World Cup: Sage observation

Hey, am I the only one who thinks that Dutch World Cup coach Bert Van Marwijk should be cast as the villain in the next Die Hard movie?

I was thinking more "The Real Coaches of the Netherlands" on TV.

it's the scarf and the spiky silver hair. who does that, other than Bond villains...

Only 2 things in this world I can't stand
1. People who are intolerate of others
2. The DUTCH!

Bert is the new manager of Spinal Tap.

I hate to say this, Pete, but your post here may not be suitable for younger or more sensitive readers. Van Marwijk had two stints managing Feyenoord which is based in Rotterdam, one of Baltimore's Sister Cities, and that's good in my books.

was he the FABULOUS! looking one?

Dude is a dead ringer for the Bond villian in "Die Another Day"

Peter,
As an Expat (from Annapolis) living in Amsterdam, yesterday was a great excuse to deck myself out in bright orange O's gear. It's a sad day for the Dutchies, but man was it a fun ride. Hopefully ESPN showed museumplein on TV again, absolute (good) chaos. Go Ajax, Bert regrets his days with the rival Rotterdam squad. I'm sure you have some analytics for your blog, so you see how many times you get hits from Amsterdam, mostly from me I'd assume, but let me know if you have a larger following here so I can unite the O's fans.

Pete's reply: I'm sure that there are dozens of O's fans in Amsterdam that read this blog religiously, but the team is so bad they don't want to be identified. I'm afraid you're going to have trouble staging that reunion until the team gets better.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
