Previewing One Night Stand

My predictions for tonight’s WWE pay-per-view:

WWE champion John Cena vs. The Great Khali (falls count anywhere): Cena getting pinned by Khali on Saturday’s Night’s Main Event seems to indicate what most people have thought all along regarding this match – Cena wins it with the FU and moves on to the next challenger. With the falls-count-anywhere stipulation, this has a shot to be an entertaining main event.

World heavyweight champion Edge vs. Batista (steel cage match): For Judgment Day, I predicted that Edge would win with interference from Mark Henry. That didn’t happen, but I still think Henry and Batista are going to feud, so maybe Henry will get involved in tonight’s finish. Whether he does or not, Edge will retain the title.

ECW champion Mr. McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley (street fight): Finally, Lashley ends Vince’s reign and regains the title. Vince is limited as far as wrestling ability, but he can bleed and take a beating with the best of them.

Randy Orton vs. Rob Van Dam (stretcher match): With so many top stars on the injured list, Orton has to be given a strong push. He has gained some momentum after “injuring” Shawn Michaels, so I can’t imagine him not winning convincingly here, especially with Van Dam on his way out.

World tag team champions The Hardys vs. The World’s Greatest Tag Team (ladder match): This has potential to steal the show. Since the Hardys are involved in an angle with Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, I expect them to retain the titles.

Mark Henry vs. Kane (lumberjack match): After losing to Umaga and The Great Khali over the past several months, it appears that Kane’s current role is to put over WWE’s monster heels. It’s too early in Henry’s return for “The World’s Strongest Man” to lose, so I expect the trend to continue.

Women’s champion Melina vs. Candice Michelle (non-title pudding match): In a match contested in a vat of pudding, victory will be sweet for Candice, as Melina gets her just desserts. Did I really just write that?

CM Punk, Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs. Elijah Burke, Marcus Cor Von and Matt Striker (tables match): There has been tension between Striker and his fellow New Breed members, so I’m guessing that Striker is the weak link that costs them the match.
