Off to see the lizard

Frankly, I had a choice between giving you an instant update on Brian Matusz's second exhibition start or putting up a picture of me holding a small alligator for no apparent reason. I'm pretty sure I made the wrong choice, but I'll be right back with some info on Matusz's first inning and a Brian Roberts update from Jeff Zrebiec.

Just to clarify. I'm at the game at Ed Smith Stadium. The photo is from a roadside attraction I stopped at last weekend. I'll probably post at least one more photo from that excursion during the game.

Here's the instant update:

Matusz gave up two runs on two doubles and a single in the first inning, but recorded three strikeouts to get out of the inning.

MLB.com's Live Boxscore doesn't have any info on balls and strikes, but I'm guessing Matusz's ratio was pretty good.

Are you gonna make a belt out of that?

brandon,

Watchstrap, maybe.

Pete, How did you get Zrebiec to hold still so long? (kiddng, Jeff!)

I circumnavigated the entire state of Florida (literally Tallahassee down the gulf coast thru Tampa, across Alligator Alley, down and back thru Key West and back up the Atlantic coast up I-95) and I never saw a side of the road Gator Show.

Very disappointing, really wanted to see me some gators!

Yeah, a Jimmy Buffett reference.

I prefer WDWGDAS but that depends on the company I keep.

Nice legs, Pete.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
