A scary moment on Raw

When Candice Michelle took a nasty spill off the top rope, landing awkwardly on her neck and shoulder during her match with Beth Phoenix on Raw last night, I immediately feared the worst. I couldn’t help but think of former WWE star and Maryland football player Darren Drozdov, whose life changed in a split second when a botched move resulted in paralysis.

Last night’s incident was another reminder of how perilous is to be a professional wrestler. Fortunately, it appears that Michelle escaped without suffering a life-altering injury. According to a report on pwinsider.com, Michelle, who was carried from the ring on a stretcher, was diagnosed with a concussion and a broken collarbone after being taken to a medical facility in Omaha.

After Michelle’s fall, the referee could be overheard asking her if she was OK. When a glazed-over Michelle didn’t respond, the ref called for the finish. He directed Phoenix to “drag her out” from the corner “and cover her.” Phoenix – who obviously wasn’t thinking straight – recklessly grabbed Michelle by the hair to pull her to the center of the ring, prompting the referee to say, “Easy.” He then said, “This is it,” as he made the three count, signaling to the women that they were going straight to the finish.

Michelle eventually regained consciousness, moved her arms and then sat up and took a sip of water before lying back down.

The first show I watched on our new 50" plasma HDTV was raw tonight and I realized that along with the better view of the wrestling action are better views of cringe-inducing shots like CM's fall tonight. Her sitting up was a relief to see but it was easy to see by looking at her face that she had her bell rung real good. Hopefully, rest is all CM will need to recover fully. The Raw Fan Nation is praying for it.

I was shocked to see how Beth Phoenix handled that situation. Anybody could have seen the fall that Candice Michelle took was bad. It doesn't take much thought to see that she was in trouble. Its quite upsetting to see how a professionally trained wrestler handled that situation, especially on the WWE level.

The ref saw that Candice was out. He saw it. He said it. Instead of protecting Candice by calling for medics, he instructed her opponet to "drag her out and cover her"! They could have seriously hurt Candice. If someone falls on their head/neck, you do not move them and you get help. You do not drag them to continue the storyline. Fire the ref, suspend her opponent, and fine the WWE!!!

That was a terrible fall...my wife and I immediately were thinking broken neck but it looked like she did try to turn herself towards her shoulder and back when she realized she had slipped. I didn't hear the refs comments but I thought Beth was a little rough too in the way she pulled her over to the center of the ring. She may be getting some heat from Vince and the rest of the crew backstage for that. We wish Candace well, I've seen she is out 6-8 weeks. She has actually come a long way from when she started, her moves are much more fluid now.
On another topic, I saw that Stephanie is furious over the "Save Us" being leaked out that Jericho was indeed what that was all about and that she is now trying to restructure all the creative teams contracts into a bit of a gag order that they cannot say anything to anyone about story lines. I've read they are going so far as to check cell phone records and get forensics involved. Care to comment on this?

Beth wasn't paying attention to her opponent in the ring. The ref should've declared the match over since Beth was going to keep the title. How reckless of the ref and Beth.

Yeah...I was watching that fight, and of course, I realize that "the show must go on" no matter what happens, but it was clearly a dangerous, possibly devastating action, for Phoenix to grab her by the hair and arm. Of course, I don't know what else she could've done. She should've just pinned her right where she lay. She even could've done the "boot stand" pin, and done less harm to the injured Candice. Anyways, my two cents...

Did anyone see the behind the scene video on WWE's web site? When it showed Candice on the stretcher backstage with a neckbrace lying flat. Did you see the "MORON" that gave her a drink of water while she was laying FLAT! Her immediate reaction was to jump up because she started to choke! That sudden movement probably didn't help her neck and Clavicle. And why were the referees helping push her towards the Ambulance? Aren't there enough medical staff standing by in case of an emergency? These referees need to be suspended!

i thought this could of been another story line so candice michelle could be off tv for a month or two, i wasnt sure if this was real injury or not

the refs do more then just watch tapes backstage&ef matches, they help with injured people etc

i hope candice michelle gets better, i hope this isnt antoher fake sick storyline
