Dave on baserunning gaffes: "Make a decision"
There already have been a handful of ugly baserunning mishaps during the first eight games of the season, and Dave Trembley is not making any excuses for them.
"Poor decisions,'' he said, when somebody asked about Felix Pie getting himself thrown out in a rundown after an ill-advised attempt to stretch a single on Tuesday night.
Pie's big sin was, according to the manager, "indecision." Pie took a wide turn around first base when B.J. Upton bobbled his single and then overthrew the cutoff man. Though Pie probably would have been out anyway, he should have run the play out and made the Rays make a clean play to get him. Instead, he stopped and got into a rundown, which he obviously did not escape.
It was basically the same situation when Luke Scott and Ty Wigginton got hung up in a more important situation on Monday night.
"Indecision is what gets you in trouble,'' Trembley said. "Make a decision and live with it."

While I applaud DT's ability to not apologize for idiotic baserunning mistakes, it's been the hallmark of his tenure as O's manager. And what's ironic about that is that when he was hired he droned on and on about how he was going to return to team to fundamentals and accountability.

Thanks for clearing that one up, Pete.
I think the O's fans are hitting 60 day disabled list... )-:

I absolutely agree. I have no respect for a man who can't make up his mind. Hey Pie, quick bein' a freakin' pansy and make a decision, for cryin' out loud!

Isn't baserunning, like so many of the other baseball fundamentals that the O's have seemed woefully insufficient at under Trembley, something that can be coached? Something convenient about a manager on the hotseat once again hanging his players out (just like he did in the waning months of 2009 season).
In any industry, if you're the boss and your employees are screwing up basic things on a consistent basis, and your team overall continually falls short of goal, at some point you can't blame the individuals reporting to you.

good players get paid good money to play smart. upton "juked " pie, the rays were waiting for the hotdog to make his mistake, and he complied.

Baserunning can indeed be coached and easily also. All it takes it having the runner go to first or the batters box and be told of some situation say one on one out top eight and then act out what is the best play for him to make given that someone say hits a single, or the infielder muffs the grounder. This is bread and butter of fifth grade little league. This is like bunting it just takes lots of practice eg why spring training exists.

Hey Pete, you still on the Dave Trembley train?
Poor baserunning is fixed by the coaching staff. Period. Should have been done in spring training.

'Make a decision and live with it.' Hmm. That's very good advice, Dave. Very good, indeed. I hope it's not lost on your boss, Mr. MacPhail. I hope he makes the decision to fire you. Cuz trust me, we'll live with it.

Has anyone ever seen the New Dave Trembley, or is he just some urban legend?
