Rude wake up call
Sorry, I'm just waking up after staying up all night watching the Maryland football team cash it's IOU in California. Remember that the Terps ambushed a ranked Cal team early last season at Byrd Stadium, 35-27, in a game that wasn't as close as the final score. This one wasn't much closer than the 52-13 final, but both games prove how tough it is to travel coast-to-coast and play three time zones away from home.
It wasn't pretty, but I'm pretty sure the Terps are a better team than that...or, at least, I certainly hope so.

Good Afternoon Pete,
Speaking of wake up calls, looks as though Melvin has woken from his slumber.
Melvin has started Both rallies today. It's fun to watch! Just makes you wonder how someone can seem completely lost through most of the season, then figure it out, to carry the team.
I'm guessing that 99.9% of the fans, have started penciling in a new 3rd basemen for next year.
If Melvin could have a year like he did in 2008, would you offer him a 1 year contract with a club option?
It's been a great day for Guthrie and the rest of the bench players as well, so far.
Knock on Pine.

Pete's reply: If Melvin could have a year like 2008, of course you would pick up his $8 million option for 2010, but since most of the evidence points in the opposite direction, I suspect they won't pick up the option and probably won't try to sign him to a cheaper one-year deal, but you never know.

Okay, so I'm not blaming the officials, and I could see the Terps had 8 on the line when the TD is called back, but . . .
I saw at least 4 phantom penalties on the early going, and some obvious fouls committed by the G. Bears, with no flags flown.
I think the early bad calls brought the Terps down, and it was a proverbial track meet from the middle of the 2nd Quarter on (I had enough when the G. Bears got to 30-6).
Depressing loss.
On the other hand, why didn't the Terps schedule Wofford, Delaware, or another cupcake game for the first contest?
On the other hand, maybe Cal fans are asking why the G. Bears scheduled such a weak opponent for their first game.

I'm not surprised but I am disappointed. I assumed we'd lose but very worried by how the O-line got man-handled so badly. The o-line coach has a lot of work to do before the Middle Tenn State game. If they don't improve and fast we may not win more than 3 games this year! On the other hand, how 'bout dem O's! 2 in a row!
PS-Pete, don't let the idiots who question your integrity get to you.

I would pick up the option if he waives his no trade clause AND you can not get anything better at 3rd during the off season. Josh Bell has been on fire since going to Bowie. Maybe a September 2010 call up? Calling him up anytime sooner will spoil this raw talent.
"Keep him in the cooker for another year"

@logiopath: you're not really going to whine about officiating are you? you don't get to whine about the officiating when you lose by 39 points (with mercy, it could have been 69).
