Reimold a portrait of despair last night
Nolan Reimold, much as I like him, is the very definition of a ballplayer who's pressing so much his head's about to explode.
The Orioles leftfielder looks lost at the plate. He's batting .205 after last night's 5-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners.
And watching him butcher Rob Johnson's RBI single to left in the fifth inning just made you cringe.
First he bobbled the ball at his feet, then he couldn't find it as he frantically felt around for it and another run scored.
Maybe it was the wet, dreary night, maybe it was all the empty seats in Camden Yards, maybe it was the Orioles taking another beating in this nightmare of a season so far.
But seeing Reimold kick that ball around, a look of utter frustration on his face, was one of the saddest sights you'll ever see at the ballpark.
Expect the Orioles to make a roster move or two real soon. I'll be shocked if Reimold isn't sent down to Triple A Norfolk.
Right now it would be the best thing in the world for him.

But he has to be on the roster when they give out his mini bobblehead on May 26th! LOL. Oh its been a laughable 13 years here in B-more...

I disagree, I think they should stick with him. He has had success at this level, let him work through this rough patch. Bringing up C-Patt & demoting Montanez makes more sense. C-Patt gives us a backup CF which inexplicably isn’t on the roster at this point. C-Patt could also help relieve Reimold AND Jones against righties from time to time. C-Patt also brings some speed for pinch running, etc

Send him down and let him get his swing back together. Send several others with him - Luke Scott, Julio Lugo, Adam Jones. Let them all get their problems worked out at the AAA level, and at the same time get the message that if you don't produce, you don't stay in the major league. Bring up Patterson, Gaithright, Moore, and Turner. Send Hernandez down too, and bring back Tillman. There's a message for the AAA guys too. Play well and up you come.

I left the ballpark after that 5th inning play. I never have left a game so early.

I agree Kevin. But Mr Jones needs to visit the Tidewater region too for the rest of this season. Gathwright and Patterson can play as well or bad as Reimold and Jones.
Jones is simply a clown. Masquerading as a major league player. Needs to learn strike zone. Not sure its possible at his age.
Needs to get off the gum.
Kid needs humbling in a big way.

And you forgot the part where he threw it into the cut-off man instead of directly to second base, allowing the hitter to advance to second.
Hitting the cut-off man would have been the right play if there were still a play at the plate, but his error removed that possibility. He had a very real chance to cut down the batter advancing to 2nd, but he looked so upset with himself that I don't think he ever stopped to think. Too bad; I hope he goes down and gets things straightened out because I still have a lot of faith in him.

what the what???? the dude dropped the ball and then had trouble getting a handle.
"one of the saddest sights you'll ever see at the ballpark"
huh?
i remember when sun sports reporters were actually insightful, not necessarily inflammatory, or in this case, just plain weird

Why do you pick out Riemold? You can put in Jones, Markakis, Isturis, Lugo, Atkins, and any number of pitchers who are lost souls. There is nothing to be excited about watching this insanely inept team. There is no life in this team and that comes straight from the management of the team.

I couldn't agree more. Even though Jones had some good at bats last night he could probably use a trip down as well if he doesn't improve.

Suppose Reimold's bus stops at Bowie?

A roster move or two? Are you kidding us. Should be a roster move or SIX. Keeping, and signing, useless talent makes no sense. When will it end???
When the Big "A" decides to get out, that's when....

Odd how someone "lost at the plate" still manages to keep a good approach, not swing at bad pitches and take his walks. I guess the guys not "lost at the plate" are the ones swinging at all those sliders in the dirt.
Nolan isn't hitting well but he isn't lost. I would link you to a fangraphs writeup about Nolan but I don't think you would be bothered to read it.

I've been watching and rooting for the Orioles since 1966.
The posters here have no clue HOW CLOSE THIS TEAM IS to turning around.
For the first time in 20+ years we have solid young pitching. Bergesen and Matusz; you know the others. There is hope!

Reimold was 5 / 16 during his last week with the Orioles. There were a lot of players struggling more than him. If the major league coaches can't help a young player work thru his issues, they are part of the problem.
