MASN's deep bench
MASN's Orioles broadcast crew is starting to take shape, and it looks like it will be a fairly deep lineup once Mike Flanagan is back in the booth, sharing the main color analyst role with Jim Palmer.
Jeff Zrebiec reported Sunday that as many as four former Orioles players will rotate as the third guy on the TV broadcasts. Eddie Murray, Brady Anderson and Mike Boddicker appear to be three of them, with the identity of the fourth still a subject for speculation. If I was guessing, I'd guess Bill Ripken, but I'll just wait and see what happens.
I'll be interested to see how it all sounds. Anderson is a bright guy and a good talker and Boddicker is another link to the club's glory days. I'm not quite sure what to say about the delicious irony of Eddie turning up as a member of the media, albeit as an employee of the team's broadcast network.

I can hear a summer full of Eddie's insight now, "that's right", "uh huh", "oh yeah", silence & repeat. The man of very few words now getting paid to talk. The irony is pure Charm City.Should be a very informitive season.

Is it unusual that one of my nipples is a different color than the other two ??

I say bring in Brooks Robinson.

Pete, I imagine that Brady, Eddie and Mike will work the most with Jim Hunter so I think all three of those guys will add some spice to the perpetually boring Jimmy Hunter. When they've used Brady as a guest commentator in the past, I thought he was pretty good on the mic and I think Boddicker will give some good insight considering how long he played and the type of player he was. I am actually pleased with the guys they picked as I thought they would go with Dempsey, Johnson or Davis. I am not sure I could take a summer of those three.

Flanagan was a terrific broadcaster in his HTS days.I can't wait to hear his wry humor again along with his solid analysis.

flanny's voice is too nasaly. anderson's voice isn't great for radio. billy ripken would be great, knowledgeable and very funny

I believe that Murray was a "man of few words" by choice with the press. Since his playing career has ended, I've heard him do interviews where he was talkative, insightful, and even cheerful.

Who were we expecting Drungo Hazewood?
Im cool with Eddie one of my favorite Orioles.

Does Flanigan have pictures of Orioles brass? Why is he still around? Bring back Brother Lo!
Posted by: Mike | February 22, 2010 8:08 AM
I'll watch the game on t.v. and listen on the radio.Flanagan is terrible.

why the hate towards flanny ? i think he's insightful , got a dry wit ,.... just because he's not rah-rah doesn't make him a bad choice .

Brother Lo!
One of my favorites of all time.

My question is the first time that Gary Thorne turns to Eddie Murray and says"What did you think of that play Eddie?"....will Murray refuse to comment?
Posted by: tony | February 22, 2010 9:37 AM
I will still take Eddie over Monotone Mike Flanagan!

Pete, who's on the rest of the broadcast crew?
Also, would you ask MASN why they have to scatter the Orioles over the 2 channels and not place them on 1 channel so I know where to expect the games to be. In short give the Orioles and Nationals their own channels.

Eddie Murray is extremely hateful towards fans. I resent his hiring. I've had the misfortune of interacting with him at Cal Ripken's Winter FanFest event and around the player's parking lot before and after games. VERY POOR DECISION! He can go back to the LA 'hood.

bring Brooks Robinson back to the booth!
Posted by: pop fisher | February 22, 2010 11:23 AM
I'm with you boomer. He also hatred the media and now he's one of them. Hypocrite!
I was at a game at Memorial Stadium one time right by the dugout and Eddie literally attacked a Home Team Sports cameraman who was so inconsiderate to aim the camera towards him. Great baseball player, horrible human being!

I agree! I miss Brother Lo !!!!!! He was a great color comentator! He used to make me laugh on a nightly basis!
HTS had a great team of broadcasters back in the day! John Lowenstein & Mel Proctor in the booth and everyone's favorite, Tom Davis on the field. What a great team!

The first time Gary Thorne calls in a 3 RBI homer I'm outta there. Who ever called it that? It's a 3 RUN homer. Go back to hockey...Aye....And it's if he's not even watching the game. A ball thrown high and outside is called low and inside, he's all over the place. But he's perfect for radio, cause you have to take his word for it. Just not good...

This is for anyone who likes the hiring of Eddie Murray as a color analyst, please share with me any firsthand personal interaction you had with this man that was anyway positive.
I've never witnessed one and have been in his presense on numerous occasions where he is outright arrogant in his hatred of fans.
Posted by: Boomer | February 22, 2010 12:53 PM
Don't cut on Eddie, he is actually a nice guy. Brady is the dick. Or should I say gets.
Posted by: GregB | February 22, 2010 1:29 PM
Murray is simply a no-nonsense guy who as a player, never saw the need to pretend he was comfortable with media rhetoric.
Let's be real here.... reporters ask really stupid questions at times and Eddie's focus was on actual.... not virtual.... baseball and the game situation at hand.
I don't believe he ever "hated" fans.
I've seen him signing autographs at length on many occasions.
I don't think he ever "hated" the media, either. He just didn't feel obligated to facilitate their foolishness.
As a commentator, I look for a different, looser, more personable Murray.... one out to execute his defined role to the best of his ability.... just as he did as a player.

"Hey! Hey down there! Hey hot dog man! Up here!" Brother Lo...somewhere in the 80's.

If there's ever a game involving any player who used performance enhancing drugs, I bet Brady isn't doing that game.
Posted by: B12 | February 22, 2010 2:22 PM
There will never be another Brooks Robinson; be it on the field, in the booth or as a human being. When God made Brooks he broke the mold.

I have to strongly question how any of you could be that detailed on his personality without having been around him enough to know what type of person he is??
If you dont like him based on a few times you have seen him or heard about him or read his quotes..well than that is just wrong!
maybe when you asked for an autograph you were being pushy or disrespectful and didnt understand you were the problem.
nothing against any of your testimonies on here about Eddie...but i will give him the benefit of the doubt as he was a great Oriole in his time here!!

In reading about the Orioles broadcast lineup for 2010, I am amazed that Mr. Palmer doesn't appear on the radar. I am fed up with his motor-mouth, know it all constant chattering. The extension of his contract is a bad move. The best guy and most knowledgeable was Buck Martinez and he has fled for greener pastures - the O's loss - too bad. Is it too late to bump Palmer

CNC Orioles Fan, the reason MASN refuses to have the Orioles and Nationals on separate channels is one simple word: money. They don't have the viewers yet to make a MASN MD and a MASN DC a reality, so they're simply haivng the teams switch places every once in a while.
I mean, MASN doesn't even have enough programming to fill ONE channel, what in the world makes you think they have enough to fill TWO?
And anyway, the O's always broadcast their upcoming schedule during the games, so they tell you flat-out what game is on what channel. Not to mention there's only 2 channels. If the game's not on MASN1, then it's on MASN2, which is typically where CSPAN2 and Comcast Plus (i.e. where they show Wizards/Capitals/NCAA Basketball games that are going on at the same time as a game on Comcast regular.
And if you despise MASN2, then don't go to Boston during the latter months of the year. Red Sox, Celtics, AND Bruins games are all televised under the same station: NESN. And just imagine if SNY ever folded and you'd have to have Yankees, Mets, Nets, Rangers, Islanders, and Knicks all on the same channel.
So yea, get used to O's on one channel and Nats on the other, it ain't changing.

Get rid of Jim Palmer. Most boring color guy on TV. Too long winded.
