A new twist to J. Hardy’s fate on Smackdown
After suffering clean losses to WWE champion Triple H on the past two pay-per-views, Jeff Hardy had about as much momentum as The Great Khali running uphill. And with the focus on Smackdown turning to Triple H versus Kozlov, Hardy seemed to be sliding back to his former role of being the company’s most popular mid-carder.
Rather than taking his near misses at the title in stride, however, Hardy came out swinging last night on Smackdown. His frustration boiling over, Hardy wielded a chair to show that he wasn’t taking a backseat to anyone in his ongoing quest for the title. A desperate Hardy willing to use extreme measures to get what he wants adds a new layer to his character and is a logical progression of his story line.
His chair-shot hit list last night consisted of The Undertaker, Vladimir Kozlov, John Morrison and The Miz. Triple H, who was teaming with Hardy against Morrison and Miz, stared at Hardy after the attack with a look that conveyed both surprise and concern.
What makes the angle more intriguing is that Hardy went after The Undertaker as well as the heels. The way he snapped, clobbered The Undertaker and then ran away almost made it seem as if Hardy was turning heel. That would be a huge mistake, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.
It was announced that Hardy and Undertaker will be wrestling in an extreme rules match next week, and if it comes anywhere close to their ladder matches from six years ago, it should be something to see.
Other thoughts on last night’s show:
The longer I watched the Kozlov-Undertaker match, the more I thought it wasn’t the greatest idea to have them wrestle each other at this point. What has made Kozlov special is that he has rarely shown vulnerability, and two weeks before his title shot against Triple H at the Survivor Series pay-per-view is not the time for him to do a significant amount of selling for an opponent.
Because of Triple H’s size, in-ring style and proven track record, it’s difficult to depict him as the underdog heading into a match, but WWE was pulling it off. Before last night, Kozlov had looked unstoppable, which is what made his upcoming match with Triple H compelling. …
R-Truth doing two clean jobs in a row to Shelton Benjamin has me scratching my head. The fans are behind R-Truth, so why cut him off at the knees? At least have Benjamin cheat to get the victory. …
The time was right to reveal that there are two Bellas. The angle of the announcers and Brie Bella’s opponents not being able to figure it out when it was so obvious had gone about as far as it could go. …
I’m actually looking forward to the Michelle McCool-Maria divas title match next week. I think McCool will be much more effective as a heel, assuming she does turn. …
Sure, the Khali Kiss Kam segments are getting a little old, but Khali’s reactions and facial expressions are hilarious. If WWE really wants to get Khali over as a babyface, however, it should have him chokeslam the incredibly annoying Ranjin Singh. …
I wonder what’s more disgusting: The Boogeyman spitting live worms in your mouth, or kissing the women in the Kiss Kam segments?

It seems to me that WWE needs to send jeff hardy to ECW; he seems lost in the WWE ... Also, MVP seems more like a jobber, regard-
less of what he claims he is paid. He reminds me of johnny rodz. A lot of talk, and no wins.

Kevin -
Did you purchase and were you going to do a review on the new WWE Hell in a Cell DVD?
I don't know if the following wrestlers were in the WWF at the same time or not, but if the Hell in a Cell match had been around in the early and mid 80's, I think these guys could have had great programs and set the bar just as high as Michaels/Undertaker:
Superfly Snuka (face) vs. Randy Savage. Both were very agile and intense and neither were afraid to get juice. There's no telling what they could have come up with together inside the Cell.
and/or
Sgt. Slaughter (face) vs. Big John Studd. Again, fierce competitors and both could move pretty well for being large men. Slaughter was very popular and if Bobby Heenan managed Studd and could somehow get involved in the Cell match, if would have been fantastic.
I think either of these would have drawn big. (Plus it's fun to pretend to book a roster of past era wrestlers). Any thoughts?
Thanks.
RESPONSE FROM KEVIN ECK: I don't have the DVD. As far as your matchups, I was never a big fan of Studd. Slaughter was very agile for a big guy.

I am pleasantly surprised that Jeff Hardy is still being kept front and center on SmackDown. Do you get the feeling we may be seeing a triple threat title match at Survivor Series?
Even though there is no verbal abuse directed their way, I still feel like the fat women being chosen for these kiss cam segments are basically the butt of the joke. But since they seem mostly happy to be in the ring getting kissed, I suppose there's no real harm (other than the shots of MVP's disgust they kept panning to, which I'm sad to say I found amusing).

One of the best SD's in a while. If Hardy does turn heel I think we'll see the WWE belt round his waist within the next 2-4 PPV's. Although it has been something WWE have struggled to really nail with anyone they put in the role, I think Hardy could possibly make a good tweener type character. I definitely liked what I saw from him on Friday, and it's good to see WWE doing something pro-active about his somewhat generic character.

All of the WWE storylines have me confused, even the Jericho title win...what the heck is going on...I'm really losing interest.

I am one fan not behind R-Truth, but you already know that from my previous comments.

Jericho winning the belt is setting up for Cena to win the belt back at survivor series in his hometown. This is a joke! why does he get a title shot after being out however many months? There are guys working their butts off to get a shot and they just hand it to cena. His whole image is old and its only the little teeny bops that like hime now...

I do struggle to comprehend some people's views on here......
Ric of Randallstown - MVP's losing streak is an angle....albeit one doing much to bury him. I would have thought with Kennedy and Umaga out, he would have been pushed more....however Hardy and Kozlov have been given major pushes. As much as I don't want Kozlov as champion, the time is right for Triple H to lose the title surely. Anyone agree? Presumably the Undertaker Big Show feud will come to an end after Survivor Series so it will be interesting to see the title picture at that point. Also with Edge returing at some point soon, makes it good viewing.
I will always be a Hardy mark, and really liked the direction on this episode. I agree that making him heel would be wrong, particularly at this stage. I don't think people would buy him as heel anyway.
I am getting bored of Benjamin vs R Truth....it seems to me they are fighting each other almost every week, and it really stretches credibility that R Truth wins in non title contest and Benjamin wins when title is on the line.....what would be so wrong in the title switching hands every now and then?
Seeing as Kendrick's singles push seems to have stopped, why not make him Ezekiel a tag team? Makes sense to me....the tag team division could always do with better performers and entertainers and I think that would suit.
Is anyone else annoyed that traditional Survivor Series matches just aren't the same anymore? With so many PPV now in the calendar, surely WWE have more traditional matches on the card and dispense with the title defences? They could further be used to enhance feuds or create new ones.

I like this new persona of Jeff Hardy.... he does it great.
Definetly fed up with them burying MVP, though it looks like they are going to turn it into some kind of a story. I said before on a previous comment that I think he has been punished too severely for what he has done. (rude to the drug test guy).. I think there must be more to it. I mean, really, what did he do? Have an affair with Stephanie or something?
I'm still a big wrestling fan, but it seems that the WWE has no real competition to bury, so they bury their own - MVP, kane, Matt Hardy has been lost now (not a fan of his move to ECW), Shelton Benjamin, Umaga etc, not to mention the Tag and Intercontinental titles. At least someone in the office seems to have woken up to at least part of this, so they are trying to fix it.
I'm happy that Shelton Benjamin can get a few victories finally (God knows it is overdue) but I think him winning clean over R truth is the wrong call. He should have won in a heel-ish way to set up a better story line for them both.

I also think that Hardy / Undertaker should be a PPV match storyline, not just thrown in on Smackdown - though of course I'm happy to watch a great match for free.

That's a good point.
Why does John Cena get an automatic title shot as soon as he comes back?
I guess the only answer is because WWE thinks he should.

Cena gets a title shot?
Why is everyone so annoyed at this?
he was working so hard throught rehab, came back early at the rumble only to have a few weeks before he has another injury.
he can wrestle just as good as any other main carder on any roster, people just think its kool to moan about how people are there for years bla bla bla
its all about money with wwe
not how many years you have been there
i think Cena is going to be a really good champ, and will put his own "spin" on the HW title

There are no tag team divisions on either show...what a WASTE!!!
Kendrick and Ezekiel would help the division, although I would rather see Kendrick as a singles star. Calito & Primo need someone to wrestle. Maybe the WWE will use two of the fat girls who kissed Kahli to wrestle for the tag titles.
MVP, R-Truth, The Gold Standard...sounds like a cool African-American faction to me.

I would take Boogeyman over kissing those women.

Cena's not the only wrestler that has returned from an absence to receive a title shot. Jericho got one against Randy Orton when he came back, and Triple H usually gets one when he gets back. Shawn Michaels got one against Randy Orton when he returned. IMO, it's unfair to be mad at Cena for that when it seems as if the WWE has a clause in its constitution that allows for returning main eventers to receive automatic title shots.
I'm frustrated at the mid-card hell they've placed MVP, R-Truth, Shelton Benjamin, The Brian Kendrick, and Ezekiel in. I have hope that MVP will either win a match or float over to RAW. It stinks to high heaven that R-Truth's character development has stalled, and that he wrestles Shelton Benjamin in the same match every week; it's very inexplicable at how R-Truth can only beat Benjamin when the title isn't on the line. And for some reason, The Brian Kendrick has a problem with Jimmy Wang Yang...what did he do?
