Ravens get some love from ESPN.com

Well, I guess somebody was impressed with the Ravens' 16-0 road victory over the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football, because they moved up from 14th place to 11th place in the ESPN.com NFL Power Rankings.

Of course, those are the same Power Rankings -- along with SI.com -- that had the Ravens as the best team in the NFL after Week 3 but who's counting. This week, ESPN ranks the Ravens as the best 5-4 team in the sport, jumping ahead of the Eagles, Texans and Falcons. They could jump back to No.6 or 7 with an upset victory over the Colts this Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.

If you're holding your breath on that, you might turn blue.

My first take of the week on the Ravens/Colts showdown will be posted on the Web site later today.

And the latest line for Sunday is Ravens by one.

I need these people to come appraise my house. Or let me try to sell them something.

Pete's reply: That's amazing. I just put up a post on that.

I agree Fan. The Ravens will need to play a perfect game to be competitive. But this the NFL, stranger things have happened.

Colts & Manning vs our Ravens declining defense. CHECKMATE ! Our best chance will be to try to run it down their throats and keep our defense off the field b/c there is no way we can win a shootout.

That is because outside of debbie-downer, wet-my-pants, the-sky-is-falling Baltimore, people look at things more objectively instead of being so afraid of losing.

Foxsports has them (cough , cough ) #7 .

Off topic here folks and sorry for the interruption but Thanksgiving is coming up and there are family and loved ones fighting for us in Afghanistan and Iraq. Please send a note of thanks to them. It's free and only takes a minute. Thanks!

The Bengals, who are now 7-2, and swept both the Steelers and Ravens barely beat Cleavland with just a few seconds left in overtime. Maybe the Browns defense is not that bad, it's just the Brown's offense is that much worse. We need to get back to our passing game that we had the first couple of weeks. Stretch the field and then run it down their throats the second half.

Are you kidding? Who cares about the power rankings, the whole broadcast on Monday night was dedicated to the Browns leaving Cleveland. They didnt start talking about the Ravens until midway through the 4th quarter. And of course they couldnt mention the Colts leaving Baltimore at all. The whole MNF broadcast was basically a tribute to the Browns, their fans and the city of Cleveland. It made me want to puke.

Colts by 15. :-(

Doesn't really matter- Colts by 1 is 1 too many.

I'm not as worried about the D as some -- it seems to be jelling a bit -- but now the offense seems strangely unfocused and undisciplined. You'll need 35-40 points to beat the Colts, not 16.

Pete's reply: The D may have been jelling a bit, but now it will be without Suggs.

The stat geeks at Footballoutsiders.com have the Ravens at #5 this week.

Just sayin'.

Matt,

Your assessment of the MNF game was dead on. I rolled my eyes when they talked about Modell moving the team.

Cleveland shot themselves in the foot and lost the team on their own. They built a publically funded stadium for the Indians, but did not address the Browns. Modell was getting rent checks from the Indians because he owned the stadium they played in. With no rent coming in, he did what millions of Americans are doing and 'Short Saled' it to Baltimore. Cry me a freaking river. Look in the mirror Cleveland! Stop sulking and get Modell into the HOF! His importance to the game should outweigh your hatred. In the end, you got your team back.

I thought Gruden needed his own motel room with the Cleveland team. Everything was about Cleveland coming from his mouth. I did not like Chucky that much to begin with. I hate him now. His voice makes me cringe like my ex-wife's does.

I have the Colts #1.

I have the Ravens #10.

Still and for one week only, Ravens 31 Colts 26.

Two years ago it was a worse Ravens' team than this that gave the undefeated Patriots all they could handle befor losing on the last drive. Maybe this time we can do it for 60 minutes. I know, I know... we had different CBs then; just sayin'.

The Raven's have no chance of beating the Colts. You can pretty much chalk this up in the "L" columb. I'm a huge fan of the Ravens, but right now the team is going through some growing pains. At this point, with the remainder of the season being what it is, I have no confidence in the team making the playoffs.

It's bad enough that the defense has really slipped this year, partially due to terrible off season decisons, but now Flacco is starting to get happy feet due to the offensive line getting manhandled to last 2 games. I have not seen joe look so uncomfortable in the pocket as i have the last 2 games,i actually think he has regressed, something that can't be good with the upcoming schedule coming up. The ravens really need to run the ball down there throats this week forcing them to bring 8 and 9 up in the box. They will play a cover 2 against us just like cinn knowing that our receivers don't get any seperation.

If our Ravens beat the Colts, I will not drink anymore. I will not drink any less either... ;)

Power rankings have two things in common with the six players the O's signed today---useless and meaningless.

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Obviously, you aren't paying close enough attention to be that sarcastic. The Orioles didn't sign anyone. They moved some minor league players to the 40-man roster. Two of those players -- Josh Bell and Brandon Snyder -- are pretty decent prospects.

Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
