Orioles: Britton sore?

Zach Britton clearly looked like he felt a twinge in his side when he leapt to try and flag down Jayson Werth's inning-opening bouncer in the bottom of the first. Britton came down and seemed uncomfortable. He stretched behind the mound and then resumed pitching, throwing three straight balls to No. 2 hitter Ian Desmond before finding the strike zone again.

We'll have to just see how the next few innings play out, but with the way things have been going on the Orioles pitching staff, it doesn't take much to raise a red flag,

The good news, however, is that Jeremy Guthrie's back soreness apparently is not the result of a serious injury. The team said today that he is expected to make his next scheduled start.

Instant update: Britton appears to be fine. Has pitched through two innings and bounced out in his first major league at-bat.

Pete, will you please respectfully tell Buck to get his act together and start addressing this team's lack of plate discipline?

For the second time this game we get the first two hitters on, then follow it with a double play and a groundout. And this time, Wieters swings at ball four, then grounds ball five into a double play - and Scott immediately hacks at the first pitch to end the inning. Why can these guys not make a pitcher work? It's getting beyond disgraceful.

10 hits in 5 innings and 2 runs to show for it , another almost impossible thing to do. 2 extra base hits and the pitcher who has never hit has one of them.

but it;s not impossible for mark reynolds to keep his streak of errors going. what's that now, 15?
Hey Buck, that's crappy defense that is costing you runs. your pitcher faces 4 more hitters, the lineup turns over.

360 degrees of ugly.

Does Showalter ever give the bunt sign. It might keep the player from hitting into all those double plays

Come on dude. U watching the same games I am. Wieters is tearing the leather off the ball with runners on especially 2 outs. So he had a bad night. We are missing a another igniter in Roberts

But how about him saying to (one of my favorites tho), cmon Reynolds lets work on our D. He leads the MAJORS in errors.

Best yet. How about him speaking to the pitching coach or even Andy and saying we have got to fix this pen. Accardo, Gonzalez, a d Gregg are as bad as they get on our team this year, and many previous o es, and I wouldn't doubt ma y other teams.

Thanks Peter for letting me share. And to the OP, I value your opinion, but seem to have a slightly different, definitely equally as strong tho.

Night All

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
