MCW: The Schmuckdown

petewrestling.jpgI'm going to admit right here that I got ambushed by Kevin Eck on Tuesday night on WBAL. I never had any intention of getting into the ring with him. I mean, do you know what that peroxide he's got all over his head will do to a good Tommy Bahama? Now, I have to defend the honor of The Schmuck Stops Here at the Maryland Championship Wrestling Shamrock Cup Show on July 31 in beautiful downtown Dundalk.

Clearly, Kevin can't even take a little ribbing. Check out this video he made for his wrestling blog. The guy -- and his readers -- are obsessed with me, which I would totally understand if they were women. Not a lot of guys out there with my combination of physical attractiveness, intelligence, sense of humor and raw athleticism, so I'll understand if Mickie James has trouble keeping her hands off me that night.

Really, fellas, I've enjoyed the running commentary about my chances in the six-man tag team match, but it's not like I'm going out there alone, though I probably could muddle through myself if necessary. I may be the only person in the arena who can read and write, so I might even change the script at the last minute.

Uh, if you're the only 1 who can read & write there, who could read your script change?

Could you guys at least be a bit more creative about this?

Schmuck: "Wrestling is scripted and it's for rednecks. And your hair is stupid."

Eck: "You're old. And your name is stupid."

Is this the sort of banter that goes on in pro wrestling? If so, man, it's worse than I thought...

How much alcohol was consumed while the two of you concocted this hairbrained idea??? Many, many i think.

Pete--Seems like sports reporting in the home town has hit the mat, too. It's funny how I can advocate the hiring of Buck Showalter for over a year now, finally see it about to happen, but get most of my hope from a former Sun reporter, Buster Olney, who reported on July 5th that he sees the odds of the Orioles hiring Buck now at 1/2.

Those are ugly odds at the track but a beautiful sight for me and others who want Showalter as the next Baltimore manager.

Where is the Sun in pursuing this story?

Please bring us the breaking news that Buck will be the next manager of the Orioles.

You playfully poke fun at yourself for loving to eat. So, I suppose I should take heart when you say your gut tells you Buck will be the choice.

Please keep your scent on the story.

Thanks.

were you aware that the A's brought Wolf up today?

"Not a lot of guys out there with my combination of physical attractiveness, intelligence, sense of humor and raw athleticism"

You forgot "overwhelming humility", especially in the face of the attacks from the great unwashed of Dundalk.

/BTW - put me down on the side of thoroughly enjoying this bit of drama. It has been a welcome respite from the overwhelming heat and the painful downward spiral of an Orioles' season that had a glimmer of hope before it began

I give you credit pete , you certainly know how to generate interest when you blog starts to fail. It's only july and you have had to start talking about unrelated topics like wrestling, so i don't know what you will have to come up with when the dog day's of august arrive.By the way pete your hall of fame gold glove outfielder named MR jones is just killing the orioles defensely. What a absolute horrible performance.

Pete's reply: You really know how to get under my skin. I wasn't aware the blog was failing, but if someone with as positive an attitude as you thinks so, I must be in big trouble. Is it just possible that I thought it might be fun to do something else other than holding your hand while you cry about the Orioles 24/7?

This is just getting embarrassing now. Is this what the Sun has stopped to? Thank the Lord there are so may better places to get information now like MASN, Orioles Hangout and Ravens 24x7.

Pete's reply: Hey Jake, if you can't handle a little fun in the midst of your overly serious obsession with the Orioles, I would prefer you go to one of those other sites.

Why are are you Oriole fans so bitter? Where's your sense of humor?

Whoops, right, you are Oriole fans! Can't blame 'ya I suppose.

Pete you don't have to waste your time holding my hand, you should spend more time with posters like jake that obviously need more attention.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
