Tejada: Feeling at home
Miguel Tejada went through his first workout with his old and new teammates this afternoon and said he felt "like a new man."
The implication was that he had finally put all of his off-field trouble behind him and was returning to the Orioles with a clean slate. He actually was the one who brought up the past during his first extended interview with the Baltimore media and a few national reporters, but said that he was confident that he'll still have a good relationship with Orioles fans.
I think he's right, because -- unlike some of the other players tainted by baseball's steroid scandal -- Tejada has largely taken his medicine (if you'll pardon that expression). He has apologized repeatedly for his trangressions, which include his identification in the Mitchell Report, an age discrepancy and a year's probation for lying to congressional investigators about steroids.
"I don’t think about that,'' Tejada said. "Everybody knows what kind of person I am. I always say that everybody passes it through a lot of things. Everybody knows that I don’t hurt nobody. Whatever happened, happened. After everything is over, I never think that anybody is going to treat me bad because a hundred times, I apologized for what I did. Everybody knows that and everybody knows when I take the field, I respect the game on the field. That’s most important."
Tejada comes back to a team that has a handful of familiar faces in the clubhouse and a roomful of promising young players. He may be the oldest player on the team, but he said he doesn't feel that way.
"They make me feel young,'' he said. "They are going to be playing hard and I’m going to try to do the same thing. Everybody knows that I love this game, that I play this game hard, and I know these kids know that I’m really anxious to be a winner. I think they are going to try to give me the opportunity here."

So, taking steriods and lieing about your age for years to benefit your wallet is respecting the game? Loafing out ground balls is respecting the game?
""Everybody knows what kind of person I am"
Yup. I'm pretty sure that I know what kind of person you are

awesome to hear! i can not wait to watch this years team take the field. between having miggy back, adding millwood and our promising young stars, this should shape up to be a very exciting season.

I cannot believe this malcontent is back. Please. Tejada is sour grapes. Period. What are they thinking? The Orioles need some upbeat and very positive players on their bench. The entire team needs major attitude infusion and Tejada is not the answer. Amphibo you called it - another long season. Geez.....

I'll take a guy with some talent that's got a little gas in the tank and is searching for redemption.
I'm betting Miggy hits 300, bangs about 25 hrs, and drives in 100+. Ans I think he surprises with his defense.
And that wallet, sure that's the reason he has a good year. he wants another deal.

amphibo - Please take your whining somewhere else. Nobody wants to hear the negativism.
If the Orioles get out of the gate and fall flat on their face, fine, then you can come back and say, "I told you so!"
If come the start of September the tean is headed for another 90+ loss season, then state your case.
So if the O's are going to fail then wait till they fail, before you drop the Debbie Downer stuff on us.
Please just don't start now, when your comments make absolutely no sense whatsoever, because I guarantee you that no one wants to hear it.
Again wait until the season begins, if you're going to do it. Okay?

ruth - You have no clue...see my comment to amphibo.
To call Tejada a malcontent is the height of absurdity. Had that been the case, players like Roberts and Tejada wouldn't have welcomed him back the way the did when the Orioles were close to signing him.
Yes, Tejada was unhappy when he left Baltimore, but that's only because the team reneged on its promise to bring in other stars so the team could contend. So he had every right to be unhappy. But in his first couple of years with the team he was a very positive force both on the field and in the clubhouse.
He's a MVP who's been an All-Star multiple times; in short, he's a winner and will bring a good attitude to the team.

CORRECTION What I wrote should have read "To call Tejada a malcontent is the height of absurdity. Had that been the case, players like Roberts and Markakis wouldn't have welcomed him back the way the did when the Orioles were close to signing him.

Of all thats been said in regard to Miggie, my two cents or rather my son's two is...in his annual clean out the closet contest, he was able to salvage the Miggie T-shirt he was going to donate to good will. This may not seem like a biggie for Miggie but we have tossed the likes of Gibbons, Richard, and Bigbee.

After going to todays workout I really am optimistic. Markakis, Tejada, Atkins, Scott and even Pie were tearing the cover off the ball. The guys were chatting it up and really looked happy to be there. I wish more fans would be fired up instead of so pessimistic. I know thats what 12 straight losing seasons and an owner who doesnt make the team very accessible will get you. But its time to leave the business part alone and get down to rooting these kids on!!!

Chris T. ought to respect the Comment Board and learn how to spell the word "lying".

BOLD PREDICTION:
Miggy Tejada will lead the Orioles in average, hits and RBI in 2010. Hopefully he won't lead the team in errors too.
Welcome back Miggy.

Hey Trembley watch,
Your post isn't funny or interesting...what is your point?

I think Tejada will add a layer of excitement to this team. He isn't the same guy and the signing is not the impact signing that it was when we got him with Javy/El Syd and Raffy (and that was supposed to be the Genesis of this team?). But Miggy is cool, his colleagues love him and he has a spark. Plus his line will be:
.292/22/87
Not bad. Put him at #4. Not for his power, but for his clutch. Go Miggy!

Miguel Tejada went through his first workout with his old and new teammates this afternoon and said he felt "like a new man."
With apologies for paraphrasing the late George Carlin ...
Vitamin B-12 makes me feel like a new man, and the first thing the new man wanted was more Vitamin B-12.
Put him at 3B. He doesn't belong there but we have no one else. Bat him #4. He doesn't belong there but we have no one else. A layer of excitement, indeed.
