Insufferable self-promotion dept.
This is one of those rare days when you're forced to endure a double dose of Schmuck. I already had written my News Item column -- which you can read right here -- when the news broke that Miguel Tejada was headed back to Baltimore.
So, being the good Baltimore Sun employee that I am, and because I want to continue receiving regular checks with Baltimore Sun written on them, I accepted an invitation to double up and write a column about Miggy (Some call him Miggi, I call it a slingblade) for today's print edition.
If you want to read that one, you can check out the great FanFest package in the print edition, which includes the terrific coverage from Jeff Zrebiec, or just keep the focus exclusively on me right here. I'll understand. There also is some great video from the Fest included with my column, which will help you feel like you were there even if you decided to stay home with Wayne yesterday and watch cartoons.
By the way, I have to tip my cap to the O's for putting FanFest back in the Convention Center and putting on a pretty good show. I never would have imagined that more than 12,000 fans would come out just to see me and Roch.
Obviously, you can't really see all 12,000 people crowded around us in the accompanying photo, but we felt the love and Roch wanted me to pass along how much he appreciated it, too. Frankly, I thought he was a little taller in real life.

Two Warehousers posing in front of the Warehouse from which they do their Warehousing.
Just found the man (men) on the grass knoll, Schmuck and Roch!

My 2 favorite sportswriters!
I'm finally over the Ravens loss & I'm not as excited as some, but I look forward to this years O's. I believe there is tremendous potential and I can't wait to see the kids play.

Pete's reply: Thanks, Kevin. Great to hear from you and hope you're comfortable and safe. Don't listen to Shamrock, he secretly has a man-crush on Roch and is constantly sending him perfumed letters.

SHAMROCK,
As far as shameless self promotion conspiracies are concerned, I am convinced the Peter Schmuck acted alone.

Shamrock... hmmmm.... Sham... Roch?
A ha! He IS an employee of the warehouse!
Maybe next year they can hold FanFest in Hawaii. I'm sure the players and coaches wouldn't mind.
I know both me and Chuck would probably be there.
And Pete could pick up a decade's supply of Aloha shirts!

Pete,
Please take down that picture for the love of christ! Between Roch's roided man boobs and your creepy pedo look on your face... Not gonna lie man I am pretty terrified right now... Please this is a family oriented website! When we use profanity you are quick to take it down! You gotta do the same to this picture.

What’s that creepy joke Roch always says when Amber interviews him during games on MASN? LOL It’s totally not funny at all but I still laugh at the general creepiness and awkward situation it creates throughout the course of the interview…

Did Roch just get back from a audition for a straight to DVD sequel of Pirates of the Caribbean? Did Jerry Seinfeld give him that mess of a shirt and tell him to wear it as a joke? Oh and Pete how many copies of the yellow pages are you standing on?
Posted by: John | January 24, 2010 1:52 PM
How much scotch was poured in that Diet Coke bottle and are you wearing velour? What happened to Aloha shirts and a mai tai?? Your losing your edge Pete….

Really, wayne?
Pete calls you on your bull and you decide to personally attack him under various names?
The time line is too obvious.
Grow up.

So, what's he (Shamrock) saying, that both of you look like a warehouse???!
Posted by: BobbyWoontz | January 24, 2010 2:11 PM
Roch = Wayne

I actually havent gotten into Roch's page. The site seems less than user friendly, i had a hard time jumping from blog to blog.
Posted by: SHAMROCK | January 24, 2010 2:51 PM
Really Chris?
And what names are you referring?
This should be good!
By the way, when I personally attack, I have no problem using my own name, especially when it's about you..... genius!
Posted by: wayne | January 24, 2010 5:53 PM
Pete.... Come on.... Put the picture up of you and me...... It's time!

You say that like watching cartoons is bad or something. While I didn't go to FanFest (didn't get off work until after 3PM), I did enjoy watching a bunch of awesome cartoons Saturday. Nothing quite like a quadruple-header of Gundam, Detective Conan, Bleach, and Saint Tail goodness to close the night.
BTW, if you know what any of those series are, you are awesome.

I just had a revelation...has the banner's background at the top of your blog always been flowers?

Mmm... Fan fest in Hawaii...
I look forward to it!

Sounds like FanFest was a good time. I wish I could have been there. Any chance of having it at the Anaheim Convertion Center next year? It could be an Orioles evangelism outreach.

hey pete...
read the News Item aritcle... speaking of Landshark/Joe Robbie/Pro-Player/Dolphins/SunLife Stadium...
what is with the NFL calling the superbowl South FLA, and not Miami? anything to do with the fact that the stadium is twice as far away from miami than BWI is from downtown BMore?

When I first saw the title of this post, I thought it was going to be about Rex Ryan.

With the dust settling a couple of days on the Tejada signing, a couple of questions pop into my head.
Who will have more RBI's this year? Bay, Holliday, Tejada?
Doubles?
Highest Slugging Percentage?
Highest Batting Average?
Homeruns?
Homers is the only offensive catagory that you can clearly say Tejada will third in. But homers aren't really as important as having a doubles machine in an RBI slot in the lineup.
Which guy plays a position of need?
And which guys would have forced Pie or Riemold's bats out of the lineup?
To DH Pie or Riemold, the O's would needed to sit Scott and his 25 homers.
So if you add up Pie, Riemold, and Tejada's production at the end of the year, and compare it to either Bay or Holliday's, it's clear that McPhail not only got a bargain, he brought in more offensive pop to the lineup then if he'd made the big money commitment.
And if he signed Bay or Holliday, he still needed a third baseman.
Not a bad signing Andy, not bad at all!
McPhail not only improved the ballclub, but he's retained his financial flexibility to make a major move next winter.
He's got the flexibility to be in the market in an offseason when Adrian, Prince, Mauer, and Hanley, could all be in play. And I'd rather have any of the 4 over Bay, or Holliday.
Once Jeter sets the bar, those guys will want to go for 20-25mil for 8-10 yrs to sign lonterm, their present clubs are going to want to dump them for a packages that includes young pitchers. And who's got young pitchers by the bucket full?
Hanley may get the biggest deal ever, and the Marlins aren't going to give it to him. I don't care if they have a new stadium, they aren't coming up with the biggest contract in major league history.
Their history has been to dump Allstars for prospects. But that's next winter...
Now it's time to look for a couple of more pitching moves, and I'd say McPhail's had a solid B+ for the winter. This team is improved enough that 75 to 85 wins should be a fair target, if not Trembley's history.

Pete, You & Roch are the best. I hope you both continue to do well. You guys bring us the scoop & make following the team fun.
I know there are possible negatives with Tejada coming back, but I for one am glad AM rolled the dice here & gave it a shot. He was the best option available. He can still hit, maybe not 30+ HR post roids, but he can hit & drive in runs. If he can just be a decent 3B, that's fine for one year. He isn't hurting any youth movement either, in fact, he may help it , & here is my reasoning... NOW they can let Bell get some real time at AAA & not be rushed. They have Wigginton as a top reserve too, his best help to any team. If either Tejada or Atkins don't hit or get hurt, they have Wigginton, who BTW, will get ABs @ DH too.
Another thing I haven't seen suggested anywhere....Tejada should be quite motivated since he probably knows about Bell & will want a monster yr heading back into the FA pool. We should see a very motivated & driven Tejada. If he jogs out a few grounders, we can try & ignore that some & trust me, I am all about hustle & like to see them run those out, but hey, even our poster boys Roberts & Markakis have jogged a few out time to time...
Third place is still probably the best they can do in this division , but at least now they should win a few more than they lose... progress & a big change.

Hey , you guys stop busting on Roch & his "growth". What else were all those former O's supposed to do with their Hgh, roids, B-12, etc. they had to give them to someone....
