« Ravens: You can breathe now | Main | Patriots: Brady's lament »

January 10, 2010

On to Indy

I've got my faults, but I'm no liar. I said that if I was wrong with my prediction that the New England Patriots would defeat the Ravens today, I'd publicly scourge myself and beg for your forgiveness.

Of course, I was always banking on you being in a forgiving mood, since everybody (who is over 21) is probably all liquored up after that resounding Ravens victory. I'm happy to see the Ravens move on for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that this is a very dead time to be a Baltimore sports columnist if there is no local involvement in the NFL postseason.

Now, I've got a dilemma. Considering that I picked the Ravens to beat the Steelers and they lost, then picked the Ravens to lose today and they won, I'm thinking I almost have to pick the Colts next week or risk being viewed as a jinx. I'm going to have to conjure on that one for awhile.

Any advice?

I agree with you Pete--and not just because I nearly attended Cal State Fullerton (actually, I did for about 10 minutes).

I said my heart picked the Ravens, and my head picked the Patriots, which made sense.

Honestly, the Ravens caught the Patriots on the right day. The Ravens had the best case scenario during the first quarter--and once Tom decided that starting his vacation was a better option than the divisional playoff in San Diego, the writing was on the wall.

Just for Wayne I'll add another score for the Colts next week....
Colts 41 Ravens 10
Go Peyton!!!!

Yeah, I have some advise. Don't worry about who you are going to pick, because the Colts are going to win regardless. Manning has decided that he shall not lose, and his word is final. It doesn't matter who is injured, or what team is across the field from him.

Besides that, it doesn't matter, because there are no real football fans in Baltimore anyway. I know this because shamefully low attendance forced the Colts to leave your ungrateful town, and go out to the midwest, where we support our teams through thick or thin. The worst you will have to deal with from fair weather fans like that is a couple days of grumbling, and they'll forget about the Ravens until they make it to the playoffs again, when they come out of the woodwork, and pretend they know something about thier team, or the game of football.

Colts troller. It's "advice," not "advise."

Colts troller. It's "advice," not "advise."

Hey Colts Fan,
We had you clowns the last time but Joe choked and get your facts straight numbnut, The low attendance was from your pathetic owners whom had the audacity to trade the greatest quarterback in football to San Diego without the courtesy of a phone call.
So, we will kick your butts for a change just for Johnny U.

It doesn' t matter, all the Colts fans (much like the Pats fans) have already pronounced us dead. As all Ravens fans know, we can't beat a team with a top flight QB. Right?

Hey Pete,

Do whatever you have to. I personally would have a problem betting on the Colts...given my disdain for the franchise. Can I ask you this???...Who the hell thought the Ravens would flat-out crush the Patriots in Foxborough? I see the same formula that got us to the Superbowl last time is what we are banking on as of late. Good news. So how are the Colts at stopping the run? I like our chances....

...crossing my fingers.

Any one, whether from Indiana or Indonesia, knows that "pathetic attendance" had little to do with the Colts leaving Crabtown. Drunken ownership, and the John Steadman-led boycott of exhibition (oops, sorry "Preseason") games at full price forced onto season ticket holders culminated in perhaps the most underhanded, slimy sports rape ever committed on a city (and, no, the moving of the Browns to Baltimore isn't even in the same universe, despite what some Lake Erie-ites want to believe). Fans of the current Colts need to understand that. BTW, do you think if the Ravens win next SAturday, Colt ownership will give back the Johnny U jersey and other artifacts that the Irsays stole?

Yeah, yeah Peter all the columnist are eating crow er uh raven! You will be picking the Colts next week just like the rest of them and then when the Ravens win you will be back tracking like this week. None of you have any credibility.I'm just waiting for Lee's and Prsetons "I was wrong" columns. We already got your's and Cowherd's.

Once, just once, the Ravens have to beat the Colts in the playoffs.

Once for March 29, 1984's sake.

I LOVE IT! They're becoming the Braves up there. Just think... the Ravens knocked the Pats out of the playoffs two straight years...

great post SHAMROCK!

Kevin In Iraq, thanks for your service, take great care and I hope you got to see or hear the game!

I would love to see the Ravens Jets in the AFC Championship, Ravens Vikes in the Super Bowl. Man, the NFL would be p!ssed. i think Fans would be p!ssed listening to all the Favre talk for 2 weeks.

I don't know what this Colts fan is talking about, the Ravens not having real fans. When I went to a Ravens-Colts game in Indy a few years ago, the noise level was about like going to a Wizards game.

Hey Brian Adams, when we're up by 30 points on the Ravens, our stadium does get pretty quiet. When you've beaten the ravens 7 straight times, it becomes pretty ho-hum.

Hey Wilson!

Your team is more lucky than good! It is too bad that Peyton Manning didn't take the same route that John Elway took and disdain the Irsay family.

Indianapolis sold its soul to get Irsay and the Colts and eventually there will be the devil to pay.

'bout this time last week there was a lot of big-talking Pats fans around here ... WHERE DEY NOW???

So keep talking, cuz it just makes a Ravens W all the sweeter

Colts Fan, don't lecture us on attendance. The Colts struggled for sellouts until the arrival of Manning and double-digit wins every year. I am quite sure once Indy reaches eight or less wins per year, you dear folks will go back to grazing with your cattle.

Oh, and the Ravens have sold out every game, win or lose.

As for the Irsay-era in Baltimore, I'd give you a history lesson but I learned long ago you can't teach a dolt who is unable to learn. Moo.

to the Indy scum on this board:

I, sadly, live in your city and know from first hand experience your fans are the worst in football. I've seen bars clear out at halftime when you're winning or losing, no matter how close the game; you care that little. Last year, I watched the city stop watching football because the colts had a few losses. More people in Indy were watching cartoons yesterday than football, since you all have no interest in the sport itself.

I can't believe you'd call Baltimore, the greatest city on earth, a fair weather city when we sell out every game and your crummy town will have half filled stadiums if the team isn't perfect (please see 1986-2004 attendance). Also, please see this years attendance http://espn.go.com/nfl/attendance . Oh by the way, at least Baltimore didn't have to expand its borders by 300% and include the lousy suburbs to attract a football team.

"Whom had?" "Advise" instead of "advice". If you're going to beat up on each other, at least do it in semi-literate fashion. Pick the Ravens, Pete. You're better off with the proletariat. Cheers, BG

If it ain't broke, don't fix it....Pete, you have to pick the Clots. We're a pretty forgiving bunch for the most part....at least I am.

Altho I must admit I still haven't forgiven the Irsays....and never will.

bill fred,

you just showed your ass dude..... it's everything anyone needs to know about you.

Will be interesting to see where the currently 6 1/2 point spread goes this week. I think it gets a little tighter.

Best game for Ray Lewis in two years.
Great job by Cam Cameron in adjusting to the early lead, especially after Flacco threw the pick (which was basically a great defensive play)

Look for Joe Flacco to really light it up indoors. There are no dominant teams in football anymore; anything can happen and probably will.

Cundiff from 49 yards for the win.

Pete,

Thanks for the updates from New England! Unlike some others, you actually work while on the road.....

That said, I find the difference in how the Sun covers the Ravens as compared to the Orioles amazing.

With the Ravens, none of you are intimidated in the slightest. Each of you give honest, unbiased commentary without being concerned there will be a Ravens organization backlash.

With the Orioles however, the difference is striking and incredibly obvious.

Thanks again for the Raven reporting and commentary. As for the Orioles, we can only hope things change at the warehouse in the near future. We the fans can hope for such, as I know many in the media feel the same way.

BF

No wonder you hate the Orioles so much hahah Scumbag!

Why don't you not say anything? Maybe you should work the business section this week and make wall street predictions instead.

Waspman is right on. Before Manning, they were talking about moving the Colts again!! They had terrible attendance in that hole they played in. ColtsFan is either too young to remember how the Colts were stolen from us, or just a total moron! I think the later. Hope Ray Lewis has another game like this one in him. Here's hoping Flacco's leg heals this week I think he will need to throw more than ten passes and needs more than 4 completions. But, they still need to set the tone with the running game. GO Ravens!!!!

While you're at it, why don't you admit you were wrong to predict that the Bengals would easily win over the Jets?

126.5 is next week's magic number.

That's the amount of rushing yards the Colts allowed per game this season.

Rice, McGahee and McClain need to be ready for next Sunday. Rush the heck out of the Colts and hope that the defense can contain Peyton and that crazy passing attack.

how this sound indianapolis orioles

First, Ravens win 24-17.
Second, SP your an idiot. The Orioles are not moving to Indiananoplace; the O's have a long-term lease that has about 12 years to run and it's owned by a area resident. Also, if MLB was going to put a franchise in youir town, don't you think it would have happened by now?
Third, in my heart, I know that if Elway doesn't refuse to play for Irsay and Frank Kush, the Colts would have never left. We would have sold that stadium out in '83. (Just like Indy started doing after Peyton was drafted) Also, as someone said before, if one of your first moves is to trade away the team icon, you, as an owner, have to be perfect to win back the fans. And heaven knows that Bob Irsay was one of the worst owners in NFL history.

Sorry about the typo, I meant "you're" not "your".

Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
