« Obama vs. Clinton on Raw: What if? | Main | No joke: All three presidential candidates to be on Raw »

Reaction to feedback on Obama vs. Clinton

I appreciate those who posted a comment or sent me an e-mail saying that they got a chuckle out of this morning’s post, in which I imagined what would happen if Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton accepted WWE’s invitation to appear on Raw tomorrow night.

Obviously, my intent was just to have a little fun with the absurd idea of the two presidential candidates settling their differences in the ring – which is what WWE has proposed.

It seems that not everyone got the joke, however.

I have received quite a few comments from people passionately defending their candidate and denouncing what they perceived as a negative portrayal of him or her. Some even attempted to engage in a serious political debate.

Don’t get me wrong. Next to pro wrestling, politics is one of my favorite subjects to discuss. But there is a time and place for serious discourse on the election, and that place isn’t on Raw or on this blog. For that reason, I have chosen not to post any comments from people who didn’t take the post in the vein in which it was intended.

Some people even claimed that they could tell my political leanings by the satirical piece. Believe me, those who know me well will find that especially funny. I have no problem poking fun at both parties – although, with President Bush, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel at this point.

OK, now that I’ve offended both sides, let’s move on.

To follow up on a post from last week, I will be discussing pro wrestling on The Rob Long Show on WNST (1570 AM) every Wednesday at 3 p.m. beginning this week. The segments will be archived on WNST.net.

You said it Big Kev , some people can't get the joke . What kind of idiot would honestly think that " Ring Posts " was a forum for political debate ? Two things I won't debate with anyone nor do I care to hear from anyone are opinions of religion and politics . I saw some moron even state his hopeful candidate of 2012 , Jesse Ventura . Oh , sorry that moron was me .

Anyone who was actually offended by your last post needs to be Batista Bombed out of their minds.

You ended your piece with MoveOn.

An Obama supporter all along.

Hillary Clinton is one tough lady and that is why I support her!

Obama had better start to bulk up because if he gets the nomination he will be carrying Jeremiah Wright around with him everywhere he goes.

Hillary Clinton 2008!!!

Obviously you overestimate the intelligence of a lot of people who post their opinions. Next time perhaps you should state in CAPITLAL LETTERS that your question is a joke and you will not approve SERIOUS comments.

Your experience, unfortunately, shows that many Americans who take the trouble to follow political matters are not very intelligent.

Kevin,

You wrote a great piece... and I know you just wanted to add some good humor to ease the tension raised over the past weeks...

And for sure the WWE, besides the athleticism, has lots of politics... even when wrestlers change from good buddies to hard enemies... like delegates changing sides... "five times he said to my face...", good old Bill...

It has been the best reality show in town...

Someone will write a great book detailing all that when on during this primary...

Thanks again for adding a little humor,
Paul

I really can't imagine these two 'elitist' candidates were ever even closet fans of WWE/WWF. But then again they may have run in the same circles as the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase or Bobby "The Brain" Heenan who of course was from Beverly Hills, Ca.

At wwe.com there is a THQ simulation of Obama and Clinton making their ring entrances as if they are going to have a match...Sweet!!

Some people just have no sense of humor. I enjoy reading your blog everyday & got a kick out of the post you did describing what you thought should happen between "Hill-Rod" and Barack. Great job...even better than WWE's version!

RESPONSE FROM KEVIN ECK: Now this is obviously an intelligent person. I would expect nothing less from a Baltimore girl!
