One big, dysfunctional family

And you thought the Cleveland Browns were a mess? With the over-bearing coach who fines players a thousand bucks for not paying for water bottles and the imploding quarterbacks and a roster dotted with whiners and malingerers?

OK, fine. But did you get a load of what's happening with the Oakland Raiders, the Ravens opponent Sunday? The Raiders make the Browns look like the Von Trapps, they're so miserable.

Forget the fact that their coach, Tom Cable, apparently slugged an assistant coach earlier in the year and broke his jaw. Forget the fact that Cable's been accused of violence toward women in his past. Forget the fact he might be fired any day now because of the Raiders dreary 5-10 record.

With one game left in the season, Cable's still making friends and influencing people all around the Raiders locker room.

At his news conference Monday after the Raiders 23-9 loss to Cleveland a day earlier, Cable was asked if the team would have made the playoffs if quarterback JaMarcus Russell had turned in an average or better performance this year.

"Without even asking that question, you know that we would have," he answered, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Sure, Cable went on to call Russell "a really, really classy kid" and later added "I'm convinced he has the tools" to become a great quarterback.

But the damage was already done. JaMarcus Russell was thrown under the bus. Then Cable backed the bus up and ran over him again.

Charlie Frye will probably start at quarterback for the Raiders against the Ravens.

JaMarcus Russell will probably be dialing a shrink.

The Raiders motto used to be: Just win, baby.

Now it's apparently: "Just point fingers."

What a team.

Call the Raiders all the names you want to. It will not help the Ravens win on Sunday. You can book it.

Gee...given the meddling owner, the streak of losing seasons, the general player discontent, you could almost argue that they're the Orioles of the NFL.

sounds like an even match-up !

To be honest, this is the only game the Ravens will play this year where I'm totally confident of them winning. I just think there is too much on the line for them to crash and burn in Oakland. You can Book this one too.

LOL!
Wow this is coming from the Original Brownies! Let see……..Eagles, Cinci, Steelers and Broncos! I think the Ravens are next! The Raiders will be more then happy to send your boys home for the season. Real Funny, just like Tampa Bay last year!

dude, i have ONE question for you. HOW MANY SUPERBOWL TROPHIES DOES YOUR TEAM HAVE MORON?

until you catch and pass us with our 3, i'd shut my pie hole if i were you.

Glad you Raven fans feel so sure about winning. I was at the Raider game against Cinncy. There were plenty of Cinncy fans there wearing their colors. And talking plenty of smack and yes they went home with their tails tucked between their legs. Look at the Raiders wins this year. All the wins came against teams with winning records. So don't take anything for granted. Your D is still good but they are getting old and we have some real fast receivers. So beware!!!

Happy New Year to everyone!!!

scorpio, until you can put back-to-back winning seasons together, I'd shut my pie hole if I were you.

RE:"we have some real fast receivers. So beware!!!"

Yea, we're familiar with your 6th round draft pick this year and how fast he is!
I.E., DHB did come from U of M.

I'm a big fan of his from his U of M days, but...
I'm also also aware of his very "hard" hands, so it'll be a while before you can count on him consistently.

He wasn't worth a 6th round pick.

Scorpio,

How many years have the Raiders been in the league? And how many years have the Ravens been in the league?

Nuff said.

Yeah, the Raiders have defeated some good teams, but they still have no chance to make the playoffs. Does not matter who you win against, it's how many wins you have. And the Raider have very few. Maybe next year guys.
