Zrebiec: Bergesen on track
Orioles starting pitcher Brad Bergesen is scheduled to throw off flat ground today, the start of a program that, without any setbacks, should have him pitching off the mound by late next week. Bergesen will alternate flat ground sessions and off days for the next six days, which realistically could put him on the mound for the first time next Sunday.
Team officials are confident that Bergesen, who strained his shoulder while filming an Orioles commercial in early December, will be ready long before the start of the regular season.
“He’s right there,” said pitching coach Rick Kranitz. “He really looked good the day. His arm action was very strong.”

Good to hear. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Should I be getting excited about the bullpen? I did like what I saw from Mickolio last year. I like Johnson and Gonzo at the end. Koji the long man? We'll see. If he can stay healthy, I believe he'll be a big part of any success the birds have.

The Orioles are going out of their way to put a happy face on Bergenson's injury, obviously embarrassed by how it happened. I think there is a good possibility that he starts the season on the 15 day DL, with all of the off days and bad weather. Even after all of the spin by the Organization, there is no firm date for him to start throwing off the mound. Until he does it on consecutive days and reports no stiffness, he is a question mark. It's not a question of panicking, the kid hurt his arm two and half months ago and still hasn't thrown off the mound. It was more than a "tweak". I hope he does get on the mound next Sunday and that all goes well. We shall see.

Bergie could make a huge difference for the O's this year. He made a really dumb mistake in December. I'd like to think that he's too smart to make another one. This team does not have a big margin of error. What it has is already filled by the owner.

Bergeson is not a lock for our rotation anyways.
Many young starters have pitched well for 3 months and than have faded or even pitched themselves out of the majors after a stunning rookie season for a variety of reasons. He has to prove himself especially with the lost time after the original injury

Seems like the timetable is set to me. Conspiracy mode: off.

Hey Waspman, the schedule to throw off the mound by next Sunday is contingent. I hope it happens, and I don't believe in conspiracies. I think Oswald acted alone. But this young man hurt his arm in early December and the Orioles kept it secret while he rehabbed in baltimore, until just before Spring Training.I believe it was more serious than they let on or the kid would be pitching off the mound by now.
Let's all hold our judgement until the young man throws off the mound two consecutive days and declares himself healthy. I for one, am skeptical of good news injury stories coming out of this organization and with good reason.
As "Not Brooks", one of the greatest posters we ever had{who signed off after being called names day after day} used to say,
"Prove me wrong, Andy"!
