"The Bank" turns into a chapel
Let's come right out and say it: in the final seconds of the Ravens' 17-15 loss to the Indianapolis Colts Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium was as quiet as I've ever heard it.
Ever.
Even the drunks seemed to have the life sucked out of them. They guzzled the last of their Budweisers and shuffled forlornly to the exits like everybody else.
This was another ugly loss and yet it seemed even more disheartening to Ravens fans, because they realized the great Peyton Manning and the Colts had had an off-day and the Ravens had failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity.
And the depressing fact that their team could not punch the ball in for a touchdown in the fourth quarter with three tries from the Indy 1-yard line was still making the radio talk-show phone lines burn up hours later.
Good-bye playoff hopes, was the general fan sentiment.
Another good team, the 6-4 Pittsburgh Steelers, comes to Baltimore next Sunday. Ravens fans will be back at M&T Bank Stadium. And they'll be loud -- at the beginning of the game, at least.
But will they still be roaring at the end?
They sure weren't yesterday.
And no one could blame them.
