Showalter rumors fly hot and heavy
Another day, another report that Buck Showalter will be named the Orioles new manager -- and soon.
Today mlb.fanhouse is reporting that a source familiar with the organization says Showalter is expected to take over as the new manager of the Orioles Saturday or Sunday.
On the other hand, the report also quotes another unnamed source as saying "nothing is imminent."
Showalter has managed the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers and is 882-833 in those stints, a winning percentage of .514.
The Orioles have also interviewed Bobby Valentine, Eric Wedge and popular broadcaster Rick Dempsey to fill the job.

Showalter is a great choice IMHO but I do feel for Juan Samuel. What would your guess be for Juan, Kevin? Bench Coach maybe. Showalter has been reported as saying good things about Juan.

I think the Ravens likely will have a new coach before the Orioles name a new manager. Turtles move faster then the Os do.

What about Davey Johnson?!?!
Since Samuel has made this team watchable again there shouldn’t be any rush. The 1927 Yankees would be hard pressed to get this team near .500. I was a big more hopeful that more than 4 people would be interviewed, especially when two of those interviews were out of professional respect (Valentine speaking with the team and the team speaking with Dempsey). There were between 10-20 other seemingly legitimate names that people threw out there that we never heard anything more on. Did these recent talks between Angelos and Ripken have anything to do with the job? Were any other candidates politely excused by the team or themselves? It wouldn’t be hard to admit to that without being disrespectful. Or would it?
Don’t get me wrong even if you interview 50 people Showalter may still be the guy, he’s near the top of everyone’s list, I just don’t think we should rush this without exploring every possible option. We’ve got till February after all. Is there something I’m missing? Are we trying to get him before the 2nd half managerial firings start?
If he does come onboard I’ll be VERY proud of him. It’s not an easy job, and kudos to him for trying to light a candle rather than curse the darkness.

Poor Rick...The guy deserves a shot at the job.

I think Juan deserves a longer stint. I like his style ALOT!

Fire Showalter, Hire Dempsey. The fact that Angelos has more interest in hiring ex-Yankee managers than ex-Oriole greats shows how far this organization has fallen and how inept the owner is.
Fire Showalter.

Before fans get too upset about the hiring of a former Yankee to manage the Orioles, they might want to look at the record.
Two of the Orioles three world championships were by teams managed by former Yankees -- Hank Bauer and Joe Altobelli.
Also, a local favorite to the the job -- Rick Dempsey -- came to the Orioles from the Yankees.

I'm pretty sure that Joe Altobelli initially managed the San Francisco Giants. I can't recall a Yankee connection with him.

well if i remember correctly Rick Dempsey was World Series MVP with the O's. he deserves a shot to mange this team and if you cut him open he'd bleed black and orange. (i don't know him personally that's just what i think)
enough with the Yankee loving from Planet Angelos, enough is enough.
