Another painful night in Arlington
Two things in particular were hard to watch during the Orioles 4-3 loss to the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark last night.
One was reliever Koji Uehara's sideburns.
He's a nice guy, but those might be the ugliest sideburns in the history of facial hair. It looks like he glued a couple of garden stakes to the sides of his head.
Speaking of Koji, isn't it about time baseball comes up with a new rule about how many times you're allowed to take off your hat to wipe your head while pitching?
MASN broadcaster Gary Thorne pointed out how often Koji was doing this last night. And once you started paying attention to it, it drove you crazy.
Then there was Adam Jones' ugly throw following Nelson Cruz's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning that scored Michael Young and gave the Rangers the win.
Sure, Young has some wheels. Even a perfect throw might not have nailed him.
But we'll never know, since Jones' throw was high and way up the third base line.
So instead of having a slim chance of cutting down Young, the Orioles had no chance.
And what followed was the predictable camera shot of the downcast Orioles gathering up their equipment and filing out of the dugout.
It's a shot we've seen way to many times this season.

when will this team play as a team? One night its the offense and the next night it's the defense and the next night its the pitching. These guys have got to get playing as one unit! They play like like segmented pieces of a team. Like they don't even know each other. mcfail needs to go find some new players b/c these guys are not getting it done.

It must have been really painful for you since Jim Hunter did the broadcast, not Gary Thorne.

Hunter called the game last night, not Thorne. Thorne wouldnt have noticed
Is Uehara's ridiculous burns a violation of the clubs lame facial hair policy? Also, whats up w/ Koji's conditioning? He could barely give us an inning. Trembley running him back out there was a mistake even if it didnt cost us. He was done....we were lucky to escape unscathed
Jones did what he could. Young has decent speed, there was no way Jones could get him from that distance. He fired a laser home but he had to put everything he had into it without any regard for accuracy. He did what he had to do from that distance

Adam Jones has been a disappointment in more ways than one. I wish he'd get rid of the bubble gum and just concentrate on the game.

As baseball sideburns go, Kerry Ligtenberg's were the dumbest. He seemed to be more occupied with grooming those razors than with his pitching. What a diva!
