Adam Eaton for president!

And you wanted to run Adam Eaton out of town? Let's convene an emergency session of the city council. Where should we erect a statue of this guy?

7.1 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 9 Ks -- that's a line Orioles fans can live with.

With last night's performance -- which surprised everyone at Camden Yards except for Eaton and Orioles manager Dave Trembley -- the right-hander's ERA is down to 7.04. By this rate, it'll be below 6.00 by the All-Star break.

Eaton was quick and consistent. Seventy-four of his 102 pitches were for strikes. And when he left the game in the eighth inning -- Eaton's longest outing in nearly two years -- he received a standing ovation. It was well-deserved, though maybe the least surprising part of the night. Most fans were planning to stay late anyway, figuring they could meet Eaton in the parking lot afterward and help drive him out of town.

But Eaton will be here a bit longer. And if he can repeat last night's performance a couple of more times, he'll be here a lot longer.

"It felt great," he said later. "It's been a long time since I have had that, and it felt very good."

It felt good for him -- but great for most fans.

blind squirrel finds a nut every so often, do it a few more times and i'll gain a SLIGHT bit of respect for the guy. for the sake of the team i hope he proves everyone wrong....but i wouldn't bet on it.

That was one of the funniest blogs I have ever read. Great stuff!

Good for Eaton, see if he can move forward from this one and have more success down the road. Fact is he was 5 outs away from completing a game for the first time since 2003 and pitched ahead in the count almost on every hitter was excellent, now he needs to back it up, with another good start.

Oh No! Adam Eaton had a good outing and Felix Pie had 2 hits!!! Hopefully their performances last night doesnt cloud the fans judgement about calling up all the kids from the minors! If they keep this up fans will want to let them stay in the minors and gain the valuable experience they need!! We cant have that!!!

There was a time when newspaper copyeditors would have considered the word "suck" hardly more acceptable than a word only one alphabetic degree to its left. Kudos to The Sun for recognizing that sometimes the imperative to make a funny overrules all other concerns.

And the "Hope" poster is just icing on the cake. Go O's!

Although I tend to agree with a poster on another blog that Eaton and Pie's performances could signal the Apocolypse, I do have one other player that comes to mind..Steve Stone. He was a mediocre pitcher at best, had one good yr and then sunk back into Neverland. I don't think Eaton will come close, but boy, what a treat it would be if this was the yr Eaton won 12-13 games and had his "career" yr.

Regardless, once Tillman and Arrieta are called up in September, Eaton won't be pitching very much anymore. But until then, I hope he does well.

Re: Oriole1952's remarks about Steve Stone, I witnessed his heyday season of 1980 when he went 25-7...and I believe he went 4-7 in 1981. Difference between Stone and Eaton is that I know Stone had a devastating curveball...in fact, a number of curveballs, but nothing else. I remember he said of his 1980 Cy Young award season, "I knew I was throwing tomorrow's curveballs today," but figured, why settle for a few more
12-12 type seasons when he could skip the mediocrity go for the blaze-o'- glory...you can't throw 85% curveballs every game and not blow out your elbow which is exactly what Stoney did. Now if Eaton has one incredible out pitch (I see alot of references to his cutter), I don't know what it is. Actually, I was thinking that maybe Eaton could be more like Dennis Eckersley...so-so starter but became monster reliever. I saw him fan a mess of Tampa Bay Rays at Oriole Park and thought, you know, he could be pretty tough for an inning or two. One to grow on...

Maybe Guthrie can take a cue from Eaton's approach the this game and quit trying to be so cute/fine with his approach. You hate to see a power pitcher playing around with other pitches, throwing balls and getting behind, then either giving up walks or getting hammered cause they have to put one over. Simplify it Jeremy, you're outsmarting yourself!

Rick, you sure change your mind quickly. One day you're writing about how we need to drop the veterans and call up all the prospects, the next day day you're shouting "All Hail Eaton!"

Let's be patient with the young guys. We're not going to compete this year so let's bring them up when they're ready. This is exactly why we have guys like Eaton in our rotation.

To clarify, I don't really think we should erect a statue. I apologize for any confusion. --Maese
