Tonight's filler post
I'm chuckling a little bit at the notion that it's another sign of the Orioles apocalypse that I've got no roster moves to comment on today. My God people, are there teams out there that make a move every day in the offseason?
And, while I'm on the subject, just which quality teams are burning up the headlines right now? I just stopped over at ESPN.com and you've got a choice between Cliff Lee's minor foot surgery, Steve Phillips' comments about sex rehab (which I will be reading, by the way), and the Brewers building a statue of Bud Selig outside Miller Park.
If you want, I could pull a few strings and get the Orioles to build a statue of Peter Angelos outside Camden Yards, but otherwise, there just isn't a whole lot happening during the week before spring training camps open. By the middle of next week, you'll be buried up to your eyeballs in Orioles info -- both here and in the paper -- but I'm kind of happy it's a quiet week. I'm resting my fingers for the big blog push that starts soon after I arrive in Sarasota on Monday.
I'll be the first to admit that the earth didn't move for me this offseason, but if you're criticizing the O's because they didn't sign a couple fringe relievers during the blizzard, you might be getting cabin fever.
And, yes, Wayne, that means you...I mean me...I mean...oh, never mind.

The only way Peter Angelos would deserve a statue would be if he sold the team to Cal Ripken, Jr. so the team would finally have somebody people like signing the checks.
Even then, any statue of Angelos would be vandalized beyond belief and it would be an embarrassment.

Pete, Pete, Pete
I've said over and over that it's not your fault.... I meant it!
I also said you'll be kicking it non stop once down in sota.
I almost dread it though since you'll be getting the warehousers all hyped over another losing season in Baltimore.
Question though Pete...... Did you know AM's record was as bad as it's been the past 16 years? That he's won in the 60's 7 of the last 10 years? Ok, take out his first year in Baltimore. Even so though, it's still remarkably bad.
Did you know?

Well, either Mr. Schmuck's psychic, or he knew more than he was letting on when he made the post...
I go from here to mlbtraderumors.com and see:
Morosi reports (via Twitter) that the Orioles have signed lefty reliever Will Startup to a minor league contract. The 25-year-old missed all of 2008 and most of 2009 with injuries, though prior to that he had a 2.56 ERA and held lefties to a .206 batting average in 175.2 career minor league innings. He spend last season in the Padres' system.

Pete, is the reason that you're not replying as much to questions on the blog related to the rumor that MASN has hired you to team with Jim Hunter? I've heard people say the new team will be know as Schmuck and the dumb f&^k.

From the Dept. of Odd Facts:
Throughout his career Will Startup has never started a game...
Now the O's just need to add a starter named Closer and a closer named Middle Relief.

If they put up a statue of Angelos, I predict that the pigeons will have to wait in line for their turn.

Chris -
Couldn't find any Closers, but the O's could see if former Rockies catcher J.D. Closser wants to give pitching a try.
Couldn't find a Relief either, but Desi Relaford is only 36 and he could be an ultra utility man if he learned how to pitch.
