"Dinner" anyone?

Can't wait for the new Paul Rudd/Steve Carrell movie to hit theaters, and it should be pretty obvious why. "Dinner For Schmucks" comes out in about two weeks and promises to be a big hit, even though I'm conspicuous by my lack of a cameo appearance. Pretty big oversight if you ask me.

Anyway, it's getting maximum promotion, including trailers during last night's All-Star Game on Fox. If you want to check one of them out, I picked one off of YouTube and included it below.

Wow, that movie looks REALLY bad. It's unfortunate because I like those actors.

Peter,

You definitly belong in this movie. :-)

I think Paul Rudd has been in every bad comedy ever written. By law, I believe it is not allowed to truly suck unless Rudd is involved.

Ironically, he used to be a respected actor in quality films, such as "Cider House Rules." and was often seen in Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.

I guess he has decided to forego any sense of self-respect and intellectual honesty for money. But since we are all major league baseball fans in here, we obviously wouldn't understand such an attitude!

fang, i definitely have to disagree with about rudd since he was in Anchorman and Role Models, two of the funniest movies IMO

Fang -

When did you forget how to laugh?

I haven't seen all of Rudd's comedies, but I did see Clueless, Anchorman, Knocked Up and I Love You, Man. And they all made me laugh. And that's the point of a comedy, right?

By the by...

Rotten Tomatoes scores:

Clueless: 83%
Anchorman: 64%
Knocked Up: 90%
I Love You, Man: 83%

And two more that I haven't seen:
40 Year Old Virgin: 85%
Role Models: 77%

Thought this was for posters who contributed to this blog between 5 & 7 everyday

I was wondering how long it would take for you to comment on this movie/title. Maybe you should send the producers one of your unique T-shirts.

If you haven't seen and loved Wet Hot American Summer, you don't know comedy.

Fang, I'd love to hear what comedies you thought were funny... The Love Guru or all those horrible ____ Movie movies (i.e. Date Movie, Epic Movie) perhaps? Is that more your speed?

PS - Cider House Rules is one of the most over-rated pieces of crap put on celluloid.

Chris in Hawaii,

OMG, Wet Hot American Summer is brilliant!! I love that film.

paulie,

So much awesomeness in that one... but what can you expect from the people who put out The State? I could sit here and run lines from it the way other people do Caddyshack...

You taste like a burger... I don't like you anymore.

I'm writing in my gurnal. I write my thoughts in it everyday.
Oh, you mean a journal.
Yeah, whatever. Guess I'm not all smart like you.

Andy, where are we going?
To a big, super-secret pizza party.
Oh cool. I love pizza!
Yeah, well... *pushes kid out of van*

Hey, you... penny for your thoughts.
Beth, tomorrow is the least of our problems.
Don't tell me, oh, don't tell me, don't even tell me you have crabs!
No... well, yes, but that's not the point.

Plus, the montage where they go into town for "an hour" is pretty much the best thing ever.

sigh...I miss "The State". There's been a lot of good sketch comedy groups over the years, but I think they might have been the best. Does Micheal Ian Black breath funny or what...

I haven't watched W.H.A.S. in a minute...time to dust of the old DVD.

But I'll never forget the gay-make-out scene...so wrong.

So wrong... or so right! I love the gay make-out scene! (And it was more than making out) All while his buddies are trying to figure out what girl they should try to hook him up with... (secret hand-shake?) Plus, it only amped up the speculation about Michael Ian Black's sexuality, which he does a bit on on his comedy album. AND his partner is the now slightly famous Bradley Cooper of The Hangover and The A-Team.

My favorite on screen duo in the movie though, is Christopher Meloni (of Law & Order SVU fame) and the talking can of vegetables voiced by H. Jon Benjamin.

And there was one sketch comedy team better than The State in the 90's... Mr. Show.

Worst Horror film all time?

Story of the 2010 Baltimore Orioles

"They have next to nothing at any level," said Scout No. 1. "The key to successful drafting isn't just to cherry-pick one of the top-five guys with your first pick, which they've done, but to get depth from the later rounds. Their drafting has been bottom of the barrel, an absolute disaster."

Because the Orioles haven't identified and drafted the right later-round talent in recent years, the system lacks "athletes who can play every day in the big leagues, and that includes some of their first-rounders too, guys like [Frederick third baseman Billy] Rowell and [Norfolk first baseman Brandon] Snyder," Scout No. 1 said. Frederick centerfielder Xavier Avery is one of very few exceptions, he added.

The Red Sox, Yankees and Rays all sign more players each year than the Orioles, picking "overslot" players in later rounds who are wooed by bonus money higher-round selections normally cadge. But when they do pony up cash for a later-round pick, the O's too often pick players who are hurt, such as Cameron Coffey, a left-handed pitcher who had undergone Tommy John surgery before being drafted last year.

"Or they get guys who just can't play, like the catcher [Michael Ohlman, an 11th-round pick in 2009 who, like Coffey, signed a $1 million bonus] at Delmarva who doesn't look like he can hit, catch or throw," said Scout No. 1. "It's baffling."

He cant hit, catch or throw, lol. He'll probably be in the starting line up in a few yrs. He'll fit right in at Turdland

Source please?

I used google, and unless you found this posted on a blog I don't know about, I found your above article nowhere. Thanks.

Kenny posted a link to a site called PressBox on "Schmuck on Samuel" thread. I've never heard of PressBox, but apparently, it's a printed publication and you can buy it at any Royal Farms store.

Here's the link: http://www.pressboxonline.com/story.cfm?id=6427

not brooks/ dave in g.b.:

Not brooks is correct - somewhat - PressBox can be picked up at Royal Farms stores - but it is free. There's some good columns in there. I believe it is edited by Stan "The Fan" Charles. It used to be a weekly, but they now publish monthly.

Regardless, that article is scary.

Thanks for the credit, not brooks.

"Ripken relishes the idea of working with MacPhail, who immediately made an impression with his savvy and knowledge of the game.

“I really like him. I think he’s a smart baseball guy. I like how he thinks. I like how he listens,” Ripken said. “The whole reason I started to think about this was because of Andy. The whole idea was twofold: Things were getting close with Ryan, and I really like spending time with Andy.”

OMG, Cal likes Andy...!!!!

Cal obviously doesn't know anything about baseball.

It's fans like Cal that are ruining the O's.

Cal is the basard son of Andy...becasue no sane person would ever ever ever ever like anything about Andy.

Cal is now just as evil as Andy and Peter!!!!

(too much?)

speaking of Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd, if you didn't see the ESPY's last night, the skit Rudd and Carrell did was too funny.

Jason,

Why is he trying to join an orginization that is bad?

Why is he considering being employeed by such evil people?

...keep trying Jason. It's cute how you try to hate so much. The four-letter words add so much heaft to your argument too.

scouts who wont give their name...

nah

scouts who wont give their name.../b>

....probably want to stay employed. Seems obvious.

I suggest you to watch the excellent french movie "Le diner de con" (1998) this one seems to be a poor copy .

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
