O's: Trembley on Mickolio
Reliever Kam Mickolio came to camp 10 pounds lighter and in much better shape than a year ago, which has manager Dave Trembley wondering if this is going to be a breakout year for another of the players Andy MacPhail acquired in the Erik Bedard deal.
"I'd be very surprised if he doesn't do what we think he can do,'' Trembley said. "He's got to show us...but I think he knows what's on the table for him."
That's as close as Trembley is going to get to saying that Mickolio has a job in the bullpen to lose, but everyone saw flashes last year of what the lanky right-hander can do when he's on his game.

When the Bedard trade was completed, Mickolio was a player with potential to be very good as a late inning reliever. His main negative was a lack of experience. I believe he didn't start playing baseball until college. Mickolio has put up very good numbers in the minors and has been good enough to get some major league exposure. Hopefully, the experience will allow him to make the necessary adjustments to fulfill his potential. I'd really like to see him earn a spot in the bullpen and he north with the big league team.
Pete, what's the word on the 5th player the O's received for Bedard, Tony Butler? I know he's had injury problems since his arrival and I believe he only managed a handful of innings late last year.

How is Jake looking? How is one suppose to answer that? Seriously..... They've been throwing for what? A few days at the most?
How's this:
Arrieta may have lost a pound or two. I did notice he was sweating a little today. And oh.... he wears his pants a little lower that last year.
There Pete, now you can wait til the guy actually throws in a game.

This why the board is how it is Anonymous in honor of wayne...(and while your forced to post under a diff name)
you think only your comments are relevant!

well unlike most on here i am smarter than you and i understand baseball.
so go back to your sad pathetic little world and let the grownups talk baseball

Thank you for proving my point
BTW been an Os fan over 40 years but in the world of anonymous posters ill bet you are indeed a grown up!

Dude, you really are pathetic! Do you really understand how much?
Everyone.... I mean everyone knows you're not wayne. So when you post as wayne, people know it's not you!
You need this because people notice and pay attention to wayne. They never paid attention to you. Peter never did, and no one else who has a life noticed you as well.
So this is how you get it. This is really your life. This is really what you do.
It's fine though. Far be it for me to take the only thing you have in life away.

Pete thanks for taking my question seriously..:(
You are right in the other topic when you stated something to the effect of "angry" people taking this blog down.
but when the season starts and the Os continue to grow ill bet all this animosity dries up, otherwise ill just stick to watching the game.

Wayne, I know when you post vs. the imposters, by your style. I hope the old gang will also come back and give it another try. You are always talking baseball, the counterfeiter is always talking about you. It's pretty simple. You can post all you want before Noon, the counterfeiter stayed up all night playing x box and won't be on until later after Mommy gets him up and makes him a late breakfast.

What I've seen of Mickolio is a guy that has closer stuff when he gets his arm slotted right. That' always been a tough thing for tall pitchers to master, as us Oriole fans know all too well from watching Caberara's struggles.
But the O's have given Kam the opportunity to work in the minors and work out of the pen which afforded him two big advantages. He's been working under less pressure and he's has to master fewer pitches.
Really tall guys tend to want to drop down to the side and out of their normal arm slot anyways, so Kam also has another advantage that he's been developed as a side armer.
He's a whole different look for hitters to deal with, lots of arms and legs and the ball is hard to find, then it gets on a hitter really quick. He's not lobbing it in there like most side armers. Which makes him a whole different look then Meridith.
Koji and Hernandez are two more RH starters that will probably get thrown into the BP mix. Koji's closed in Japan before and showed an ability to get ML batters out one or two times through the lineup as a starter with his pinpoint control.
I wouldn't be surprised if Trembley didn't use Koji as an occassional closer if Gonzo's been run out a couple days in a row. He can probably also give a couple of innings with a day or two of rest in between. Big thing to watch will be wearing him down, he'll have to be protected a little like Baez was last year.
Hernandez showed some real SO stuff last year, problem was he threw a lot of pitches and wore down by the 4th or 5th many times out. He's a guy that his stuff translates to the BP. He can come in and pitch like his "hair is on fire" for an inning. I think he could make the successful move to the pen like Johnson did.
Berken's problems were often in the first, I think he was pitching way over his head level wise last year and needs to be slotted as a starter at Norfolk for the year.
With the arrival of Millwood and Matusz and Tillman's successful trails last year the BP gets stronger with the addition of Koji and Hernandez. The BP should also no have to be raided to get an emergancy starter like it did last year.
Berken, Arrieta, Patton, Erbe, and Britton will all be prepping in the minors to take their turn in the rotation when needed. Britton may start in Bowie, but he could well be the most talented of this next wave. Hopefully the O's won't need him until Sept.

Hey Peter Is Camden Yards the only stadium that does not show there past acomplishments visible for fans ?(not counting the main concourse behind home plate) At all the other stadiums it seems like Pennants and WS flags are extremely visible from every seat. The casual fan who heads to camden yards has no idea of the success of the past teams. Why
