Hey, Luke: time to let the birther thing go.

OK, now I'm starting to worry about Luke Scott. Next he's going to want proof that the Earth is round.

So the Orioles outfielder still doesn't believe President Barack Obama was born in the U.S? Even with the release of the prez's birth certificate last week? In long form? With every i clearly dotted and every t crossed for all to see?

Nope, apparently Scott remains unconvinced, telling the Kansas City Star recently that Obama's birth certificate "has yet to be validated."

"If they can counterfeit $100 bills, I think it's a million times easier to counterfeit a birth certificate, if you ask me," Scott is quoted as saying. "So all it is, let's just see if it's real. Anybody can produce a document, so let's check it out."

Hoo, boy. And you wonder why the president says releasing those death photos of Osama bin Laden won't quiet the skeptics who still believe the terrorist leader is still alive?

Luke, let it go. Stick to hitting baseballs. And catching them. This nonsense about Obama's birth is starting to make you sound crazy.

Comments

Seems to me the Journalists are the ones that keep asking Luke Scott about it and the Journalists are the ones that cannot let it go.

Give it up.

Kevin:

Do you know if Luke went with the rest of the team to visit the Negro League Baseball Hall of Fame in KC on yesterday? If he didn't he missed an opportunity to show a more egalitarian side of himself and prove himself a real friend to Pia, not just a home run hitting buiffoon.

Were you really surprised? Anyone who believed that Obama wasn't a citizen at that point had already rationalized away so much evidence that there was no way that would convince them.
Try asking Luke just what it would take, I bet he can't give you any answer that couldn't ( and wouldn't) be just as easily dismissed. They all wanted to see the long form, so they see it and now the bar moves again. People like Luke will never believe it, no matter what you show them, they can always claim any evidence is fake, and always will.

Luke Scott was being interviewed by someone. Did that interviewer ask Scott about his "birther" convictions?

If not, if Scott just blurted them out unsolicited, then I'd agree Scott might probably do well for himself if he just went about his (baseball) business.

But if the interviewer took the initiative to ask him, I see NO reason for Scott to stifle himself just to please others' delicate sensibilities.

And given that reporters love to dredge up controversial topics, I think I know to some degree of certainty whether Scott's latest "birther" pronouncement was solicited.

How about we cut through the BS and ask Luke Scott which outcome he would prefer.

Mr. Scott, if you had a button to push that could make the outcome of your choice come to pass, which button would you push? The one that would make the certificate false? Or the one that would make it valid?

That's the heart of the matter. Most of the birther folks probably want him to have not been born here to legitimize their fervor. Thus, if given the choice to do away with the conspiracy by legitimizing the birth certificate of a dually elected president, they probably would choose not to do so.

Your the newspaper guy. If you wanna let it go quit writing about it.

And isn't it time for you "journalists" (instigators is a better term) to let this silliness go? Always trying to dredge up stories where there are none. Who cares what Luke Scott or any other "celebrity" thinks about the President's birth certificate or the situation in Lower Slobovia? Luke's job is hitting: talk to him about that.

As long as somebody asks him, he has a right to answer the question.

Last I looked this was America and NOT Nazi Germany. People have a right to their opinion. I happen to share Luke's opinion and question Obama's authenticity. BTW: why cover up the Bin Laden photos?? This wreaks Communism..

Hey Cowherd, maybe it's time the Press stop asking him about it!

You guys need to lay off Luke. There are a lot of intelligent Americans who have the same doubts. Maybe you're right though, politicians almost never try to deceive us.

Kevin, I don't recall Luke calling a press conference to make his feelings known about the President's birth certificate or anything else.

If you or Matt or anybody else asks him a question, he will answer with what he thinks and feels. Agree or disagree with what he says, Luke gives you a straight answer. If you don't like the answer, don't ask the question. If the Sun's writers ask Luke about baseball, he will talk about baseball.

You guys are keeping this story alive, not him. I've got a feeling if you let it go, he won't bring it up.

It's getting old Luke.
Shut up & concentrate on hitting the freakin ball.
You're really starting to sound like a typical miserable old red neck.
When you start hitting .300 again your comments may carry some weight...till then, try hitting your weight.
Jerk!

Just because a guy is a baseball player he can't comment on politics? Do you apply the same standard to the Hollywood crowd? Just because you choose to believe that a document the man in the White House refused to reveal for over three years, for no good reason, should not be subject to question or validation? And you're a newspaper reporter? Kevin, you are the one who's sounding crazy.

Luke Scott proves two things:

1)Professional baseball players need great hand-to-eye coordination.

2)Professional baseball players don't need ANY brain-to-mouth coordination.

I want to listen to Luke talk about politics about as much as I want to watch him dance in a tutu. We don't need any more reasons to lose interest in the O's. Luke's mouth and Simon's gun are two more downers.

This is why I have such disdain for media types...Luke didn't call a press conference to announce his beliefs...he stated them in response to someone from the media asking him a question...and the guys that keep going back to him to talk about are the same ones who are whining that he should stop talking about it...well you know, maybe he WOULD let it go if you guys stopped bringing it up...

Starting to make him sound crazy?????????? He's way past the starting line and getting closer to the finish line.

just another democRAT from this paper trying to trash a white male republican. shocker!

When Scott hits .300 with 40 HRs and 115 RBI's, he can say anything he wants. Until then, I don't want to hear from him...unless he wants to be true to his right wing instincts and renounce his membership in the MLBPA.

Starting to make him sound crazy? Luke is way out past the left field wall at this point ...

Who said athletes are bright? We as a society have our priorities all messed up. That we should even care what some of these guys spew is beyond comprehension. That we cherish, pay pro athletes, more than the nurses that take care of us or the teachers that educate us is a reflection on our own stupidity. A great percentage of athletes couldn't compete in the academic world and we pay attention to their dribble. Opinions are like the lower end of the large bowel; everyone has one. Whether we agree or disagree Luke is entitled to his. We also have a right to consider him an imbecile.

Okay so they bring an expert in to attest to its authenticity.

Now will he and others asay the expert was paid off.

It will NEVER end when people are born judgemental. Look in the mirror to answer the accusations you make of others. This is normally where this starts.

Luke should shut his yap about the birth certificate and spend more time in the batting cage. He is hitting like he was born in Kenya and learned how to hit there.

It would be nice if clearly liberal biased columnists would stop harping on Luke Scotts views. He has a right to question a documents validity if he wishes, thats his perogative. How about we stick to the topic of baseball instead of Luke's views on Obama's birth place. If the certificate is fake, its fake, if its real its real. It is clear that there has been contraversy surrounding the family living in Kenya and suddenly appearing in Hawaii. If some wish to question the document so be it. Point being Luke Scott is a great baseball player so how about we talk about his HR's and RBI's not promote other political agendas.

althought I'm a strong believer in free speech, but why is he on the tam with those types of shared thoughts. The paper runs a poll about Mendenhall, and we got a wacko in our own ball park.
Baltimore Media is SOFT !

Just giving his opinion, not making up untrue stories like some people. Free speech right?

Can we just let this thing go??? Pleeeeeeeeeeeease! I am sick of rehashing the political views of guys who play a game for a living. It only prompts them say more stupid stuff. This is America and Luke Scott and Rashard Mendenhall are entitled and free to express thier political views,- whether we agree or not. They can say what the ywant, but why do we listen and respond?

Why do we have to spend weeks talking about them. There is nothing in either of thier backgrounds that qualifies them as political analysts. They have no DC insider info. These guys get paid millions of dollars to play a game. Can we just stick to what they get paid to do?

Thank you.

Luke is entitled to his opinion, and yes in fact even in these depressing times, he is indeed aloud to speak his mind.

many of us still don't believe this is truly his birth certificate until it is proven to be legitimate.
How hard would it be for the president of the United States to have someone forge a document for him?

heck, John Q Forger will do it for you or me for a couple grand.

I say something is fishy when 3 years ago wait 3 months ago, wait 3 weeks ago the man refused to show anyone the document, and now poof there it is...

I have as much faith in this as I had when Tagliabue said that he was pulling for Baltimore to get an expansion team...

Kevin, how Luke Scott feels about the anointed one is none of your business

You in the media should get off his back, Luke Scott is entitled to his opinion just like everyone else in the country. When he's up to bat I seriously doubt the Pres. is on his mind.

With that said, I'm not defending the views he expresses, just his right to express them. Turn on Fox News and you'll even crazier theories.

He wouldn't keep talking about it if you guys wouldn't keep asking him about it.

its simply embarrassing to read something like this and have it associated with the O's

If the press would quit asking, Luke would quit talking. Put the blame where it belongs.

Luke Scott is starting to piss me off. His quest for validation of the Long Form Birth Certificate is beyond ridiculous. I would have more respect for him if he plainly stated what his real objections are to Barack Obama being the president of the United States. Hiding behind birth certificates is cowardly.

Hey Kevin,

Time for the media people like yourself to let it go too. Perhaps if it wasnt brought up to him by someone for an interview it wouldnt be an issue.

In my opinion the media is just as reponsible for this as the "birthers".

Proof yet again that you don't need a brain to perform the "Me hit ball far" routine. So, if this was some kind of massive conspiracy to put a non-citizen into the White House, wouldn't they have faked the birth certificate at an earlier time? Hmmm??????

I mean, if it's so easy to fake a document, Dufus, why didn't they do it to begin with? You mean to tell me this was a massive operation that began 50 years ago, and ended with a Muslim operative achieving the highest office IN THE WORLD, and they forgot to forge the birth certificate?

REALLY???

I can see a bunch of shady operatives in a smoke-filled room clapping themselves on the forehead, "Duh! We forgot the birth certificate!!"

Go on Luke, keeping making yourself look dumber. You, like every other moron in the world, have a RIGHT to be a moron. It's protected under free speech. Grab that idiot Mendenhall and see if the two of you can prove the moon landings were faked too.

The really sorry thing here? Obama's mother is a citizen of the US. So no matter where he was born, he would automatically be a citizen.

Some of you are blaming the media for asking him? That is nuts. What he needs to do is answer these questions with a reasonable answer. I would say he needs to shut his mouth before he makes himself look like a complete idiot, too late!

It's like this - Luke and the charlatans masquerading as journalists deserve one another. However, we do not deserve them.

There is no justice in this world.

Why don't you ask about Donald Trump dropping it, or Jeremy Corsi whose book is due out in 10 days. Stop picking on Luke, there are millions who have the same questions. Just stop asking, or do you have nothing to write about ?

Jack Lee is right on the money. Luke Scott is playing you reporters for the fools that you are.

When Scott hits .300 with 40 HRs and 115 RBI's, he can say anything he wants. Until then, I don't want to hear from him...unless he wants to be true to his right wing instincts and renounce his membership in the MLBPA.

What a ridiculous statement. If he was hitting 300 with 40 HRs and 115 RBI's, you would still complain about his views.

Luke Scott is a MORON,as are the rest of the so called "birthers"! get a grip people. But as long as Luke is in an Orioles uniform I will root for him. G-d bless America.

Ferg Deluxe, you forgot to learn the constitution, genius. In order to be eligible to be POTUS, you need to be a natural born citizen. Born on American soil. The real issue here, whether you like his opinion or not, is the fact that he is entitled to it. Just as you are entitled to ignore him.

" Proof yet again that you don't need a brain to perform the "Me hit ball far" routine. So, if this was some kind of massive conspiracy to put a non-citizen into the White House, wouldn't they have faked the birth certificate at an earlier time? Hmmm??????"

Not if they were smart, why risk having someone check documents if you can get away with not showing them? Hmmm
No one said anything about it being a "conspiracy to a put non-citizen into the White House"

" I mean, if it's so easy to fake a document, Dufus, why didn't they do it to begin with?"

How Naive can you be to not believe that document forgery exists and is in fact rampant throughout the world?

The point here is that it is possible and the document should be tested as should ALL of the documents by ALL of the candidates.

Bottom line: Luke Scott is entitled to his opinion... If you do not want to hear his opinion, don't ask for it....

@SteveinBoston:

So, wait, are we acting like Nazis or Communists? I'm confused.

Another right-wing, religious fanatic demanding proof of something... pretty ironic.

YOU ARE 100% CORRECT!! THE JOURNALISTS CAN'T GIVE IT UP! THEY KEEP ASKING THE QUESTIONS! And he's gonna tell you how he feels, and I can elaborate on why he feels that way. Hmmm, maybe because it's really shady who the president affiliates himself with, for example, Bill Ayers, a former bomb-setting anti war radical from the 1960s! Oh yea let's not forget about Anita Dunn the czar President Obama appointed. What was it she said? Oh yea, comparing her two favorite philosophers mother theresa, Mao Tse-Tung. A lot of people don't realize that Mao was responsible for MORE DEATHS THEN HITLER!!!!

LUKE SCOTT IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE
OF A REPUBLICATION NOT LIVING IN
A FACT-BASED WORLD. EVERYBODY
IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION
BUT NOT TO THEIR OWN FACTS.

Time for you guys to let the birth certificate thing go, it is getting old. We will never know anyway.
