A little more on Troy Smith

On AOL Sports, the Heisman Trophy winner did a pre-draft Q&A with Dave Hollander, who is, among other things, a co-author of the Princeton Review's guide to the best law schools. It appears that Hollander is also a big Ohio State fan, and was intrigued with the imbalance of attention paid to Smith and Brady Quinn throughout their college careers and in the weeks leading up to the draft.

It also appears, in this interview, that Smith doesn't care much for people who call themselves "experts'': "It's incredible how many people are literally in the world and how every single person in the world has an opinion as to what's going on. But we choose to listen to somebody who says they are an 'expert' in something but who makes no sense and has no kind of real information on anything they're talking about.''

And, according to the Web site's poll, Smith was drafted lower than expected, by at least two rounds.

Last but not least: I request that you take a look at the previous post, from yesterday. It's been a little hard for the question to get much prominent play on The Sun Web site, so we'll ask it again here, and offer today's column as more to ponder: Does the Patriots' acquisition of Randy Moss scare you, or do you still think the Ravens are as much of a threat to make it past them and get to the Super Bowl as before?

OK, first thing's first: how much less attention could Troy Smith have suffered compared to Brady Quinn? Troy Smith won the Heisman trophy! Secondly, not to be a wet blanket, but please consider: Ted Ginn, Anthony Gonzalez, Antonio Pittman, Roy Hall and Doug Datish. All were Smith's teammates on offense at Ohio State; all got drafted this weekend. The point? Smith had mega talent around him (Quinn had two teammates drafted). Finally, New England scares the stuffing out of me. Personally, i think the QB is their weak spot. Seriously, New England lost to Denver two years ago because of Tom Brady, and they lost to Indy last year because of Tom Brady.

Actually, my feelings haven't really changed about the Patriots at all. They're a guarenteed 13-win team before the draft, possibly 14-15 (16 if you're really bold) and the draft helped them. The addition of Moss doesn't really affect my feelings about the Pats in any way.

I like the Ravens getting Troy Smith. I think he can be a starter down the road, a long road. The Pats dont scare me. Remeber what happend to Redskins got Bruce and Sanders. Also when the Lakers loaded up on superstars for a run and nothing every happened. At least the Ravens have team chemsitry.

Honestly, I'd love to see Troy Smith as a running back. He's fast, strong, and elusive.

Randy Moss could have one of his best years with new England. He's certainly an upgrade from Branch, considering how important as he was to the New England offence. And Belichick won't put up with Moss's his crap for split second.

He won't have to either, because Moss couldn't be happier.

More important, Brady is probably dancing in the streets as we speak.

Plus, if you add our Adaleus Thomas to the mix, I see the Patriots in the running to win the Superbowl. I wish I had more confidence in McNair, but I just don't see him making it through the whole season.

For all those (Patrick) that want to point out the talent that Smith with. Need to look at who the two teams played. OSU played a top 10 schedule as far as strength of schedule. Notre Dame played next no one and got Qinn played terrible every time they did play someone. take a look at that....

The Patriots are the premadonna's of the league... of course they're favored to reach the SuperBowl, they always are. So they aquired Randy Moss, they also aquired a whole bunch of nasty to go along with it. Does Randy really think that he is going to be "numero ono" on a team that is consistantly know for spreading the ball across the field? Does he really believe that with all of the other talent at wideout that 'HE" is going to be the only game in town? And when has Tom Brady ever been known as a deep passing threat? Brady has made a career off of the short screen pass and will continue to do so despite Randy Moss. All of that aside Moss hasn't been worth the time of day since he talked his way out of Minnisota and away from Daunte Culpepper.
Mike Mayock nailed it yesterday when he chided the NFL Network staff for allowing themselves to get side tracked away from the draft and "all wrapped up in Moss."
Was it a good deal for New England? Abosolutly, but one guy won't win a Super Bowl, and Baltimore won't make the same mistake twice...

Frist Off, About Troy Smith you can say what you want about the guy, but the truth of the matter is that he is a winner. and he sounds like a guy who wants to learn. troy smith is around nothing but winners and he will be a good pro because he is the type of guy who wants to learn and wants to win. and he will have a big chip on his shoulder. there is no dought in my mind this guy will be a good pro. and the great thing about this is troy smith wont be throwin into the fire, he will have two years to learn..

and far as the pats.. they are a very good team... but with that being said no team scares me, why? because no team scares the ravens. they tell you, you have to worry about us..

Ginn, Gonzalez and Pittman are leaving early in part because Troy is leaving. Ohio State only lost three senior starters total off of the offense, and four from the defense of a team that played for the national title. Troy was the catalyst of the offense. The team absolutely loved him for his athleticism, skill, heart and intelligence. The numbers game that is the NFL draft does not add up to Troy being the ninth best QB in the draft but lucky for him he is in a far better position in Baltimore than Brady is in Cleveland.
