Orioles: Miggi is here

The clubhouse isn't open yet, because the Orioles have physicals before the first full-squad workout, but if you were wondering, Miguel Tejada has arrived in camp, according to several people around the facility.

Not that it was a huge deal. Technically, the players aren't even required to report by today. The mandatory reporting date, according to the collective bargaining agreement, is actually Mar. 2 this year. The earlier reporting dates are voluntary, though they are treated by the clubs and the players as the real deadlines. No one, however, can be fined for being late until after the CBA date.

You guys must be really bored down there if you think that this is news. We can't wait to hear what Miggi had for lunch.

Hey Pete-
Let me know if you see a #4 hitter or #1 starter anywhere there too.

I was in Sarasota for 5 days, most of the locals don't know or care that the O's are there, but let me tell ya, I know the O's are glad to be there. The upgrade from Ft Laudy is night and day. And can't but help the maturation, maybe even chemistry development of this primarily young team. Heads should be up O's fans. Straight up.

M - Actually, it is news of a sort; not huge news, but news nonetheless.

Considering that Tejada's making a position change that's going to be a work in progress, it's important that he get in as much work at third as possible.

Now it's quite possible, for all we know, that he's been working out on his own in this regard, but that's not a certainty by any means.

Also, as a veteran it's good to know that he's there to encourage the youngsters and inject some of the energy for which he's famous.

And Pete actually provides here some information that I didn't know (and I suspect most Oriole fans didn't know) about the CBA.

@ M - I guess you weren't in this blog yesterday. People were acting like because Tejada wasn't in camp already the gods were angry. No big deal; that's life in blogworld.

Hey that's Good News, all right! First time in years I'm looking forward to the season.

kevin milwood or guthirie.or no.i starter mig teq. no. 4 hitter

see if miggi brought his birth certificate to training camp, we can verify how old he is....

Was it always "Miggi?" I seem to remember writing it as "Miggy."

Pete's reply: I used to go with Miggy, but he writes Miggi on his gloves, so I'll let him decide.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
