It’s all about Kozlov
Greetings from Indianapolis -- the city that Dick The Bruiser made famous -- where I’ll be watching the Ravens lay the smack down on the Colts tomorrow at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Speaking of Smackdown -- how’s that for a smooth segue? -- I thought last night’s show was pretty entertaining.
WWE continues to do a great job of getting Vladimir Kozlov over as a monster heel. His constant menacing facial expression and mauling style in the ring set him apart from everyone else.
Last night, Kozlov was all over the show, engaging in a stare-down with The Big Show and physically getting the better of Triple H and Jeff Hardy,
So far, he has almost exclusively wrestled in squash matches. It will be interesting to see how he looks in matches that are more give-and-take. We won’t have to wait much longer to find out, as he faces Hardy next Friday on Smackdown.
Other thoughts on last night’s show:
No one can say that Triple H wasn’t making his foes look good. He not only sold big for Kozlov, but also for The Big Show during their WWE title match. And Triple H allowed Hardy to take him out with a post-match Twist of Fate as well. ...
The crowd never seems to know how to react when Hardy does something heelish. I like the fact that he suckered Triple H. It shows that he will not be played for a fool by "The Cerebral Assassin." ...
Hardy and MVP had the best match of the night, although the result was never in doubt. Isn’t MVP ever going to be allowed out of the doghouse? I really hope the losing streak is leading to a story line that results in a big push for him. By the way, did we really need Hurricane Helms to pile on MVP? I’m just sayin.’ ...
I guess Vickie Guerrero being in a wheelchair and neck brace is going to be a recurring gimmick. It definitely adds to her heat. I’m still waiting for the "Excuse me!" T-shirt. ...
That had to be The Great Khali’s most entertaining match ever. Bell rings. Two of his three opponents bail. The poor guy still in there takes one chop to the head and gets pinned. I’m betting that Khali as a goofy babyface gets over. ...
I wouldn’t say the same about Kung-Fu-Naki. ...
Whoever made the call to go to a break during R-Truth’s entrance should be fired. ...
It looks as if there might be a Maria-Festus story line. Now that’s one I am definitely looking forward to. I’m guessing that Maria has seen that dazed over, drooling look from men before. ...
That was one heck of a vicious clothesline by Natalya on Brie Bella. She got hit so hard I bet her twin sister could feel it. ...
Kizarny could be an interesting character, but the wrestling carny-speak might get old fast.

If Triple H was this gracious about letting his opponents look good even 50% of the time, I think his matches and feuds would be immensely more entertaining. And now that Hardy has basically suckered HHH on the last 2 Smackdowns, is this the bookers cue to us fans that HHH is more the babyface in this particular feud?
I have to say it would've meant more when JR incessantly referred to the "undefeated" Vladimir Kozlov if he could name even one quality win the guy has. So is habitual interference in other people's matches the new way to establish a wrestler as a legit title contender?
You think Kizarny looks like an interesting character based on that promo last night? He reminds me of the late 80's/ early 90's type characters the WWE trotted out, and not one of the better ones.

Ha. I was laughing when you said you were waiting for an "Excuse Me" T-shirt. I wonder how Vickie feels about her immense heat. I know that its a good thing but I cant help but feel bad that she can barely get an audible sentace out without getting drowned out by the crowd. Many people say they wish she was fired, but I personally feel she is entertaining and I enjoy listening to her.. unlike some people ha. As for Kizarny....I really am not looking forward to his debut unless there is something very interesting in the works for him. I wonder when Jeff will finally win the WWE title. I hope it will be soon.

I think the most interesting thing about Kozlov is that he communicates more with his expressions than most do with words. While a lot of monster heels benefit from having a good talker do promos for them, his expressions really say it all and say it well.

I think Karzarny has the look of Crowbar from WCW days.
I missed Maryse last night but not Michelle McCool.
MVP looked lost to me as Jeff Hardy was on offense most of the match.
Vladimir Kozlov looks a lot better now than he did when first started out. With Kozlov and Jeff in the title picture, where does that leave Edge when he returns?
Kung Fu Naki, that has to be a 1 time thing. Just filling in some time like they couldn't use that to make a match better.
I dont see the title coming off of Triple H until Edge comes back.
I think they should have some thing more with Shelton Benjamin. If you are gonna have a champion on the show use him a lot better.

Just when I think WWE can't sink any lower than the Kai-en-Tai dubbed interviews, Kung-Fu-Naki. I wonder if I can get medical compensation from WWE if they make me shake my head so much that I strain a muscle?

I’m still waiting for the "Excuse me!" T-shirt too...
I agree on the Maria-Festus storyline. A Festus"stien" who is distracted by Maria could fill in any holes during a two hour show.
The Kahli shift is overdue...MVP push is overdue... can't you see MVP's "ballinnnnn" hook shot move a speading like wildfire along with a "ballinnnnn" t-shirt.

I, for one, am actually enjoying Vladimir Kozlov get a push. As soon as the "airport incident," I knew Jeff Hardy wasn't going to win the WWE championship, so I was okay with Kozlov getting more attention than him.
I could see Kozlov getting a short run with the title, if for no other reason than to give Triple H his 13th title reign.

"Whoever made the call to go to a break during R-Truth's entrance should be fired."
I was dissapointed when that happened. I have never been a fan of rap, but I find myself actually looking forward to that entrance on every Smackdown.
It was nice to see Funaki get through a segment without ending up horizontal.

I think that Smackdown is much better than Raw these days. Dunno if that's what they intended, but it certainly is true. My only criticism is that I wish that SHelton Benjamin could get a sustained push. Sure lose here and there, but the guy has some of the best talent and they use every new guy to beat him. That said, I like R Truth, but I wish the fued with Benjamin could be saved for a PPV.
