Uh-oh, Vince is acting funny again

Some thoughts on last night’s Raw:

Let me start by saying that I enjoy watching Vince McMahon as a performer. I find his exaggerated facial expressions, mannerisms and over-the-top acting to be entertaining. But while last night’s performance by the WWE chairman made me laugh, it also had a been-there, done-that feel.

After being humiliated on the Raw 15th anniversary show last week, McMahon became even more distraught when the fans laughed at him last night. He seemed to be having a nervous breakdown right in the ring. To ramp up the humor, Triple H then came out to further embarrass his real-life father-in-law.

As I said, McMahon is priceless in these types of segments, but he has already done the crazy act on a few occasions, including six months ago when WWE began the “Who killed Vince?” angle that was scrapped in the wake of the Chris Benoit tragedy. I wouldn’t have taken the Mr. McMahon character in this direction again so soon after having just seen it. …

There were a lot of positives about last night’s show. Here’s one of them: no Hornswoggle!

There were some really good promos, as well. Ric Flair was effective in making his retirement angle something that fans can have an emotional investment in. That emotion is the key to whether this angle gets over the way it should. I know that it’s probably not happening, but I really think the payoff to this story line should be Flair facing Edge for the world heavyweight title at WrestleMania 24. That would be more compelling than Edge-Undertaker and Flair versus whomever. …

Chris Jericho and JBL also were strong on the microphone in their verbal duel. This is a fresh match-up and it’s one I’m looking forward to seeing – and hearing. …

Raw wasn’t all talk, however. The main event, which saw Jeff Hardy and Shawn Michaels defeat Randy Orton and Mr. Kennedy, was exciting. Hardy pinned Orton after hitting the Swanton to build for their title match at Royal Rumble next month. I was surprised that there was no interaction between Hardy and Triple H the day after their match at Armageddon. …

I think Santino Marella and Carlito are going to be an entertaining tag team, although it seemed like a seed was planted for Carlito to turn babyface down the road. …

Not to be sexist, but wasn’t Melina a little overdressed for the Santa’s Little Helpers match?

Mr McMahon is probably one of my favourite RAW stars of all time.
RAW has been great these last 2 weeks.

Kevin...
I honestly see something building between Jeff and Triple H. I mean they tease this stuff all the time.. It could end up a threeway with Jeff, Randy and Trips at WM. I mean there is plenty of time for Jeff to drop the IC title buy a Trips or Orton Run in... Specially to someone like Ken Kennedy, I really dont think Orton should hold the title till WM for the entire time.. maybe a drop the title at Royal Rumble and regain on Raw the night after.."very standard in this business, but effective".
Melina has claimed time and time again she wont go much further then cleavege shots.. Plus her "persona" is that stuck up that she wont do that.
I am kind of over Chris Jericho already, they punked his big entrance I think. I have a feeling that we will see him fade out again... Fans also are not taking him serious as they think his return is nothing but a push for his book. People want wrestlers to return in good faith not in good profit. I dont think we will be seeing Hogan at wrestlemania in a major action angle, I mean my friends and I saw his "BIG" return on Raw15 and it was horrible.. first and foremost no red and yellow, and was very rusty, it was a terrible run in. I have spent all my life watching wrestling and I watched both WWE and WCW and have to say that I am so bored with the same tired crap they are pulling.. ie..Vince and the crazy angle, Orton and his tired dialog, Santino and his boring bit and the hold off on Maria finally ditching him for being a jerk...

Re: Melina...

Yes, she was.

On Flair, I hope they don't plan on continuing to give Flair retirement style speeches before every match unless he is really going to talk smack. Give me a taste of what made him great. "Space Mountain...limosine ridin'...to be the man...all night long...Woooooo!"

JBL on the 'tron was lame, but it gives people a reason to show up for Smackdown, which is good. Nice shiner on Jericho...This is a feud that was quite unexpected and I am expecting great things from.

Mickie wins but with her old DDT finisher. I an aching for another long kiss goodnight!

I can't believe you are saying that the McMahon angle is too soon. The reason it's being picked up is because it wasn't played out. Look at all the injured champions that got their belts back one they returned. It's like they want to use whatever they had planned, and now they can.

Hey, I agree with you as well. I like the "Mr. McMahon" character as well because it provides comic relief. Mr. McMahon reminds me of a comic/cartoon villian. You really don't see Vince's comedic side until he's in an angle with people such as DX, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and other hereos that are like them. Lots of people say that the character should be taken off the air because we see him too much. I don't think that the character should be taken off the air, but we shouldn't see too much. Supposedly, when the limo blew up, that was going to be the last time we will see the character and I had a feeling that the character would pop up again. People keep saying to get rid of the character, but when the limo blew up and we saw the RAW shows that took place after, the ratings weren't that good. But, when Vince came back, the ratings went up slightly. I guess, WWE needs the character for awhile to help out with the ratings. But, I think that if anyone were to get rid of the character, they should do it in a better way.
