Wrestling: Eck risks his neck, will soon hit the deck
Just when I thought all this wrestling foolishness was in my rear-view mirror, Ring Posts blogger Kevin Eck called the "Sportsline" radio show tonight (WBAL 1090AM, WBAL.com) and challenged me to show up at the Maryland Championship Wrestling show on July 31st in Dundalk and face him in a six-man tag team match. I tried to take the high road and avoid a physical confrontation, but the guy apparently wants a piece of The Schmuck, so who am I to argue? As you can see from the video below, I'm shaking in my boots.

how long have you 2 had this planned?

Apparently Mr Lugo doesn't have his head in the game, trying to bunt for a hit with a 1-2 count. Can't anybody here play this game??
Posted by: dave taylor | July 6, 2010 7:32 PM
so after making fun of wrestling, now your making fun of spelling erors?
I'll have the MD Scrabble Socitey banging on your door any minute.

LOL, Go easy on em Pete. Btw, I'm a product of Dundalk by way of Turner Station! Please don't hold that against me. DHS OWLS!! '96

Is it some kind of weird rule that the Orioles have to leave two men on base in every inning? I hadn't seen a runner thrown out at 3rd by the first baseman in years until the O's pulled that off tonight.
Posted by: Jon in Chicago | July 6, 2010 8:43 PM
Gee Pete. Wrestlng? We all know the O's aren't worth our time, and plenty of us don't bother to watch much. We leave that dreary task to guys like you who do it for a living. I suggest that next year you line up a diversion that will take you to the beach for a few beers, some crabs, and a gig judging a swimsuit contest.
Posted by: dedalus | July 6, 2010 8:51 PM
Really Pete?? You've sunk to publicity stunts?? Un-effin believable..............

Some advice Pete-cheat!
Salt in the eyes,
And remember it aint cheating if you dont get caught!
Posted by: john | July 6, 2010 9:11 PM
Lets see here,
He cuts a great Promo & has legit heel heat ahead of time from a hostile crowd?
Schmuck might be onto something depending on how much ringrust he is able to knock off in the next 3-plus weeks.
I do see Eck probably tuning up the band though, and in an Ode to HBK hitting sweet chin music on this Schmuck for the win.
Posted by: Chris044 | July 6, 2010 9:13 PM
Wow! You are such a tool!!! Go Eck!!!
Posted by: Jeremy | July 6, 2010 9:16 PM
For once, can any O's manager leave a young pitcher to work out of a jam late in the game?
Posted by: not brooks | July 6, 2010 9:24 PM
not brooks,
agree with sentiment in general, but, in this instance, I thought Jake looked pretty scary-ly rattled. I was thinking "wow, there's the young 24 year old look of over his head...".
I mention it also because I thought that he had handled getting shelled "better" than in the 7th there.
I've liked Jake's "composure", or whatever, when he's pitched. I think Andy had said something about "character" in the prospects. I think in the instance of Arietta and Matusz they seem to "have a clue", or something to that effect.
again, opinion based on un-trained observation.
(for the record, I'm un-easy with Simon as Closer....prove me wrong please!)
Posted by: paulie | July 6, 2010 9:38 PM
Pie's 2 for 5 tonight (so far) dropped his average. I love it. C MON SIMON !!!!! SHUT THE DOOR !!!!!!!

Your 2010 Orioles: Finding new and exciting ways to lose.
Posted by: Jon in Chicago | July 6, 2010 10:30 PM
nice job
leadoff walk spells doom
good job, walking damon to bring up cabrerra as the tying run
throw strikes to the leadoff guy will you
Posted by: jim66 | July 6, 2010 10:32 PM
Jon in Chicago,
come on...blow saves in the ninth isn't that new. it's been a while, sure...but not new.
Posted by: paulie | July 6, 2010 10:34 PM
You're right, certainly not new, but you have to admit they are usually able to come up with different ways to lose almost every night. Tonight's just happens to be old hat.
Posted by: Jon in Chicago | July 6, 2010 10:39 PM
Do you know any other joke apart from somethinng about tattoo's?
Posted by: Orton.1 | July 6, 2010 10:44 PM
to be fair, the games not over...
and while they find ways to do it to themselves, they may also find new ways to Win...which is something of the point I suppose.
Posted by: paulie | July 6, 2010 10:55 PM
Way to go Orioles leave 2 more runners on hahaha
Posted by: Anonymous | July 6, 2010 11:01 PM
Amazing what a capable closer can mean to a team and not to pile on Simon because he's been mostly good, but signing Gonzalez may have set this team back years.
Posted by: Jon in Chicago | July 6, 2010 11:04 PM
Yep glad we didnt sign Damon! This team of utility men is much more exciting!
Posted by: Anonymous | July 6, 2010 11:08 PM
the issue here is not the Orioles, it's nothing more than expecting the worst team in the majors to play any differently than the worst team in the majors.
This is classic stuff. Starting pitching stinks for a while, get a good start and the bullpen decides a vacation is in order. RISP avg just terrible. No power threats.
None of that is going away, probably not for the rest of the year.
Posted by: jim66 | July 6, 2010 11:17 PM
Hahaha, I love it Pete. You said what I was thinking, just mess his hair up and he'll go running for the dressing room. I like both you guys as writers and wish I could be there but I'll be out of state.
Posted by: Dave | July 6, 2010 11:52 PM
My grandfathers must be rolling in their graves at how far the Os have fallen on Angelos's watch. So fricking inexcusable.
Posted by: Pop fisher | July 7, 2010 12:01 AM
Never seen a team better at grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory! Has to be about the ugliest loss yet, uglier than Betty!
Posted by: Anonymous | July 7, 2010 1:03 AM
this team has no cleanup hitter, if they did, they would have had galaraga out of the game long before he actually left. They should have had 5 runs off of him tonight. This team is offensively inept, and to think you can compete in the major leagues without a leadoff hitter and a bonafide slugger in the middle of the lineup is just sheer lunacy. I'm surprised any time they score more than 4 or 5 runs. It's a modern day baseball miracle when they do.
Look for more of the same, or less, in the second half, if that is possible.
Posted by: jim66 | July 7, 2010 1:30 AM
The way I see it, this team has to have a new first baseman and a new shortstop next season, and possibly a new third baseman if Bell doesn't get the job. Forget the pitching staff for a second and focus on getting legitmate major league players at 1B and SS. No more automatic outs like Izturis and black holes at first. Enough if enough.
Posted by: Jon in Chicago | July 7, 2010 1:38 AM
This is so scripted.
Posted by: Mr. Deez | July 7, 2010 9:36 AM
Pretty crazy Pete, You'll apologize for everything Orioles, but where are you when they blow another game? You can bet you would have been here if they came back to win. So transparent..
Posted by: bms | July 7, 2010 10:21 AM
The Schmuckster has good heel heat!
Say nice things about the Orioles or else you'll blow it before the big Smackdown with Kevin Eck!
Posted by: AMC | July 7, 2010 10:28 AM

Word has it that Mickie James, the former multi-time WWE women's champion will be in Kevin Eck's corner at Maryland Championship Wreslting. She may attempt to kick your ___.

Pete,
It's kind of funny seeing the authors I read the most on this site going toe-to-toe.
Some friendly advice: Don't protect your head when Kev goes to hit you with a steel chair. He absolutely hates when guys do that.

This blog has gone to the dogs.

Sorry Pete, but there were a whole lot of great people to come out of Dundalk. If you ever get the chance go check out the Dundalk Sports Hall of Fame at DCC.I don't care what they call it officially now,it will always be Dundalk Community College to me.My uncle got inducted last year along with some others who I knew and watched. My senior year in high school, our soccer team was the National High School Champions. And that's not to overlook the hardworking men and women who at one time comprised the largest section of the workforce at Bethlehem Steel,Western Electric, and GM who all wanted to raise their families in good old Dundalk.I'm proud to have been born and raised in Dundalk, got a great education there, and have never understood why we get trashed by a lot of people who have never even been there. Also the many men and women who fought in the military and served our country admirably,my father being one of them.He still lives in the same house I grew up in,in a great neighborhood, where almost everybody still knows most of their neighbors names.Go Dundalk. These days,I hate to say I'd almost rather watch "rassling" then I would the Borioles.

I guess a non-wrestling fan may be naive enough to believe in such "spontaneous" nonsense, but clearly this has been the point all along.
That being said, I applaud the build-up. It was staged/carried out well...it's just hard to believe to reporters from the same paper are suddenly going to turn on each other so viciously (and that editors would allow such a public feud), and then one challenges the other to an in-ring confrontation.
I, however, being a bit of a wrestling fan will enjoy it for what it is...entertainment. Go lay the Smackdown on him Pete.
Just don't where your Millwood jersey or you'll get knocked all over the yard...errr, ring.

Nice promo.
Unfortunately, to view it I had to first sit through a BP propaganda video, which showed none of the horrible destruction they have caused to our shorelines. Nor did they apologize in this video.
Maybe you should try to get some BP execs in the ring!

This is great!
You make an awesome heel, Pete!
I can't wait till my fellow Dundalk boy knocks some sense into ya!
