Random observation from the mountaintop

There has been some righteous grumbling about a report that USC is paying new football coach Lane Kiffin $4 million per year, but I don't know what all the commotion is about. For Kiffin to have any credibility in the SC lockerroom, he has to make more than the players.

You're just jealous USC's mascot is a condom.

Who cares?? This is Maryland!

University of
Spoiled
Coaches

Good story about Kiffin inside a Rapistberger article on deadspin about his younger days in Tennessee.

Story goes he was being a jerk to a girl he was dating in a bar and she (disgustingly) put him in his place.

I will let you read!

No talk of the Wizards getting the #1 pick?

I mean, John Wall, a new owner, Gilbert (I mean that in a good way), and cash for a top free agent, and Flip Saunders...could be the most exciting thing for the area since (fill in you're own hyperbole).

Maybe Chris Bosh in Free Agency...okay, that's not gonna happen, like the O's getting Albert Pujols.

Pete i have noticed recently that more and more of your articles have been about nothing or things that aren't related to the current state of the orioles. I have also noticed that you have been doing things that are related to subjects in the great state of california. I know that you have a fondness for that state maybe it would be a good idea to move back out there and then you could cover the raiders and all the great teams out there. Your great at covering bad teams.

Pete's reply: Bob, I was trying to give everybody a laugh, but you apparently have lost your sense of humor. Too many O's games, I guess.

Paulie-

I will support the Wiz when Leonsis changes the name back and switches back to Red White and Blue.

Pete isn't the O's beat writer. The state of the O's isn't Watergate, he isn't working 22 hours a day trying to undercover deep throat. Its just baseball, chill out. Plus I think he is from SoCal; the Raiders play 10 hours from there. It would be like asking to cover the Atlanta Falcons from Bmore.

waspman-
the mascot of USC is a protoypically built NFL-style (6'4" 220) WR that runs a 4.8 40.

Good one Pete. LOL

Aubrey is not the Orioles long term answer at first but, he's got a hell of alot more upside for the short term than this washed up McPhail reclamation project we're currently stuck with.
Mr. Atkins, say hello to Norfolk...Mr. Aubrey, come on up. Hit .230 with 1 homerun in your first 15 games & you'll be paying dividends already.
Any more "players" you're scouting Andy?

jack,

I don't believe Aubrey is the answer long term or short term either. But you know who might be? Kila Ka'aihue. If we could obtain him from KC, he might be our own version of Kevin Youkilis. At worst he's be our own version of Nick Johnson.

Andy is incapable of a prospect for prospect swap

It requires risk

Good theory Pete, except that Kiffin still isn't making more than the players.

Guru,

A couple subjects past, you accuse me of attacking you. Well, it wasn't me. I don't use the f-bomb and I don't attack personally.

I may disagree and I may irritate the hell out of some, but I try not to cross a line.

I also don't post under different names. I've ever seen the point. When I'm upset at something said or want to make a point, I just use my good ole name. Besides, what difference would using another name make? I know people do it. People on this thread do it in fact... but I've never understood why.

Pete knows I didn't write whatever post made you so upset. That's good enough for me.

Trust me though, anonymous will come on here and counter what I say. I use to care but I don't anymore. There really is a couple sick people on this Blog and I truly feel sorry for them. Their lives really are sad and pathetic.

Me? I just call it like it is about the O's, just like many others have. In doing so, I upset some, with a few being obsessed with me.

Weird, but true....

Hope the O's win tonight....

Everyone,

Please read the 3:31 post by BP article under Pete's last Blog Subject 'Well that's one way to look at it'...

Talk about reality from a unbiased perspective......

At the SHAMROCK School for Hitting Sac Flies, we teach our students the keys to hitting Sac Flies.

First, we teach to bet the bat on the ball.

Second, our students drive the ball to the outfield.

In addition, we teach effective tagging up techniques, such as waiting for the ball to be caught to run.

All this for $19.99!

But wait! THERES MORE!

With a purchase in the next 5 minutes, and remember, we can't do this all day, we will throw in our popular "Making Productive Outs: Avoiding DPs, strikeouts and tappers back to the mound with runners on base"

Don't wait, Call 800-SAC-FLY1 today!

Atkins is like the kid in little league you try to hide by putting him(or her) in right field, and the first ball goes where? right field.
Situations just seem to find the guy.
The Os had a chance for a real big inning there.

What I would like to know, is that other than being the son of Monte Kiffin, why has this guy had a youthful and meteoric rise to these head coaching jobs?

I kind of get the feeling the Orioles are going to waste a solid start by Guthrie tonight. Has anyone besides Scott, Patterson and Wigginton homered in the past week?

to really gauge the depth of offensive bad, harden is averaging under 5 innings a start with a 1.67 WHIP, walking guys like crazy. The Os have managed one walk.
And Jon, this would not be the first time a good start was wasted. I think overall the pitching has been better than 13-27, the hitting probably worse.
Wieters has all but disappeared. Any word on Matt? That kid has hit everywhere he's been, and not so bad last year. C'mon back Matt.

I believe that it is beyond any measure of coincidence that struggling pitchers suddenly find it while facing the Os.

As bad as the Orioles are offensively, and they are really bad, take a look at the Mariners' numbers, which are far worse. Most of their lineup is batting below .200. They at least fired their hitting coach so we know they aren't happy with that.

One of the Shamrock's (all caps) said, "the mascot of USC is a protoypically built NFL-style (6'4" 220) WR that runs a 4.8 40."

Actually, OJ Simpson was my second thought.

ohhhh, watch out jon. somewhere lurks the seattle fan ready to tear you apart for talking down that overpriced pile of lumber out on the west coast...

the law of averages says atkins gets a hit here...otherwise i'm gonna lose my faith in the law of averages...

I predict Atkins' next RBI comes for the St. Paul Saints or some other Independent League team in July.

Sad Reality of the Day:

Izturis has a higher OBP than Atkins

Release Atkins

atkins cannot be in the lineup ever again

I nominate calling him Can'tkins. As in, Can'tkins can't get a hitkins.

Is Atkins dating Macphail's daughter or something?

Orioles just don't want to admit their mistake with Atkins yet. It's not like they have Ryan Howard waiting to take his place either. He'll eventaully get released I'ms ure but McPhail is just holding out hope he can turn it around, which we all know he won't.

Chris,

D O'Day has a higher OBP than Atkins

i hear seattle is looking for a right handed hitting first baseman...

HEY HEY HEY

Unless he said he was tired, why is Guthrie out of this game? He threw 90 piches, he couldn't go another inning at least? He looked awesome in the sixth.

...............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Yet to hear why he left after 90 pitches.

This team is pathetic..........WTF is Albers doing on an MLB team!!!?!?!

ALBERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wayne:

No, I was talking about Jason. That's why I re-posted all of his garbage. I never said you've attacked me.

I said that I have gone after you in the past. I haven't for a while.

The point as it pertains to you: I was hard on you in the past, but after reading his garbage right after that, I've left you and everyone alone and just read. It isn't worth it. I know he'll get on here and talk some stupidity about this post. I don't care. He's the personification of childish.

wayne:

It may be unclear after Pete deleted all of his comments from my post. I don't blame him, they were rediculously immature.
I can see why you'd think I was talking about you based on what is left of my post.

Go O's! It's still early! Besides, it's all about 2012! (haha had to say it for you wayn-o)

Thanks for clearing that up Guru..... As for 2012........ugh!
