Ravens: Thanks a lot, Rex

Is it just me, or did the victory by the New York Jets today make it feel like the Ravens blew the Steelers game all over again?

It's one thing to lose and have to go to Foxborough to face the team with the best record in the AFC, though I thought the Ravens had proven they could beat the Pats. It's quite another to know that a merely adequate second-half performance against the Steelers would have brought the AFC Championship Game to M&T Bank Stadium, where the Ravens would have been favored to take the final step to the Super Bowl.

I wrote a whole column for Saturday's paper saying that the Steelers game was all or nothing...that if the Ravens won they'd keep winning right on through Dallas and bring home the Lombardi Trophy. I still can't prove it, but I was right and that makes the whole weekend even harder to stomach for devastated Ravens fans.

I'm happy for Rex Ryan, but this just ain't right.

Perhaps the Jets stare the possibility of success in the eye and grab it. Maybe they have some better team chemistry, or perhaps some better coaching and a QB that's steps up. Whatever it is, they are not the Ravens. I don't like the Jets, but give them credit, they're still playing.

Seems right to me, but what makes us believe that we could have broken down the Jets D after their performance today? 10 points 4 months ago?

Now it's official. Rex Ryan is a better coach than John Harbaugh. The Jets staff is better than the Ravens staff. Mark Sanchez is better than Joe Flacco. Et al, et al, et al. We coulda been contenders, Charlie, we coulda been a champ. But we blew it. Why? Beause we're coached by unimaginative, frightened, 72nd percentile bums whithout no character, neither.

How do you think I feel? I am a season ticket holder.

Blame for this debacle falls squarely on the Biscutt. He owes the fans an apology He could have hired Rex Ryan, but he didn't like Rex's "image." Instead we have Coach Rah-Rah, his brain trust of geezer coordinators, and QB Joe Choko (BTW, this year Sanchez beat Manning, Brady twice, and Big Ben). Congratulations to Rex and the Jets - they got it done when our guys couldn't.

not to hog the microphone, but the really devastating thing about the Jets game was the way it mirrored our game, throwing up the same second half challenges: how does the underdog keep the lead, how does it continue to score, how does it keep its head intact under the pressure. Rex found the answers, Harbaugh was clueless. That throw and catch TD the Jets made early in fourth quarter was better than the best Ravens throw-cacch of any sort all year long, only they made it late in biggest game of year. We NEVER get big plays in big games, particularly late. So sad.

I'm glad for Rex. He should have been the Ravens coach and if he were we would be playing next week. The guy is a winner unlike confused Cameron and zippo Zorn. Another thing get rid of Houshmanzadeh like Belicek canned Moss. The guy moans all year and when his turn comes he drops the ball. Go play with the loser Bengals again TJ

did the ravens blow the decision of who to hire as head coach?

*ducks into fallout shelter*

Too bad we missed out on a home game against the Jets. Anybody who beats Billychek and The Haircut gets a big hoorah! Too bad...

Meltdown week is upon us!

Was Rex as obnoxious when he was our D coach as he is now?

New Yawk can have him.

The Jets took no prisoners. The Ravens? Well they got caught monologuing.

Ravens fans have too many knee jerk reactions. A lot of games we lost this season and the last three for that matter was lack of mental toughness on both side of the ball. This team plays like a ticking time bomb. As a fan you wait for that turnover, penalty, dropped pass, missed tackle, false start, etc.. It not ALL Joe's fault , in fact, in you look at the games we lost or could have won, the defense gave it away, a reciever dropped a pass, a kicker missed a makeable FG, a the blocking has been terrible. Under pressure this team fold which is dissapointing considering the number of veterans and pro bowlers. Beside the lack of speed at most positions and AS A TEAM self destructs. Every week if another guy for another reason.

Mr. BISCUTTI- REX RYAN WAS AN AMAZING COACH. YOU ARE AN idiot. Jim Harbaugh is Mr. Oneliner and cliches. " We'll be back". Sell the team or change the whole front office. Hell to pay. This team 38 yeards of offense. Harbaugh wants to retain both coordinators. Get ready for riots. Both coordinators need to go NOW.

To be honest it is impossible to say why the Ravens snatched defeat from the Jaws of victory. It could be so many things but then one has to accept reality.

Despite all but giving the game away in the third quarter they had a tie game and Pittsburgh facing a 3rd and 19 from their side of the field. Perfect setup for the Ravens to get the ball back and setup for the winning score. Well we know what happened next.

Maybe it was all a fluke. Maybe the coaching staff needs an overhaul. I really don't know and doubt anyone else does either.

Congrats to Mark Sanchez and the Jets for today's win. Just goes to show you that a little personality and character on BOTH SIDES of the ball goes a long way.

I'm sick of the Ravens not having an offensive leader. Until we find one, you can copy and paste the same story about how we couldn't pull through on a big playoff game on the road.

Thanks Joe Flacco and the Ravens offense for ruining my weekend.

Now I have to watch potentially TWO full seasons of terrible Orioles' baseball before the next Ravens' game

Rex Ryan was an excellent coach for the Ravens and is proving that he was a much better choice than John Harbaugh.....but he didn't fit Ozzie Newsome and Mr Bisciotii's image of a Corporate Iconic coaching figure....Kinda like How Troy Smith didnt fit that same image of a QB.....but in the ultra competitive NFL substance is everything and Hype is Bull@#*# / Prime Time T V appearances / increased team revenue and no superbowl appearances.....congratulations Mr Bisciotti on your corporate Ravens.....aka. the New buffalo bills......and hey Ozzie make sure you take the best available remaining player like Kruger and Flacco.......

The city of Baltimore lost millions of dollars when the Ravens lost. This week, every hotel, motel, and b&b would have been packed to the roof. Restaurants and bars would have been overloaded with N.Y. tourists.

Your a bunch of idiot crybabies. Have some fricken self respect. "we should have hired Rex, wah!" you sound like a bunch of children. Never satisfied. Harbaugh has been an excellent coach. I don't know what team you all have been following, but I have seen a team that has excelled in the 3 years since he got here. I see a team that can win anywhere in the NFL. I see a team that can play in all weather. I don't cringe when it's 3rd and long and we are on offense anymore. Quit crying and appreciate what you have. A perennial winning organization.

Stop Sean..you making too much sense for our idiot fans who think we should win the Super Bowl every year.

Remember the article that Kevin Cowherd wrote a few weeks ago about why Joe Flacco does not get respect?

Remember Jan 15 2011. It'll answer that question all the time.

I'm a Ravens fans pulling for Rex and the Jets. If they beat the Steelers, all heck is going to break loose on the Sun chat boards.

GO RAV... errr.. GO REX!!!!

Crybaby Ravens fans. Woulda,Coulda, Shooda beat the Steelers. Cry, Cry, Cry.
Remember if the Queen had nuts she coulda been the king.
CRy, Cry, Cry.

IT'S 2:00 IN THE MORNING AND i'M AWAKE BECAUSE OF COULDA SHOULDA WOULDA HOSTED THE AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. Sometimes I hate being a Ravens fan.

Yeah, Rex may be a much better coach, but he's overweight. And Harbaugh dresses better. And, he knows all the clichés, and how to talk for minutes without saying anything. And he never makes any mistakes on the sidelines because he doesn't DO anything on the sidelines. And he's not a risk taker. He likes to use a three man rush when he gets ahead. And in crucial situations he likes to send Ray Rice into the middle of the line twice in a row while Matt Birk is getting pushed backward on almost every play. And he's very loyal, which the Boy Scout motto says is a good thing. He's so loyal that he hired an old geezer, family friend who couldn't coach my high school team, rather than a good Defensive Coordinator (like Rex was and is). And he's so loyal he stuck by Cameron, even though the entire city, and even his own players thought the initials CC stood for Cam Clueless. And, after every game, and even disheartening, unbelievable collapses, and come from ahead losses, he said "I'm proud of our guys. We competed." He says all the the right things. He just doesn't DO any of the right things. But he's PC all the way, dresses nice, talks nice, and is loyal and articulate. He's just not a very good football coach. And he protects his friends. And....did I mention he can't coach? But, he's just as buttoned-down looking as Bisciotti; the kind of guy Steve can have over to dinner. Rex would never get invited to Bisciotti's. Not unless he lost a lot of weight, bought some nice suits, and regurgitated all the PC clichés that Harbaugh spouts. BTW, Rex is in the AFC Championship game that should have been held in Baltimore. How does that grab you, Mr. Bisciotti? Maybe you should step out of your limo, stop sipping your martinis, and have a beer with Rex. You might learn something. One can only hope.

BTW, the Ravens once again passed on hiring a Ryan, possibly because his hair is too long and unkempt. The Cowboys hired Rob today as DC. But, hey, we have Greg Mattison, and he's a friend of Harbaugh's father. Come to think of it, Rob's father wasn't all that bad of a coach, either. And Rob's brother is in the AFC Championship game. I wonder what Mattison's father did for a living when Greg was born back in the 1920's?

To all the whiners and crybabies out there: Mr. Bisciotti owes you all NOTHING. It is your PRIVILIGE to watch this game. Since you don't pay Bisciotti any money, he does not need to do a DAMN thing for you. "Oh but I buy tickets, and ravens gear, and, and, and...so he owes me a winning team!" Bullshit. You're not his boss, he doesn't answer to you, and if you think that because you put money into the ravens you deserve some sort of say in what goes on with that team...then you're a deluded idiot.

I'm so tired of all these Ravens fans who think they are entitled to a winning team by virtue of the fact that they support said team. The way this works is that you have 2 choices: support the Ravens, or don't support the Ravens. Either way, the Ravens are not accountable to you in any form or fashion. If you don't like it, then stop being a fan.

Also to all the Bisciotti haters, and the ones calling him an idiot...the man is a BILLIONAIRE. Sorry that you only make 50k a year and are stuck in a dead end, bullshit, no reward job and that you're pissed about it. Who's the idiot, the poor dumb bastard writing stupid shit on the internet or the billionaire at the head of one of the largest staffing firms in the country?

Hey Ravens fans, stop crying about coach, you are in playoffs every year with him, maybe you need to be like Browns for the next decade to appriceate what is going on here.
Mangini is available to coach if you want Harbaugh out. Get real people, it's hard to win Super Bowl.

1) I have no respect for Roethlisberger as a person; but he is a hell of a football player and the Steelers are a tough team. The Patriots, on the other hand, are led by Tom Lady, who should wear a skirt when (s)he whines to the refs for phantom roughing penalties. I'm glad New England lost.

I'll never forget sticking with the Colts despite all those 2-12 seasons, only to get sucker punched by that scumbag Irsay. This loss hurts, but being a Ravens fan beats the hell out of being a Baltimore Colts fan.

Nothing happened that we all haven't seen since the first month of the season.

The Ravens do not have a killer instinct.

Coaches? Players? I don't know but they don't have it.

Hey Mr. Flacco did you see Brady screaming at his O line yesterday?

Jim, short count on the Ravens trophys. When was the last time they even won their division?

Sorry to chime in - as a Steeler fan, I'm just here by accident.
I think you should stop bashing your team. From my/our point of view, this game was awfully close until the very end. When Ben threw that 56 yarder, I was almost sure that it would be intercepted by Ed Reed or somebody else. We caught some break (and OK, we also stopped shooting ourselves in the foot and simply played better football in the second half). However, I think that the Ravens are a fine team, against which no other team can be sure about winning. Shame that only 1 team out of the 32 gets to winning the Lombardi each year.

I would like to see an article "Did Ozzie and Biscioti" get the right guy for Head Coach. I think the Ravens would have one a Super Bowl under Rex Ryan.
Perhaps they went too conservative, kind of the way Harbaugh Coaches. I am not sure what Harbaugh is afraid of.

Folks, come on...Rice dosen't fumble the ball and we are probably playing this weekend at M and T and all would be rosie. People are saying that Rex should have been the coach and that Flacco sucks and crap like that. People we go 13-5 and you want blood. ONE team wins the super bowl. Think about the Falcons and even the Saints who lost to the Seahawks. It is dissappointing but to start this crap talk about all the people who suck is ridiculous. If we had gone 5-11 or 6-10 or something like that then maybe people get the suck title. Also it wasn't Harbaugh who fumbled and threw and interception and made a horrible holding call on Webb's TD run. We all have high emotions right now but we had a great season. Remember we could be the Panthers or Lions or something...I'm just sayin...

kisakos...thank you for your post. I'm glad a Steeler fan has put it into perspective. The game was very close and could have gone either way. And you a right...the Ravens are very good and fans need to just embrace that. Good luck in Pitt this weekend against the Jets...I believe the Steelers have to be favored to win it all.

let's raise a glass to the pleasure of watching another season of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. This was probably their last real chance to get to the Super Bowl. I hope the offense has apologized to them for their second half performance. And I hope the coaches realize how they wasted the talent they had this year. Coaches you may never get to coach leaders and treasures like these men again. Thanks Ray and Ed. Awesome game Siz.

Not to defend the current coaching regime --they are poster children of medicrity --but I think it is important to remember that Rex Ryan's "D" was just as mystified by Manning, Brady and Roethlisberger when he coached the Ravens, as is the current regime.

The Jet's beat Brady, but so did the Ravens last year. They beat the Cotls, but so did a lot of teams this year.

In other words, I don't think Ryan would do any better with the Ravens personnel than Harbaugh has done.

Ozzie needs to look beyond skill set when drafting --he needs to get a strong sense of temperament and tenacity as well. The Ravens need to draft players who are calm, focused, and relentless in clutch situations.

I think this is Green Bay year, The Packers are the real story.

Ozzie brought in 2wide rec with great history in attempted to help insure a sb victory for ray and Ed and other who's carriers are winding down. May teams don't spend that money. It's unfortunate it didn't work but you gotta give it to ravens execs for trying. The organization should now look at building for the future. Get rid of the high priced old guys and bring in fresh legs to ensure success for the future. Building team is so important and so difficult when you inject the "big stars" as free agents.

To me, it's real simple. Differences between Jets last night and Ravens Saturday: 1) offensive play-calling...Sanchez gets ALOT of pick and crossing patterns called for him...we never do...and when we DO, it's successful as Heap's TD attests; 2) Holmes used as a 'clearing' receiver, opening up shorter passes and/or running plays...why didn't we use Stallworth more?!?!, 3) Turnovers....which is obvious. You can solve two of the three above with a new O-coordinator.

Now that Baltimore football has moved north to New Jersey... I'm now a Jets fan. J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets. GO GET 'EM Rex! We miss you and your fire here in B'more!

Sometimes you just have to realize that even though a house looks good the foundation is bad. No matter how many coats of paint or upgrades you a house with a bad foundation will always crumble. Rooney's+Tomlin=Good foundation. Bisciotti+Harbaugh=Bad Foundation The Steelers own you pure and simple and it is not changing. Make major changes or get used to whining and crying.

Terrell Suggs will be proven a genius for his prediction that the winner of our playoff game will go on to win the Super Bowl.

R- E- X- X: REX, REX, REX!!!!

(well I had the throw the extra X in, otherwise it wouldn't have worked).

Fortunatley, this is still America where I get to speak my mind, even if you or billionare owners don't like it. I guess that I need to educate you, because you don't seem to understand this: The Ravens are not a "privilige," they are a commercial PRODUCT. As a consumer, I get to complain whenever I feel a product is not meeting my expectations. If you don't like it, well that is too bad. BTW, I am a season ticket owner and put my money where my mouth is. I paid for my PSL and I pay each year for my season tickets. What do you do?

It is grand to see that the stupidity of the Bun baeball stils REIGNS. The Shmuck grab his butt with both hands and dribble is the only thing that comes out of his mouth, Keep the stupid dribble rolling from your inane lips.

The Jets winning just makes it all the more devastating. Instead of gearing up for the AFC Championship at M&T Bank, I will be avoiding the TV praying that the Steelers lose.

I'm a little depressed reading everyone hate so much on the team that brought our city to the playoffs 3 YEARS in a row. Each year there are 30 teams trying to win the trophy and each year 1 team wins. We didn't win this year. Oh well. Life goes on. Get over it. Yeah it sucks we're done. Yes I am up angry we're not playing at home next Sunday. The reality is, we are not and as fans, the only thing we can do is hope they do better next year.

The owner chose poorly three years ago with his head coaching selection. That catastrophic decision is going to haunt Ravens fans for a generation.

I think the fact that an AFC Champonship game would have been played in Baltimore, is bothering more than the loss itself. Last time they had one of those was 40 years ago. I was a junior in college at that time.

Oops Malteseterp you seem to be confusing shareholder with consumer. A shareholder gets to have a say in the product: a consumer gets to either buy or not buy the product and either way shut the hell up. If you don't like the product, then STOP BUYING SEASON TICKETS. Yes, it really is that simple. Complain all you want to; that is your right. However, thinking that the Ravens need to somehow respond to your complaints is as foolish as you are stupid.

Well . . . we see that our Offensive guru Cam Cameron will be back next year. Wow. This is almost as bad as knowing that Peter Angelos will be the owner of the Orioles. So, what do we as Ravens fans have to look forward to next year? Getting blown out in the first round - or will the Ravens fail in the second round again? You can bet Pittsburgh, Indianapolis or New England will be there to show what a failure Cameron is. All over again. It looks like a certainty. Hard to believe Harbaugh is this gullible. Another season wasted before it even begins.

Wow, this is just priceless logic - either buy the product or shut up. And if the Ford Pinto goes boom because of a defect, well don't complain or demand redress because you are just a consumer, not a shareholder. BRILLIANT!

Painfully lame - try again.

Ok for all of you whining tards. Enough already.ThankYou Mr Bisciotti, and all of the other front office people. Thank You John Harbaugh for being our teams coach, But most of all thank you RAVENS for one of the best seasons we have had. Im so proud to say Im a RAVENS fan , I live in Florida and have see everyone where i live support the Steelers or the patts. WTF at least you guys have purple friday and can watch them for free on tv ,,,We have to buy the nfl package.... True ravens fan. So shut the @#$% up and quit whining!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flacco blows chunks

he is a younger Rex Grossman

if we had a GM he could trade a package with Flacco for the number one pick (Car/Luck)

sigh it will never happen

Does anyone have a link to the article where Ray Lewis made post season comments calling players out? Or know where to find the story/comments?
Can't find it anywhere...
