The Tiger Woods car-crash story keeps getting wilder and wilder. And the crazy -- or not so crazy -- speculation will continue as long as he keeps ducking police investigators and refusing to come clean about what happened in the early morning hours outside his Isleworth, Fla. estate last Friday.

 Big-name athletes -- and by extension, all celebrities -- never learn. Address the story early -- and honestly -- and it'll go away in a few days. Keep trying to cover your tracks and the rumors fan like wildfire.

 The hot rumor being fueled by the tabloids, of course, is that Tiger's wife, Elin, might have been chasing him with a golf club because of alleged infidelities. But who knows if this is true?

 Now, according to TMZ.com, the Florida Highway patrol is reportedly seeking a search warrant for hospital records documenting Tiger's post-crash treatment. The cops want to know if the injuries he suffered came from the accident or from domestic violence.

 Tiger's got the build of a welterweight boxer with linebacker shoulders. So the idea of tiny Elin Woods smacking him around -- with or without a golf club -- sounds ludicrous.

On the other hand, the idea that a 3-iron could do some major damage to a 2009 Cadillac Escalade -- or any other car for that matter -- is indisputable.

Tiger should get it over with and tell us what happened to leave him bleeding and bruised that morning. And for his sake, he should do it sooner than later.

The longer he waits, the more the media feeding frenzy gets out of hand.

And that's never good for a superstar like Tiger. So far he's able to guard his privacy and maintain his squeeky-clean image.

 But all that may be about to change.
