"O'' No
Just read colleague Rick Maese's reports about Miguel Tejada, and two things popped into my head. First: he gets to spend New Year's in Santo Domingo, and I'm spending mine in Cleveland? What's up with that? Who did I tick off?
Second: the Baseball Town/Football Town question I posted earlier today is about to become even more relevant. The consensus reply has been, this would be more of a baseball town had the owner not run the franchise into the ground the past decade. Now, Tejada has firmed up his objections to what's going on with the Orioles, and his insistence on playing where he can win, hint-hint. Meanwhile, the Tejada-for-Manny-and-Clement talks go on. I can see it already: when they trade away the MVP, the Orioles will shrug and say, "What could we do? He didn't want to be here, we had to make the best deal we could.''
Of course, if they'd done anything to make Tejada want to stay - like, maybe, improving the team, keeping up with the Blue Jays or telling him "We want you to stay'' - he'd want to stay. But as they say, that train done left the station.

The questions being batted around here afford me the opportunity to ask a few of my own.
I ask them sincerely, so please, homies don't get any more defensive than you already are.
I moved here six years ago. There are many things I love about this place. Would I still be here if i didn't?
Why are the natives here so imbued with an interiority complex that seems to know no bounds?
It's a great town, but moreover, I've yet to come across anyone anywhere with a negative opinion of the place. Unless unaware of its existence is negative.
Why this blind loyalty to BOTH the Orioles and Ravens that leads to a barrage of excuses when either stinks up the field of play?
Even talk radio sounds like parents who are in denial about their juvenile delinquent kid.
Maybe some of you would be happier if you took a page of two from a newcomer's guidebook.
First, think of this as the Baltimore/D.C. Metro Area.
In that context, we live in a fantastic- if somewhat spread out-city. If the Orioles suck, how about them Nats with the greatest Oriole of them all at the helm?
If the Ravens bore you to tears, the Skins may be the most entertaining team in the league. Football can be more exciting than a chess match.
Get the idea?
People in Baltimore really should enhance their awareness of the choices before them. Not only will this melt away frustration, it just might build a fire under the powers that be in Oriole and Raven land. As long as they can take the fan base for granted, winning really isn't all that important.
Choice makes things better. Think about it.

Good grief, the Orioles signed Jeromy Burnitz! Sheesh, what more does Tejada want? Get a grip, Miggy!

Joe, with all respect, you didn't have to say you were from out of town. Simply suggesting that Baltimore fans should embrace the Redskins would have been enough.
I was an Oriole fan for thirty years. I mailed a letter rejecting my season tickets back when Albert Belle was signed. And yes, I am probably more of a Nats fan than Orioles, what with the Orioles being defunct as an organization (much like the Colts. Indy has a great team, but it's a shame they had to kill the Colts to start up that totally new franchise there back in 84. But I digress.)
In one of the best things Tom Clancy ever wrote, he said simply "I'd sell my sons to gypsies before letting them become Redskins fans."
