Santino Marella: King of All Media

If I have one complaint about Raw recently, it’s that there just hasn’t been enough of Santino Marella on the show.

Fortunately, WWE has found other outlets for Marella to showcase his vast comedic talent.

Last week, Santino’s Corner made its debut on wwe.com. In the short clip, Marella gives his unique views on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Dancing with the Stars judge Bruno Tonioli and Britney Spears. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, especially his politically incorrect quip about Tonioli and Italian sausages. Click here to watch the video.

One of my co-workers suggested that WWE should promote Santino’s Corner on Raw. Actually, I think Santino’s Corner should become a regular segment on Raw.

Meanwhile, on WWE 24/7 On Demand this month, Marella hosts the “Shorties” clips, which feature the Raw debuts of current and former stars such as The Rock, Steve Austin and Chris Jericho. In several of the clips, Marella’s one-minute intros are more entertaining than the matches.

As always with Marella, it’s not so much what he’s saying that’s funny, it’s how he’s saying it and his mannerisms that make it funny. If WWE’s film division ever does a comedy, Marella definitely should star in it.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to have a cappuccino.

I'm glad someone else sees it that way too. Totally in accord that Santino Marella is microphone gold.

Does Santino actually speak with an Italian accent in real life?

Good stuff, Kevin. I'll admit, I was laughing pretty good watching Santino in his little online segment on WWE.com.

FAO John

Santino is actually a Canadian Anthony Carelli, so I dont think he speaks in Italian accent, he should do thought because its funny.

Agree, I think Santino is one of the best on the mic in recent history in terms of making you laugh, but drawing heat at the same time. I agree that he should have Santino's corner on RAW too, maybe even an occasional guest like The Highlight Reel or Peep Show. Although, to make it funny they don't have to be wrestlers. Local celebrities/heroes or such would suffice, allowing Santino to have the perfect platform to get heel heat.

Also Santino doesn't speak with an Italian accent in real life. In OVW, the WWE's training facility, his gimmick was actually Russian!

In my eyes all of these comments are good but aren't true. I think Santino as some guys on WWE say,"Is butchering the American accent." He's a waist of air time. The only good thing about him is Maria. She needs to wear better outfits though.(HINT,HINT!!!)

I just discoverd your column. I really respect your opinions on the wrestling organizations and its' wrestlers while th einterviews are first-rate. I thought last week's Global Impact was fantastic. What's your opinion ? Do you think there's any way they'll go in a more serious direction with Kurt Angle ? he came off great in the show.

RESPONSE FROM KEVIN ECK: I thought Global Impact was very well done. Do I think TNA will go in a more serious direction? Uh, no.

Yes I agree that Santino is one of the
best things to happen to WWE in
a lomg time.He ia very skilled at the
mic. Not everybody can do the
stuff that he does. It takes a lot
of skill and timing.Whoever is
on with him he has no problem
carying. He is Microphone GOLD.

Then suffice to say, you haven't been watching RAW in quite some time since Santino is with Beth Phoenix now.

Santino is by far, one of the best in the business on the mic for WWE. He has charisma, personality and can draw incredible heat.

WWE needs to put him in a program with one of the top babyfaces in order for Santino to recieve the push he deserves. Anyone with skills like his needs to be showcased and putting him in gimmick matches just doesn't cut the mustard anymore.

Since of his paring withBeth Phoenix
they have made this duo and his mic
skill with some one to feed him makes this of the hottest duo's in the
business.Even though he carries her
she stll hads to his routine and of
course being the best mic the business has ever seen makes raw worth waiting for monday raw. Best Comedic heel the businss has ever seen.He has lifted her worth in the wwe. Most important female under contract.
