John Cena's surgery
It was great to see that John Cena's surgery to repair a herniated disk yesterday was successful. It has been reported that he is expected to return in two to four months.
Fortunately for Cena, he did not have to undergo fusion surgery, which requires significantly more recovery time. Cena's surgeon removed a disk fragment on Cena's spinal cord that was weakening the nerve leading to his right arm, wwe.com reported.
Cena made it clear in an interview on the Web site that he wants to get back in the ring as soon as possible. Hopefully, he won't try to come back before he is ready. If the timetable for Cena's return proves accurate, he and Randy Orton, who reportedly is out with a broken collarbone, would likely be coming back around the same time.

Comments
Not to sound cynical, but sometimes I wonder if the WWE over-sensationalizes Cena's injuries. He was supposed to be on the shelf for awhile with torn pec, then comes back in 3 months or so. Then, the WWE is having quotes, etc., from other wrestlers talking about Cena, almost like his career might be in jeopardy or something. Then I see pics of him on the website last night, where he showed up at an event, a few hours after having surgery??
I don't know, maybe he's the toughest man on the planet and has an incredible threshold for pain. However, when people like Angle, Edge, Benoit, etc., went out for MAJOR neck procedures, I don't recall testimonies on the website about them, and they were getting their neck fused (not Angle).
Hopefully Cena didn't take the quick fix like Angle did. Otherwise he'll end up getting addicted to painkillers or constantly having his wrestling interrupted by having to take time off to rest the neck.
Kevin, I know this is off the wall, but any chance you think Edge would show up on Raw, to give them a main eventer in the absence of Orton and Cena? He never did get his re-match with Punk for the belt he lost.
RESPONSE FROM KEVIN ECK: Interesting question with Edge since he already has had programs with Triple H and Undertaker. If he left, though, Smackdown would really be hurting on the heel side.

If Cena and Orton do come back together, get ready for a nasty storyline with the two. I see this storyline almost as hot as Jericho and Michaels.

I see Cena and Orton rehabbing together, becoming friends and looking to take down Batista. Unfortunate injuries, Easy 'heel' turn for Cena.

I see Cena making his return at survivor series and interupting the traditional surivor series tag-team match. I think if wwe wants Cena as a heel then it would be easy to do by him interfering during the match causing the faces to lose. And there is your Cena turn.

Look, I don't condone deriving pleasure from anyone's misfortune. However, is it wrong to cheer the prospect of a Cena-less 4 months of WWE programming? Creative MUST seize this opportunity to flip his character. MUST. This is perfect timing for the heel turn that has to happen, or else Cena will be immortalized as the "live action cartoon" for all time. Besides the fact that the largest demographic (and yes, don't believe the hype, the male 25-40 demo is still the biggest and most desirable bracket from an advertising standpoint) totally despises him, but it also appears that creative have run out of things for him to do an/or don't know where to go with it. They need to change his look, his attitude and, please, please, please his wrestling "skills". Hell, have him come back with a Jericho-esque chip on his shoulder for having to hear the fans cheer with delight upon receiving news of his injured neck. Neck injuries are serious business, Cena could milk that good. WWE is lacking great, serious heels right now. It's basically Edge, Jericho and Orton. After that is a HUGE drop-off.
PS: Once again, I don't condone deriving pleasures from others misfortune, but you gotta love the "housecleaning" that the WWE has been doing as of late. "Out with the old, in with the new" is a basic, necessary evil if you wanna keep people excited about the product. Now if we can just get rid of Snitsky, Khali, SuperCrazy, Boogeyman and the (sigh) leprechaun, we'll be in good shape...

I can't think of anyone else in modern pro wrestling history with the dedication and love for his work that Cena has...it sounds like he was devastated about his injury at first...then, hours after the surgery, he was backstage at an event...
It's hard not to admire the guy...I just hope he doesn't push too hard to come back too soon...he needs to know, he's got a job with this company for life if he wants it. Nobody else (besides Triple H) is at that level, and has that much commitment.

Hey Kev I wud luv 2 c a Cena heel turn as much as ne1 and it wud b gr8 if he claimed tht his "chain gang" betrayed him bt I do thnk WWE wud lose half thr merchandise revenue if tht happens lol .What Do u thnk about a Batista heel turn since I alrdy cant stand the guy for forcing himself in2 the title race really reminds me of the Old HHH . It wud also get punk evn more over thn he alrdy is

I agree that (most) people live were probably cheering for Cena losing his spot in the scramble, rather than for his being hurt. Not to make excuses, but arena audio usually isn't the best and it WAS Mike Adamle, the world's greatest speaker, making the announcement.

Undertaker has been around almost non-stop since 1991... he's still not at that level yet? To be honest, I'd say Taker is at a level higher than even Helmsley.

What if Cena switched and went to TNA instead of going back to WWE?
Sorry but I think it would rock, It would be like Hogan when he turned on WWE and went to WCW. Cause Cena reminds me alot of Hogan. He has the fan base like the Hulkster does and did.
TNA Rocks!
