Orioles: The new Duke

There's going to be a lot of discussion about the wisdom of hiring former Boston Red Sox GM Dan Duquette to replace Andy MacPhail as the Orioles new head of baseball operations, but one thing is not in doubt.

Duquette is no puppet. He was always a very strong presence and personality in the Red Sox organization and he'll put his stamp on this team. He may not have been the first choice, but he's a solid guy with all the elements of experience the Orioles were looking for.

What will be interesting to see is the chemistry that will develop with manager Buck Showalters. They are both strong personalities who are pretty confident in their vision of how to run a baseball team. That dynamic could be a big plus in getting Peter Angelos on board with what they want to do -- once the come to a consensus themselves.

Can't wait to see how this develops.

New name............

same ole...... last place is last place is last place is last place is last place.

BOOK IT

Recycled GM. Recycled stories of how great he is going to be. Recycled 5th place finish in the Eastern Division. Recycled batting practice pitchers starting games again. Recycled Kevin Gregg blowing yet another save. Nothing is ever new or complete; just recycled for yet another season of 90+ losses.

Here's hoping Dan will duke it out with PA and get some real money for some real players. We can't have another GM who will just duck and run every time PA rumbles.

Well Pete once again the Oriole faithfull who are dwindling in number are putting our hearts on the line hoping a new GM/VP will have the stones to face Angelos down and bring us a winning team.It seems as if free agents and front office guys are all scared off from this organization. It's a tough sell to get this current fan base to believe this guy is the answer. Especially since we've been let down what 14 to 15 years now. What's the definition of insanity, doing the same things over and over expecting different results? The Duke has a great track record but he's never worked for Angelos.

I hope Dan Duquette can convince Peter Angelos to get rid of Dave Stockstill. It hasn't been widely reported, but Dave Stockstill is a cancer in the organization. Rumor has it that Stockstill got Angelos out of some hot water years ago, and has been a sacred cow ever since. a series Orioles' GMs have tried to fire him but Angelos wouldn't allow it. No wonder nobody wanted the GM job.

duke duke duke
duke of O's duke duke
duke of O's duke duke
duke of O's duke duke

Everybody sing..........

New lyrics coming soon

Pete's reply: Heeeeeeeeeeee's back! Got to admit, I'm a bit nostalgic.

So seriously, Pete, are you really letting Wayne back on here? That desperate for readers and comments these days? Way to stand up to him. Well, I guess you can't kill a blog twice.

Pete's reply: I'm sorry buddy, but I was being facetious, and you can't high-hat me when you misspell the word "moron." Even if you correct it and send it again.

Yeah, you were being facetious...while letting him post twice. Go ahead, invite that loser back on your blog. That'll really make people pay to read it.

Wait wait wait... hold the phone...

Baltimore still has a baseball team?
I thought they checked out 14 years ago.

"moran" detector...LMAO

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
