Good news

For all of you who were either concerned about or upset with my decision to pick the Patriots to win tomorrow's game at Gillette Stadium, I have some good news. I was absolutely certain the Cincinnati Bengals would handle the New York Jets today, and I'm now 0-1 in my Wild Card picks.

Hey, if I could pick football games, I'd be in Vegas lying next to one of those fancy swimming pools on The Strip letting supermodels feed me fresh fruit. So, maybe I'm on a reverse role and the Ravens will have no trouble with Tom Brady and the Pats.

Congrats to Rex Ryan, who tried to tell everyone how good his team was, and Mark Sanchez, who played a near-perfect game to knock the AFC North champions out of the playoffs. I feel bad for Marvin Lewis, but both Rex and Marvin are good guys and one of them was going to be disappointed.

Sell the team Peter!!!

My take: I'm happy for The Hawk, and I'm pretty sure Alomar cruises in next year, but I can't figure out why Blyleven twists in the wind every year. The guy won 287 games and ranked third all time in strikeouts when he retired. He also pitched well in the postseason (5-1, 2.47 ERA) and helped two teams win world titles. I just don't get it.
PETE...off topic, but don't forget 50 some shutouts as well....Was he hard to deal with reporter wise, ala Albert Belle ? ......Another ? for you Pete....Who won the triple crown but was not voted the MVP that same year ?

J-E-T-S

Jets Jets Jets!

Im convinced the 2008/9 ravens mixed up their records. Last year should have been the 9-7 team, this year 11-5.

Another thought, imagine if the Ravens flipped their Cincy/Pitt games. Pitt at the top of their game, Cincy fading

Ravens shock the world. 26-17

good news: my family is unharmed. bad news: a lot of our stuff including the big screen is smashed or broken (its only stuff). best news: even after that HELLISH earthquake (epicenter only 23 miles away) we will sit in the ruins of our livingroom and cheer on the Ravens today watching on a tiny 13 incher, but still thankful that we are all ok. its only stuff! GO RAVENS!!!!!

O's Fan, glad you are okay--I'm from down south (OC/AKA Schmuck-Shire).

Anyway, here is some other good news/bad news.

The good news is that the Ravens have a chance to beat New England.

The bad news is that Flacco has looked frazzled and nervous most of the season. His growth seems to have slowed since the San Diego game, and he looks like a second year QB. More bad news is that Cam has not kept things simple for him, the way the Jets have kept things simple for Mark Sanchez. More bad news is that the defensive backs still play like sieves (with the exception of Tom Z.).

Predictions: My heart says Ravens 24 Pats 17. My head says Pats 27 Ravens 14.

Ravens win 24-14

ravens win easily 31-17

Hey Peter, did you notice how the Bengals blamed the refs for their loss to the Jets, and how the Eagles blamed their loss to the Cowboys on the refs? What's that you say? Only the Ravens blame the refs after every loss? Oh, sorry. You're right. My bad.

Pete's reply: When did I say that? I'm the one who has been saying that the last Patriots game, the Ravens had some legitimate gripes.

Jets got another gift in playing the Bengals. A free ticket to the 2nd round.

I'm glad the Bengals loss. and I still think anonymous is you peter.

Pete's reply: If I was going to be Anonymous, I would have started before anybody knew my real name was Schmuck.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
