Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in
The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.

Pete, how does Guthrie look this year? Do you think last year was just a bad year or do you think the league caught up with him?

Do you need tickets for the intrasquad game? Or, can you just show-up? Finally, do you know what time the game is supposed to start? Thanks Peter.

Is it just me, or does Wiggy look a little slimmer this year?

Great news about Tillman's back. For a minute there, I was worried that it might have been kidney stones.

Having grown-up in the 70's, any mention of Oriole intrasquad games makes me think of when 1st base coach George Staller managed one team ("Staller's Maulers") and 3rd base coach Billy Hunter managed the other ("Hunter's Bunters"). I could say the names "orange" and "black" just don't cut it for me, but I guess it's more important that the participants know who their 'cut'-off men are!

i think if guthrie can keep the ball down and he doesnt give up that stupid homerun every single game he should be fine. also last season he was at hte WBC and couldnt work on his stuff

I love it when the Orange plays the Black. Every strikeout is balanced by someone being struck out. Every HR is balanced by someone who yielded the tape-measure shot.
And it's a guaranteed .500 record -- the best for the O's in years.

The Oriole projected starting staff is too "shaky". Way to much reliance on young, unproven arms.
Andy - for the sake of stability please sign a solid free agent such as Washburn!!

Wiggy already saying he expects to get his 400+ at-bats. And on the same day Trembley was talking about the team being more important than the individual.
Can we please ditch this guy somewhere in the Florida swamplands?

Steve,
Chill out. This year is all about seeing the young pitchers step up. I'd much rather see Tillman or Arietta than Washburn, wouldn't you? Plus either of those I'd bet will have a better year
