Harbaugh: Stover could be back

stoverfox.jpgDuring his season-ending media conference today, John Harbaugh conceded the possibility that Matt Stover could be back in a Ravens uniform next season.

"Matt coming back?" Harbaugh said. "Sure, that's a possibility."

What he was saying, however, was that the Ravens would not be so stubborn as to rule that out if Stover turned out to be the team's best option at placekicker next year. He stood by the original decision to move past Stover and go with a single kickoff/field goal specialist this past season.

Still, it could be quite a reunion year in Baltimore if the Ravens bring back Stover and the Orioles bring back Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard. I'm getting all misty just thinking about it.

I really believe his stock has gone way up. All one needed to see was how unreliable kickers have been during this post season (see san diego and dallas).

The Colts aren't taking any chances and word is that Vinatieri is very upset that he's not active.

Matt's reliability is worth 2 roster spots for teams making a post season run.

I believe teams will line up to grab him next season.

Choke back the tears peter,
Stover is still the one.
Tejada was on my radar screen early for third.
and it is an odd year so Bedard should be healthy.
hmmmm...

What makes anybody believe that Miggy would ever consider coming back to a team that he knows is going to finish in last place, when he'll have an opportunity to play for a team that has pride & wants to win (Oakland As)?

We can't really believe that Bedard would ever consider coming back to play for a team that he and all of the baseball world know will finish in last place. Why would he do that. Are we to believe that McPhail will out bid at least 3 other teams when their offers hit the table? We know McPhail will not compete for a player's services.

Pete,

If Harbaugh brings Stover back,
I'd John is a day late and a dollar short.

If Miggy comes back, Trembley needs to go back over the rules and explain that on a two hopper to short, a right turn into the dugout is not the preferred baserunning option.

As far as Bedard, before he comes back I would have him examined by an Eye,Ear, Nose and Throat guy to see if it is medically possible to restore his speech.

The guy is 42, 43 years old. Don't you think its time the Ravens drafted or some other way acquired and developed another kicker?

Is Harbaugh even allowed to say that? Isn't that tampering?

I'll get misty-eyed if JO pulls a Michael Jordan and comes out of retirement and plays for the veteran minimum.

Could you imagine lining him up in the TE spot on a 6 lineman formation? yikes!

I watched the press conference. Harbaugh might have said, "yeah we could bring Matt back". But that's not what he meant, so the article title of Ravens may bring back Stover is quite the misnomer. What Harbaugh meant to say was that the Ravens look at every possibility to upgrade their roster and if him, Ozzie, whoever else thinks they can bring in a player to make the team better, they will. He was just using Matt Stover to demonstrate that. Some of these Ravens Insider tidbits are just misconstrued words and quotes to create unreliable buzz. It's quite annoying.

Was the long snapping an issue while Haushka was here? He will never get a break here. The Minnesota and Bengals games the Ravens did not wake up until too late. Please, we got to move on. No Stover.
