Mourning the breakup of Edge and Vickie Guerrero

Edge really messed up this time. It appears as if his and Vickie Guerrero’s glorious reign of terror on Smackdown is over – along with their relationship – because he was caught on tape making out with the wedding planner.

Triple H crashed Edge and Guerrero’s wedding reception last night on Smackdown and revealed the hidden video of Edge putting the moves on Alicia Fox.

I’m deeply saddened by this shocking development. Edge and Guerrero are an awesome heel act and they have been carrying Smackdown. Oh well, I guess nothing lasts forever, but I do wish it would have lasted a while longer.

In all seriousness, I do think it’s premature to split them up, and I don’t believe Guerrero will be as entertaining as a babyface (assuming that is where this is headed). Guerrero turning babyface reportedly was the plan since the inception of the Edge-Guerrero story line, but she has been getting unbelievable heat from the crowd, so I wouldn’t have messed with something that was working so well.

I do believe there is a method to WWE’s madness, however. I’m guessing that Guerrero, seeking revenge for Edge’s betrayal, will reinstate The Undertaker. I could see Undertaker possibly screwing over Edge in his match against WWE champion Triple H Sunday at The Great American Bash to resume their feud.

As I have stated in the past, I have mixed feelings about going in that direction. Edge and Undertaker have had some great matches, but the feud feels played out. If the scenario unfolds the way I think it will, then Triple H will likely remain champion for a while. Nothing against Triple H, but I think Edge is deserving of a lengthy reign. Perhaps when Edge’s inevitable feud with Undertaker concludes, Edge will get back in the title picture and reclaim the gold.

Other thoughts from last night’s show:

The wedding reception stuff wasn’t bad, but it won’t go down as one of WWE’s classic wedding/reception episodes. The best part was Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins wrestling in their tuxes (with Edge refereeing), and Guerrero pinning a fallen Cherry while wearing her wedding gown. …

I hope we’re going to get some explanation as to how Triple H found out about Edge and Alicia and managed to videotape them together. …

One of the most entertaining things on the show was Edge’s new Slim Jim commercial. Maybe Spicy Side Edge could wrestle Hornswoggle. …

I’m not sure what to make of Umaga pinning Mr. Kennedy clean in what bordered on being a squash match. …

Brian Kendrick’s new cocky heel persona has the potential to get over. I don’t know if his bodyguard, Ezekiel, can work, but if titles were awarded for menacing looks, he would be the world champion. ...

There was no story line reason for Kendrick turning heel, but Jim Ross and Mick Foley at least tried to come up with something. Ross said he noticed that Kendrick seemed to be having a change of attitude backstage lately, and Foley added that Kendrick was always a jerk and now he’s showing his true self. …

Foley had the line of the night. After Festus got the hot tag, he said: “He’s going off the rails of the gravy train.” Foley had another funny line when he referred to Guerrero by her new married name: Vickie Guerrero Edge. …

I also liked Ross’ line about Natalya: “She’s Natalya by name and naughty by nature.” I wonder if Good Ol’ J.R. has “Hip Hop Horray” on his iPod.

I have never been a Triple H fan but his performance on Smackdown was great. He was the highlight of the evening for me.
I see some rough times ahead for Edge as Vicki gets her revenge for him first cancelling the wedding then gets caught cheating when it's back on again. Did the WWE hire some soap opera writers and keep it a secret?

A few quick thoughts...

To paraphrase the late Lloyd Bentson: Kendrick, I knew the young Shawn Michaels. I marked for the young Shawn Michaels. You sir, are no young Shawn Michaels...

Line of the night: When Trips said something along the lines of "don't worry, I didn't secretly marry Vickie Guerrero."

True story: Smackdown aired late in Chicago because of the Cubs game, so it didn't end until 12:30 am CST. After it was over, my neighbor called me up complaining of excess noise. Turns out Vickie's shrieking woke him up. To quote Y2J, she needs to NEVER, EEEEEVER do that again.

I don't like the fact that Edge/Vickie/ La Familia have been wreaking havoc on Smackdown for several months, and it only takes a couple of weeks of Triple H on Smackdown to send the whole thing crashing down. I hope this isn't the case and maybe they will (again) reconcile for a while, but I fear your scenario of a lengthy Triple H title reign may be imminent.
I don't know how Vickie can be made a babyface at this stage unless she can somehow surgically change her voice.
And I was always under the assumption that Undertaker might be shifting to RAW on his return due to his rumored dislike of Triple H in real life- is this supposed animosity between those two overblown? Undertaker returning as Vickie's revenge on Edge does make sense.

That is why Triple H is the most loved guy on smackdown(next to jeff hardy, of course). Because smackdown is taped, I got the news from a friend who went to the event. I'm happy he made me wait to hear the Gurrerro scream. I was actually crying for her... well actually at her. What's a shattered window to the joy of hearing her scream?

What I think is really (bad) is how they are killing Kennedy, why the hell have him in a feud with Umaga?? Kennedy seems to have the charisma and talent to be the next big thing and the crowd loves him. He should be after Hardy for the US title or getting revenge on Edge for taking the MITB from him.

And I agree with you about the La Familia breakup. A much better way would have been to have Vickie screw Edge over and keep her as a heel GM, she's hilarious!

I hadn't thought about Vicki reinstating Undertaker, but that makes perfect sense. Hopefully the gogoplata is back, too. I kind of expect to see Undertaker at Bash, interfering with Edge and Triple H and then a Triple threat at the next PPV where Undertaker finally gets that long title run.

I thought last nights show was so boring almost fell asleep, but then again most weddings are lol, but I thought the matt hardy and Jeff hardy match was good until it was ruined

If this is the end of the Edge/Vickie Guerrero relationship, then last night's broadcast was the single best way to give the couple a last hurrah as united heels, but I agree, separating them now would be a misstep; one of the pitfalls of long-term planning.

I think it is safe to say that Smackdown! won this year's WWE Draft since I have been far more entertained on Friday nights than Monday lately.

Not to give the rumor mill much validity (esp. when I only read it on one site), but I heard Michael Hayes had a HHH/Taker program written before his suspension, so perhaps there are more twists planned before SummerSlam.

As gold as it was to see the La Familia power trip go down in flames, I wished they would have stayed together and utilized La Familia sort of like the McMahon-Helmsley faction. My thought is they could have used La Familia to catapult the likes of Hardy and Kennedy by having the two of them along with Triple H and Big Show feud with La Familia for the titles.

Another thing I would have liked was for Kennedy to pick up a win against Umaga to maybe spark a small feud. I feel like the WWE totally killed any "face" momentum Kennedy brought with him from RAW when he lost that match.

I like where the WWE is going with Kendrick but I really do think he should come up with a flashy, quick-to-hit finisher if they are gonna build him as the next Shawn Michaels.

Edge needs to be champion , i really cant stand triple h current title run its bland and boring i mean hes hardly been on t.v while edge has been carrying the show triple h just drop the darn belt u don't need it to get over u won it 12 times already! i dont want to see the face holding the title for months and months we had that on raw with cena it makes boring t.v.

Everybody is talking about the screwed-wedding stuff but...
Since his partnership with JR, Foley seems to put all of himself in order to fit with the massive talent that JR has.
I think they both seem happy during the show. Of course now the program has many reasons to become soon into a "must see" show in some "RAW" kind of way, but Foley and JR are making of smackdown something special.

Glen: Regarding Undertaking going to Raw to get away from HHH -- don't forget he is dating Michelle McCool so even if he truly dislikes HHH, he may want to stay on Smackdown to be with her.

"I hope we are going to get some explanation as to how HHH found out about Edge and Alicia and videotaped them together."

We shall probably have to suspend our disbelief on that one, Kevin, much like we had to suspend our disbelief on how a cameraman could be between JBL's speeding car and Cena's prone body.

RESPONSE FROM KEVIN ECK: Good point.

it was hilarious when vickie was screaming cause everyone could hear her without a micro phone XD

JBL gets booed because he plays the heel role well. Vickie is getting booed because she sucks. You can call this the X-Pac syndrome. I, and I suspect the fans in the crowd booing her, are doing so because we can't stand her and do not want to see her as a character. You don't want your talent getting booed for this reason.

RESPONSE FROM KEVIN ECK: You might feel that way, but I don't think you can speak for everyone.
