No joke: All three presidential candidates to be on Raw
WWE's publicity stunt has turned out better than it ever could have imagined.
The company had invited Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to settle their differences in the ring tonight during a three-hour edition of Raw. Most fans were expecting two impersonators to show up, much like the infamous Donald Trump-Rosie O'Donnell match last year.
Instead, the real Obama, Clinton and Republican John McCain will all address the WWE audience tonight via taped messages, according to a WWE news release.
This is a win-win situation. WWE gains exposure and credibility, and the candidates, by appearing on a wrestling program, show that they have a sense of humor and are not elitists. They also get a forum to deliver their messages to a young demographic that otherwise might not have been listening.

Who do you think will win the King of the Ring? I figure, to be king, you need a wrestler that can "ham it up" and play the part. King Edge, with Vickie as his queen? lol King Kennedy??

they should face off in a steel cage or ladder match

Oh Kevin , just make this go away . Probably what I have to say will get me in trouble . While on one hand it's good that the candidates will be be exposed to some that may not have otherwise not ever paid any attention to them . ( Much like MTV's "Rock the Vote"). But on the other hand , and this is where I get into trouble , it may cause many from ths " crowd " to vote solely on black /white , male/female . Not because of the issues . Of course I doubt how many are registered . I know I just came off sounding pretty bad , but I've been exposed to wrestling for nearly 40 years and by no means am I better than anyone educationally or financially . I'm just a working stiff like most of the readers . I have just wasted everyones time by doing what I said yesterday I don't like to do , discuss politics , sorry ....Go TNA !

I will just say it. This is a BAD thing. When I choose to watch RAW or Survivor or a hockey game or MMA, I am doing it because I don't want THOSE people on my TV screen! Its bad enough that 1/3 of the crap on my cable system are new channels. You have the Republican CNN (CNBC), The Democratic CNN (MSNBC), The Right Wing Kook CNN (Fox News), The CNN for people that don't have time for CNN (Headline News) The Regional CNN (Channel 14), and need I forget...the ACTUAL CNN is still around. I figure if there is one place you can escape these people, its on USA from 9-11:10. If RAW was endorsing a third party candidate, that would be something different. I would gladly endorse Mark Calloway if it would get his no talent butt out of the wrestling business.

Smackdown your vote!!
In grad school, I wanted to do a paper on the WWE's voter mobilization effort, but Gary Davis never responded to my inquiries. Disappointing. This would have made a nice section of the paper, too!
I guess the WWE doesn't get a lot of academic requests.

Gotta say, I think King Kennedy would lead to awesome promos and such. His character fits so well with it, kinda like King Booker did.
On the other hand, fans seem to take him seriously anyway on the strength of his programs with HBK and such... maybe someone undernoticed/underused like Shelton Benjamin would benefit more. (I fondly recall his short series with HHH a few years back... more, please.)

GAH. What is it with WWE and royally (pardon the pun) screwing up great opportunities? With the publicity from the candidate thing and the King of the Ring, they throw out... Khali in any form, Regal vs. Hornswoggle and ignore so many people who could have made it a good and entertaining tourney (Kennedy, Benjamin, Carlito, Santino)...
This is getting dangerously close to "I'd rather be watching Law and Order re-runs" territory. Ugh.

Well Eck,
What about the effectiveness of the Regal Stretch now he is King of the Ring?
