Orioles: Early observations

-- Brad Bergesen deserved slightly better in the first inning. He walked the leadoff batter, so he certainly contributed to the Royals' first run of the game, but Scott Posednik probably should have been tagged out stealing before the inning got more complicated. Matt Wieters made a great throw, but Ty Wiggington tagged Posednik a little too high up the arm.

-- Bergesen faced Billy Butler for the first time since Butler hit that screaming comebacker that ended Bergesen's solid 2009 season. This time, Butler hurt him again, but with a soft RBI single to right.

-- I could probably count this crowd from the press box, but I'll wait for the official attendance. There's a chance it could set a new single-game low -- which happened once earlier this year when the O's drew 9,129 on April 12, another Monday night.

-- Corey Patterson opened the Orioles half of the first with a drag bunt for a hit. If he did that a little more, he wouldn't have come back here with a .290 career OBP.

-- Sometimes it really is better to be lucky than good. Miguel Tejada just tied the game with a nubber down the third base line.

Atkins reminds of a right-handed hitting Jay Gibbons. Guy who once had it but lost it in a hurry. Luckily, Atkins is only signed for this year but I'm wondering if the Orioles will eat the rest of his contract soon and just relase him like they had to do with Gibbons. Please get an actual first baseman next season, not a prospect or a project but a player with a history of succeeding.

Peter, tonight's attendance does seem like the lowest all season (and maybe ever at OPACY). However, there were some very nice crowds over the weekend when the O's were playing a very bad team.

You can hardly fault this fan base for not wanting to see the most uninspired Orioles baseball in recent memory.

To give you an idea.....

I'm on the road and couldn't make it to the game.

I know it's not a great night at the park, but it's not terrible either.

I offered 3 tickets to anyone back in my office. First come, first serve. I also offered complimentary meal tickets for dinner in the warehouse....

32 employee's.........

0 takers.........

As in Zero......

Oh... I'm sorry, was I being negative?

atkins should be released right after tonite's game. regardless of his next atbats.unless of course they feel the need to give him another few hundred at bats to see if he's really spent. How about your bosses coming out in public and telling you they're hunting for your replacement?
Can you make that up?

tejada, no matter what he does for this team, they remain terrific losers.

wayne, I answered your question on the other blog, I'll do it again here, two two in the sixth, but KC now has bases loaded with one out.

Thanks ken,

Sunny here, but chilly......

It's just amazing that the O's signed Atkins. Certainly the slightest amount of homework would have shown he'd be a bust. Just pathetic. How wrong can one team be on everything? It's like they try to screw EVERYTHING up.

How are we better today then pre-Andy? Beatagan could have made the Tejada & Bedard trades. And don't go screaming about the minor league revamp... barely average+ in Andy's tenure. Obviously we have marginal positional young talent ready. Hughes? Bell? Snyder? And it only gets worse from there...

Trembley is gone before the team leaves for Texas.

Gone the next off day if they manage to take 2/3 from KC.

Something has to give.

Is Eric Wedge in the KC system? Did I read that somewhere?

Kansas City? I find it extremely difficult day after day, watching what was once a proud franchise lose game after game. The bleeding will continue, the only question that remains is who will remain from the opening day roster, including coaches.

is he going to take about 6 or 7 players wiyh him?If I were Nick, I'd be on the phone with my lawyer looking for an out clause...this is really bad.

I really don't think Trembley will be fired anytime soon. Maybe around the All-Star break but even then I have my doubts. Does ownership even care at this point, the fans certainly don't and with good reason.

Patterson's 1st inning was exactly what a leadoff batter should do and seeing it made me realize exactly what this team has been lacking. That drag bunt was a thing of beauty! Then on the very next pitch, Patterson steals 2nd. A fairly routine fly ball to left center and Patterson tags up and gets to 3rd. Eventually he scores on a weak grounder up the 3rd base line. That is a run that is entirely on Patterson thanks to his hustle and was great for this fan to see!!

if wiggi first pitch swings into a DP with 1st 3rd 1 out, I will sh!t.

wow... i was close!

i have it on gamecast, was that 1 pitch into an almost DP?

awesome. another wasted 3-1 count on a double play.

Someone needs to teach them how to capitalize on good counts by avoiding GIDP's and pop ups.

What a mess.

obviously,

i must not be missing much..... your post paint a pretty awful picture

the hallmarks of Team Awful...

now who would teach them that?

Izturis stays above the Mendoza line!!!!

you have got to be kidding me.

Fly ball ties.

FLLLLYYYY BALLLLLL TIIIIIIEEESSSSS...

Folks,

Settle down, those realists on this blog knew exactly what we were going to be this year. There will be no one fired during the season, that would cost PA money and negatively effect the bottom line. So brace yourself for the long hot dawg days of summer and somewhere around 60 wins. Enjoy the good ones, and just lower your expectations and you won't have to swallow so hard.

As far as who will next get the call to manage or GM or whatever, forgetaboutit

Who would want to come to this disconbobulated organization? Really who? Your answer - no one that has a proven record! Only some minor league lifer like Perlozzo or Trembley! But even the right guy would be better than DT provided ole PA and AM spend about $110 -$120M per on salaries. Otherwise, just keep good ole losing Dave, pretty soon playing the Orioles will be like playing that team that never wins against the Globetrotters, the Generals!

So just sit back and enjoy another year in the cellar and remember I told you so!

The truth will set you free!

Boycott Birdland!

how about sitting in the opposing dugout and knowing that if you can score 4 runs, your chance of winning ia about 80%?

post-game observation

The O's Are F___ing Unwatchable!! They do nothing well, they need a SF and they swing and miss, everyone hits into DP after DP. KC tries to give us the game in the 9th and Wiggy K's when he only needs a SF. They have a awful bench, Trembley has no choice. Why is Lou on the bench hitting .117 and I have not been to a game in over 10 years and Angelos will NEVER GET A DIME OF MY $$$$$ SELL THE TEAM

Wayne: Where do you get the complimentary meal tickets?

I think Trembley just put himself on the front end of my prediction.

What good does giving them an out do vs. a pitcher that couldn't find the plate?

Not like Patterson was going to GIDP? Maybe at worst, he ends up 1st/3rd, 1 out Markakis up (and doesn't get walked).

What did he think they would do to Markakis?

Doing so takes the bat out of Markakis' hand and puts it into Wiggi the DP makers hands. I get he's hot, but the guy hits into alot of untimely DPs and is a Righty vs. Righty.

I know I am arm chairing, but come on.. Let Patterson swing away.

Is the Coach of the Hawks in Mighty Ducks busy?
