Little Sarge, big mess?
From today's Albany (N.Y.) Times-Union:
"ORLANDO, Fla. -- A downtown pharmacy was raided by a law enforcement task force on Tuesday, the climax of a large New York state grand jury investigation into Internet drug sales that could expose widespread illicit steroid use by professional athletes and thousands of people across the nation.''
OK. So, like, who? Gimme some names. A real name. Someone we'd recognize.
"The customers include Los Angeles Angels center fielder Gary Matthews Jr., according to sources with knowledge of the investigation.''
C'mon, David, not ex-Orioles outfielder Gary Matthews Jr., who never panned out here but went on to become an All-Star in Texas and then sign a five-year, $50 million free-agent contract?
Yup, that one.
As well as Evander Holyfield, a team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and - YIKES! - Jose Canseco. And - double YIKES! - Jason Grimsley.

David,
Interesting with all of the (much deserved) scrutiny that baseball is receiving on performance enhancing drugs, how does the NFL get a free pass? We had the situtation in Carolina a couple of years ago, now if these accusatons are true, the Steelers team doc, members of the Eagles, Redskins, and so on.
And we're to believe that all of these linemen are 6'4" 330 lbs by nature and hard work?!
Good to have you back blogging, David!

The obvious reaction to Matthews Jr would be that figures. He has a career year in his free agent year at an age where that seldoms happen. Maybe he isn't guilty but it sure looks bad. Maybe one day players will get caught and the contracts will be void for fraud.
On another topic its nice to see MD basketball (men's) recover and probably make the tournament. One thing that I was shocked to see was their schedule difficulty, or should I say the lack of difficulty.
I moved out of MD a few years ago but MD usually played a rough out of conference schedule and had a very high RPI. I don't know what their RPI is but they have only played games against 4 ranked teams and all are ACC. Not a single game out of the conference against a team currently in the top 25.
