Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in
The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.

#86 is the only jersey I own and I intend on wearing it for many years to come to recognize Heap's time in B'more, as well as b/c of what you said- jerseys ain't cheap.

If Todd had moved more quickly, he could have been Heath Miller's backup in Pittsburgh.

The Ravens will regret letting Heap and Mason go. I do not believe the Ravens will have as good a season as last year. I see too many holes on both the O-line and D-line. I see a 10-6 season and that is only if Flacco stays healthy. If he goes down, so does the entire season. We have no competent backup there. The Ravens front office is really rolling the dice this year. The word around the league is to pack the box and blitz him. He is slow-footed and cannot escape the blitz. If the O-line is not shored up, it could be a long season for Mr. Flacco.

I will miss Heap, he was a good player. However, he is an injury hazard on the field, and now more because he's an older tight end. I wish the best for him in Arizona, and I'm glad we can give Pitta and Dickson a chance to grow. Dickson made some good catches last year, and Pitta has the body type where he can be an excellent blocker.

Pete -
Very off topic but does anyone in the Orioles organization understand that when the batter is in an 0-2 hole, there is no need to throw a strike? Are they so worried about pitch count that they feel they must groove the 0-2? Two homers on 0-2 pitches from Guthrie last night....where is Frank Robinson when we need him???

Out of the 4 Raven's cuts after the lockout, this one's going to hurt the most. Let's remember when they handed over the kicking job to Hauschka and chose to part company with Stover, who still had some kicks left in that leg. They could have kept both but didn't. Hauschka arguably cost the team a home playoff game (and definitely lost 2 during the season). Dixon/Pitta aren't rookies, but they might as well be. They are asking too much here. Should have kept Heap in a platoon role. Too many "rookies" at key positions on the offense.
