruthlessly playing around with HHH and Steph?!!?
After he got out of the ring, I even heard a few fans shout "Good job Orton!".
I have to admit, this is funny. Seals the fact that HHH needs to step down at WM 25 and hand the future over to Orton, and never come back for the title again. Pretty much the same way HHH put over Batista after WM21, 3 ppvs 3 wins for batista. I hope HHH gives Orton the same opportunity.
I mean we're having a Rock/Austin situation here, Orton's such a psychotic heel and people chant for him at the end of a man+wife beatdown! Its amazing!
I mean even HHH as a heel was totally booed out. Orton gets significant RKO chants even when what he does on screen now is much more violent and psychotic than what HHH has ever done as a heel :D

Terrible RAW. Rule of thumb, you don't have two boring, overlong face beatdowns in one show. Jericho beating down Flair to open the show was pointless. The whole Lawler thing was insanely stupid as well...why wouldn't he help Flair when he was right in front of the action? The Shawn Michaels promo was borderline comedic. If history is any indication, the match will be Match of the Year, they don't have to try so hard with the buildup. Dolph Ziggler should not be wrestling on a main show at this point.
Oddly enough, one of the few things I liked is the Big Show/Edge storyline. I find Vickie Guerrero to be more entertaining than ever in this storyline and Cena's role as the comedic third man is strong. Orton's intensity in the final segment was good as well, but it's been done before and lasted too long.
A mail-in show, which is a shame because the last few RAWs were quite effective in building up WrestleMania 25.
Posted by: Ryan | March 24, 2009 8:25 AM
As for Jericho’s assault on Flair, it was very well done
And yet somehow... it fell a little short. The fans just didn't seem into it... maybe they were caught off guard, certainly that's not the way anyone expected Raw to open last night. My wife was actually a little disturbed by the whole thing and maybe that's what the fans at the arena were feeling. People just seemed more shocked than outraged.
If that's the response they were looking for then the attack was a huge success.
Also, I wish I could read lips. Towards the end Rick says something to Jericho, giving him direction, I assume. This was right before Jericho threw Rick into one of the steps by the ring post.

It was an entertaining RAW. Although I did not like how indestructable Trips was. Legacy beat on him a dozen times and he wouldn't stay down. I understand that he had to be conscience to watch Steph get DDTed but he could've shown some weakness. Jericho is the best. Just wish he had a better opponent. You're right about Ziggler. He has skills. He should've been in the MITB match instead of the geriatric Finley.

"Kowalski , Jonathan , and Sammartino all mentioned in this post .Man , I'm old ."
Yes you are Kevin . Be proud . A whole generation knows only what they read of them . We experienced them !

Randy Orton's facial expressions are getting scarier by the day and it's becoming hard to tell whether it's still an angle or it's now for real(guess that makes it a brilliant piece of acting). Hope WM25 isn't going to be an anti-climax to this angle....
Posted by: jigga | March 24, 2009 9:23 AM
Kevin - first of all man, I love this column in my newspaper......also, is Orton one bad mo-fo or what? He is a superb villian....I agree, the Cena-Show-Edge thing is all comedy.....and who is this Johathan guy you mention?.....I'm also a geezer and do not remember him....maybe I need to see his picture.

Concerning the Flair " beat down " all I have to say is " Why Ric Why ? How many more times do we have to you as a beaten bloody mess. A legend, Chris is right Flair has become a JOKE a BLOODY JOKE! It's old and now it has become DISGUSTING. As for Orton and HHH that segment was over done and to bad Steph wasn't wearing pumps. She'd look real hottt KO'ed in the ring with one pump on and one pump off. WOOOOO
Posted by: Ric in Baltimore | March 24, 2009 9:35 AM
hey kev, insightful post as always.
Im just wondering, why does Stephanie sell moves so much better then either her brother or her father?
Posted by: The blob | March 24, 2009 9:49 AM
I really don't like the angle they are taking between HHH and Orton. Maybe it's the continuous womanizing or the over the top violence. I guess my point is WWE has taken the story to level beyond what's needed. It's become one of an enraged man terrorizing someone's wife, smashing her face into the ground and then kissing her. Just brutal.
It's just something that shouldn't be in wrestling. Let them hate each other and tear one another apart but enough with the constant woman beating. Stories like this happen in real life, woman are often abused. If someone smashed my wife's face into the ground I doubt I'd be wanting to challenge him to a wrestling match.
Just my two cents. WWE needs to scale back with this one. Way over the top.

I fell asleep on Raw before the last segment but that did'nt mean it wasn't a well done show. It may have been just a little predictable in the grand scheme. If you have watched wrestling as long as I have, there is a certian "science" that has to happen concerning major buildups. So veteran fans mostly look at the level of performances and the wrestlers workrate. So overall what I saw was a good lead to Mania - not the greatest - just good.
Kev I do agree that Ziggler could be used better also.

Hey Kev - Are you going to be in attendance at Wrestlemania this year? I'm making the trip and couldn't be more excited to see the Granddaddy of 'em All.
RESPONSE FROM KE: I'll be there.

Hey Kevin thats the 2nd time finlay was on the heel side on SD he was teamed with sheltons team in the tag match so maybe he is turning heel the ladder at the end was a good touch.
Posted by: bill | March 24, 2009 11:01 AM
what's up kevin I thought the jericho beat down of flair was fantasic the crowd seem to hate jericho even more
with all the boos he got. and is it me
I thought stephaine looked great last night. I think her and orton would make a great on screen couple
Posted by: STEVE | March 24, 2009 11:09 AM
Kevin, we're in agreement on the Orton/HHH angle. I have never been an Orton fan, but he's done some outstanding work in his current heel run. When he first got up after DDTing Stephanie and had the string of saliva hanging off his mouth, that was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen on a wrestling show.
Regarding suspension of disbelief, I found it even harder to believe that no one came to Stephanie's aid. If we're supposed to be thinking of her as HHH's wife and the mother of his children, the guys in the back would have to be pretty callous to leave her at the mercy of a monster like Orton. Wouldn't you think that a babyface like Rey or Kofi or Punk would run in? Even if we're supposed to think of her as an authority figure, no one realizes that it's in their best interests to come to her aid? I guess everyone went home for the evening after their matches were over. Still, great angle.
Posted by: Kevin M B | March 24, 2009 11:28 AM
Despite the great build up by Jericho, Im still not interested in his match at mania. Im still hoping that somehow Austin would get invovled but who knows. Hbk's promos are starting to make me think maybe the streak is going to end. Once again Orton proved why he is the best heel today. I cant wait to go to houston next wk.
Posted by: jason | March 24, 2009 11:35 AM
Kev, I never understood:
Why is it okay for Steamboat, Snuka, and Piper to come out of retirement but you're so agaisnt Flair coming back?
He's getting beaten in the middle of the ring he might as well get some payback...
-Ryan Roi
RESPONSE FROM KE: Because Steamboat, Snuka and Piper never got a fantastic perfect sendoff the way Flair did in what was supposed to be his final match. Coming back would take away from that moment.
Posted by: Ryan Roi | March 24, 2009 11:41 AM
Orton segment was great. Comparisons with Kowalski appropriate! Steph was at her best laying there prone on her back in the ring (wink wink)!
Yeah, why did Lawler just stand there and tell us afterward how pissed off he was at Jericho? The stereotyped writing and mood of Raw of late has really put a damper on 'the King's edge. HE should have intervened. Wuss!
I like the Undertaker's promos. Sure beats his long drawn out entrance that I guess everyone expects to see.
Santino's match with Micki James was an entertaining piece of comedy.
Posted by: AMC | March 24, 2009 11:52 AM
Someone needs to tell WWE creative that their humour is rubbish. Poor old John Cena, who I presume has his own sense of humour is being made to pass off their rubbish scripts which just makes him look like he has the imagination of a child.
My thoughts match yours when it comes to Flair's beatdown, it would have been much more effective if someone, anyone had tried to help him, be it Lawler or someone from the back, even if Jericho gave them a slapping as well it would have been slightly more believable.
The feud between Triple H and Orton is getting interesting, I was wondering last night how they were going to finish it off, I just can't seem to pick a logical winner at WM. It seems as though now would be a good time for Orton to start a good title reign but then are they really going to let Triple H drop the belt after it is really him defending his family's honour and whatnot? Should be a good watch at least.

This was probably the Best raw in quite sometime it has been months since i believe i sat through an entire Raw. + Randy orton has cut probably the Promo ever last night he doesn't have Edge's range yet but he's getting there jericho Flair segment is great as you know know that that the ref is gonna get knocked down and Flair is gonna play a huge role in the match i only wish that they would make it a six man tag let the other 2 members of legacy join him for night only to make it a more interesting jeff hardy match was good but Dolph took the twist of fates horrible he made them look like neckbreakers. i thinkSantino is starting to lose his appeal to me atleast the match had some fun spots but overall his comedy is getting stale and what is going on with regal he was built up a few months ago now he can't even come out to the ring in his own music and gets wiped of the mat by rey they could ghave made that match a lot more competitive. didn't really like the Edge/Show match as it sort of showed who Vickie is tipping her hand 2 other than that I wish to make things slightly better i wish Orton would have kissed stephanie either a litte longer or gave her multiple kisses and that he would have carried her away as raw went of and smacked her on her behind just to show his superiority over the game. also love the Micheals in the graveyard segment i just hope taker can add him to list i think this is 1 streak that shopuldn't come to an end lastly did stephanie either get her breast reduced or her implants taken out because she is noticably smaller up there atleast to me
Posted by: frank | March 24, 2009 1:32 PM
Hokey? Way to call that one wrong. Yea, you kind of disrespected one of the most famous gimmicks (The Deadman) the WWE has ever had so I am going to have to add what's completely missing from your article in regards to The Undertaker:
Don't disrespect one of the best gimmicks the WWE has ever head. The 'deadman' gimmick is what brought The Undertaker to the top; not the Bad Ass gimmick. There's a reason why the 'deadman' gimmick was so successful and lasted so long. The 'American Bad Ass' gimmick was crap and unoringal. How many bikers has WWE had anyway?
HBK being out in the graveyard was brilliant. I like how he's been giving the Deadman a dose of his own medicine as of late; first there was that video and now this. It struck a nerve with The Undertaker. He was livid.
Notice how Lawler said 'will we see the same Undertaker at WrestleMania?' A lot of fans have actually been hoping for the deadman to revert back to one of his former deadman personas; Old Western, puprle, lord of darkness, or ministry, or a whole new one altogether. He's had the current one since 04' so it's definitely time for a change (and I'm not talking about crappy Biker gimmick). What a better place to do it than at a place where he's most famous for, WrestleMania.
That brings me to my next point. The match between Taker and HBK is obviously going to be a classic match that we're all going to remember for years to come so I wish people would quit fussing over the final 3 seconds and who's going to win. What about the whole match itself and how well they perform. That's what's going to be memorable. I'm more concerned with who outperforms the other. That will be the true winner in my book. If you look at their match ten years ago, no one cared about who got the last pinfall but the excitement of the match; the blood, the chairs, on the cell, it was amazing.
I also loved the way the Deadman sort of addressed HBK never losing to him with how he took HBK out of action after the Rumble. Great response there from the Deadman. I think what the WWE should do next if they want to get rid of the current Deadman is lying him to rest somehow. They have to get HBK to really get rid of the current Deadman, because all of the rest had to be buried alive in order to be destroyed.
RESPONSE FROM KE: Just to be clear: I have tremendous respect for The Undertaker. He does have one of the all-time great gimmicks, but the supernatural stuff does make it a little hokey. My favorite Undertaker persona was The Ministry of Darkness. From what I remember, it was less supernatural and more Satanic.
Posted by: Tony Llewellyn | March 24, 2009 1:44 PM
Now that I've cleared up the mishap in your article regarding to the Undertaker, I'll comment on some of the other stuff;
Randy Orton / Triple H : Excellent excellent! Is the drama fueling in that feud or what? The kiss is what might have sealed Orton's fate. I'm surprised HHH and Stephanie even went for that. You can imagine HHH's character is prepared to literally murder Randy Orton. Man, I have never seen HHH that livid in all of his career. Not only DDTing her in front of her husband, but the kiss. Dang! That had to have been the last straw for Orton's character. Also, was it just me or was Stephanie super super super fine yesterday. LoL! Who would expect someone to come to the ring looking that hot at a time like that? Look like Stephanie had a makeover or something. She might have just made every diva on the WWE roster look like Mae Young. lol! Randy Orton wasn't looking bad himself upon his entrance.
Now to my complaints about the WWE. They really need to have things make sense in terms of the matches and the formidability of their athletes. I mean it's ridiculous. For example, it hasn't even been a month since Kozlov defeated 'Deadman' Undertaker clean. I don't think people understand how impressive that victory was. Very few wrestlers defeat 'deadman' Undertaker clean? Only superstars to have done that are Kurt Angle and Stone Cold Steve Austin as a matter of fact. Now with all that said, you then have Kozlov basically getting squashed by HHH this past Friday night on SmackDown. Errr... wtf! HHH didn't even make it a hard fought win. Come on! Look at some of the past matches here and the history because ultimately they don't just make Kozlov look bad, they look other wrestlers look bad. Not that I think Kozlov deserves any type of a push, but if they're going to have him undefeated for a year, give HBK a major run for his money, and even defeat Taker clean, HHH better have the hardest time in the world trying to beat him but that didn't happen.
As another of this is William Regal jobbing to Rey Mysterio. Ok, not only does this not make sense just by looking at these two individuals and the size differences, but come on. Regal is a roughhouse brawler as he's proven on many occasion with different athletes. He just got out of a rough feud with one of the best strikers in the business, CM Punk even. A person who can hang with a formidable athlete like CM Punk shouldn't be jobbing at all. I was actually comparing Regal's skills ot JBL's because I thought they were both stiff wrestlers, but WWE went ahead and ruined that. They made Regal look to week. That was retarded. Not only that, but they need to have things with Mysterio be more believable. You want to talk about hokey, talk about Mysterio defeating squashing guys like Kane and Regal.
Also, I agree! What are they doing with Dolph Ziggler? Dolph should just leave and go somewhere where his talents won't be wasted. It's ridiculous. The guy has great energy and enthusiasm in the ring. He's totally impressed me. He's spunky and entertaining. I am sick of this condescending treatment and screw putting him on ECW. He entertains me a lot more than Kozlov does. If Kozlov can be pushed with his lack of talents, no reason why Dolph can't. I love Dolph Ziggler. Albeit, the introducing himself is getting old and he needs to change his gimmick, but he's great in the ring and overall.
Totally disagreed with you on the Edge/Show/Cena angle. I thought that promo on Friday night was pretty hilarious and I think it's all pretty funny.
Right now, my complaints for WWE are solely how they need to make things make sense in terms of formidability of matches and certain athletes; it's like you can have a wrestler dominate a really tough athlete and have a long good feud with one athlete and return a couple weeks later and get his butt kicked and squashed just because they're trying to push someone or whatever. That has always been a complaint of mine.
Posted by: Tonetare | March 24, 2009 2:03 PM
This was one of the better shows in recent memory. Still, it would have taken 4 or 5 shows like this to make a pretty weak on paper WM card seem good. Orton and Jericho showed why they're the best two heels in the business right now. I'm pretty certain Jericho will be jobbing and embarassed royally, but if they're any justice at all Orton should be going over cleanly. I'm not holding out for justice though. The third best currently is stuck in an inane feud that would have been perfect for Fully Loaded. To make matters worse, Cena reverted back to the cornball (un)humor that caused a good portion of the fanbase to turn against him the first time, when the match desperately needed a money promo to sell it. HBK in the graveyard was corny and straight out of a cheap 80's video, but it was effective for the purpose at hand. There's no way he's winning, but no one has been put over this strongly heading into a Mania match with Taker since Kane the first time. The Hardys will probably blow the roof off the place with extreme rules, but this match has been relegated to midcard filler as I expected, one of the many reasons I wasn't crazy about the possibility of this feud when the seeds were planted 4 months ago.

Maybe the surprise with JBL is he retires the IC belt, or is named Raw GM... or both???
What happens to Jericho after he loses at WM and we all know he will lose??
What happened to the Great Khali?? Been off TV for while and his bodyslam match against Big Show here in Columbia SC was changed with Show being in a tag team and no Khali...

OK--- After the MASSIVE beatdown endured by Flair at the beginning of the show I admit I'm interested in seeing this play out.
Like you, I kept expecting Lawler to dump the headset and jump on Jericho and have NO IDEA why he waited until the end of the show to call him out--(???). Seems like this would be done immediatly after the match.
I agree with you about Edge too. This whole storyline REEKS. He has gone from one of the finest heels in history to a complete joke. Why WWE Creative thinks anyone is even remotely interested in this mess is beyond me. I can only hope Christian is tapped to win the MITB and challenge Edge for the title (should he keep it after this Cluster of a match)

2 things Kevin wanted to ask you bout the upcoming Wrestlemania - 1) What match do you expect to be the highlight of the card, the one you are looking most forward to? 2) Is the 54.95 for the pay-per-view the standard across the country? Seems a little high
RESPONSE FROM KE: I'm looking forward to three: Taker-HBK, Orton-HHH and Hardy-Hardy.
Posted by: James | March 24, 2009 2:49 PM
Great oost as usual Kevin! I had the same thoughts about Lawler just standing close to Jericho while he was beating up Flair and not trying to intervene. If a Jericho / Lawler match was scheduled for next week, why not have Lawler try to stop Jericho's attack and getting punched in the face? This would have been a lot more logical. Anyway, Jericho is so good on the mic that now, I actually want to see him face the senior citizens at Mania (too bad it will end up with Jericho being humiliated...)
I loved the Cody "Hornswoggle" Rhodes moment, and all that followed, except that, like Bad News said, HHH should not look so undestructible. He even recovered quickly enough from the sledgehammer hit....
Nothing about Santino? "I am man enough to be Miss Wrestlemania", and "Why should I not be included? Because of my genitalia? That's sexual discrimination." Genius. And what a match.
Posted by: Axl | March 24, 2009 3:13 PM
What a cluster this Mania is going to be.
The Flair beating was well done. It had the signature blade job, but it did redeem itself when Jerico took the shoes off and literally ripped the shirt off his back. If you take that out, we've seen that beatdown a 100 times on Flair. All Lawler had to do was argue with someone on the headset about whether he could intervene. It took away from the whole thing that he just stood back while Flair was helpless at his feet.
None of the comedy in the show was all that funny. The Cena stuff was way flat.
Then the beating at the end, it was so well done. The expressions and Steph actually taking that DDT head on made it very real. The way HHH was allowed to just get his fingertips on Orton after the kiss were a nice touch. I can't remember if it was Cena or someone else who started unscrewing the turbuckle when they were cuffed. I'd think Trips would've seen how to escape when he was going through footage and got the idea to invade someone's house during pre-taped satellite interviews, but oh well.

WOW! I'm now officially excited to see HHH vs. Orton. You kind of had a feeling it was going to be something good just by the way Orton and DiBiase were walking toward the ring, they just gave you a feeling. Orton's facial expressions are always great but DiBiase kind of had a worried look on his face like"Are we really gonna go thru with this boss?" The only thing I would have changed would have been to have at least a few minutes of an actual match, just to see what DiBiase had aganist HHH.They could have had Ted Jr. and HHH start out and Orton keep refusing to tag, then HHH get's fed up, go's under the ring for the sledgehammer and then Cody blindsides him.But who am I to mess with perfection.HHH probablly would have just squashed him like he did Rhodes last week.
I enjoy these Extreme Rules matches with Jeff Hardy, but they are doing nothing to further the Hardy's storyline.Where's Matt ?
The Flair beatdown was great.I thought smashing the watch was a nice touch. They could have played it up a little more that ,that was the watch that HBK gave to him.But the whole time the beating was going on and Lawler is yelling for Jericho to stop,I was yelling at the TV "Well if you don't like it step in there, and do something about it."To challenge him an hour and a half later seemed silly.
All in all great RAW and as always Eck, great post.
Bye the bye, how many WrestleMania's have you attended?
Posted by: Andre the Midget | March 24, 2009 4:38 PM
Regarding Flair:
Are you still considered retired if you: 1) cut a featured in-ring promo with an active wrestler 2) take a rediculous beating at ringside all the while attempting to fight back and 3) get juice? That sounds like someone who doesn't know what retirement is exactly. Please Ric, don't further tarnish your legacy and grand sendoff.
Also wondered why as admired and respected Flair is in the locker room why no one came to his aid, especially as it continued to drag on.
Are the WWE TV programs no longer rated PG - especially in the first segment?
Posted by: Bradley | March 24, 2009 4:57 PM
In regard to Kozlov, the unfortunate truth is that he did not make the most of the huge opportunity which WWE gave to him. He seems to have a chronic problem of mistiming movements, i.e. leaving halfway over the top rope before his opponent has delivered the clothesline. My take on his recent jobbing is that WWE has simply lost patience with his lack of polish.

Raw was sweet.

Kev,
Spot on for your Raw review. Orton got his mojo back. That was vintage Monday Night Jericho! Agree totally with your Edge sympathy. Liked the Don Leo Jonathan reference (he scared me back then), and finally, you heard it here first. Flair helps Jericho at WM and returns to the "dirtiest player in the game." Starts accompaning Jericho each week to the ring.

What is this, the 3rd week in a row that Christian and Edge have been on the same Raw and they haven't done anything on camera at all? Throw in last week's Smackdown and that's 4 shows in the last 3 weeks. Does anyone else notice that Dolph Ziggler is the only Spirit Squad member left on the main roster? He was getting a bigger push then. I found it funny with the whole Chavo situation last night during the Edge-Show match. Is he ever going to get a push? It seemed like they were pushing for a 4 way with Chavo, MVP, Shelton and R-Truth for the US title but they went ahead with MVP winning it in a singles match. I wish Santino would have won the match last night and went on to become Ms. Wrestlemania. Even though he lost, it was an entertaining match.

Triple H has shane and vince right? I was looking for them to come in with a key or something for the handcuffs and the three of them take down legacy after Orton took out stephinie. but this worked out too.

I have a funny feeling Stephanie is going to turn on Triple H at WM 25 and that she and Orton planned it all along.

I found the beatdown of Ric Flair to be very distasteful. Ric should have more respect for himself than to agree to be a participant in something like what happened on Monday night.

Come to think of it if they do pair Stephanie and Orton look for Orton to claim that Stephanie's newest child belongs to him and for kayfabe DNA tests to confirm it.

Hey Kevin, wouldnt you say that at this point Randy HAS to win at Wrestlemania because if he loses how can he possibly not get "fired"?

I say this because if he's constantly attacking authority figures (The McMahons no less) he has no choice but to win because there's no logical way to keep around otherwise.

I read on another site that Flair's cut was not the result of blading. Whether or not it was intentional, it looks like he did it the hard way.

Kev , with your mention of some old-timers I'll add "Little Beaver" simply because I get a chuckle in reading his name.

Ric in Baltimore is right (March 24, 9:35am).
Flair continues to de-value that amazing retirement ceremony everytime he comes out and gets destroyed. Cant he just walk away period? So sad...
My prediction - Kane wins MITB.

Raw was pretty good to say the least.
I liked Cena's storytelling time with his little fans on Monday. They must really love Cena now, considering that he read them a bed time story and all. Lmao.
The Santino and Mickie angle was funny and cute. I liked his questioning of why he couldn't be Ms. Wrestlemania.
The Jericho angle was pretty good, but the beat down could have been btter. I think Flair could have sold better and King could have jumped in to help out at least and then stood over a prone Jericho and challenged him to a match next week.
The Jeff match was short but SWEET. I loved how they got the crowd going.
The angle at the end of the night was great. Orton is great, because after what he did to Steph I was literally pissed and I actually cried. The set-up was a stroke of genius. The way he lured SEXY Steph out was awesome. DAMN, that woman is a MILF for real. She ages beautifully. HHH is indeed lucky, he better not mess it up. Anyway, I loved how Steph took that DDT like a pro. She sells better than Shane and Vince put together. Hell, she sells better than some wrestlers. The woman is talented; love her or hate her, she is underrated. Orton is impressive and sexy. I love Steph and Orton's chemistry. Randy;s calculating and fearless ways, along with Steph's calculating and fearless ways would make them a great on-screen duo that's for sure. They would be great together. They would make the McMahon-Helmsley era look like a bed time story for kids. They both have those great expressions that sells everything they do with brilliance. This was my favorite part of Raw. This is sure and prayful to be a great match. I hope we get a good twist and not a WORTHLESS Shane twist. Give us Steph or Vince.
I noticed that Raw had a lot of TV-14 going on last night. Then I read yesterday that Vince is making Raw TV-14 again and he is keeping SD and ECW PG. I don't watch SD or ECW, so I am happy with the change for Raw. =-D
Great Raw
