Ravens: Late laments

Even though the second half of the last preseason game doesn't feature a lot of guys who will see a lot of playing time against the Kansas City Chiefs in the regular season opener, you can see by his body language that John Harbaugh never stops demanding perfect execution.

He wasn't happy when Ernie Wheelwright dropped what would have been a touchdown pass, and went looking for answers when long snapper Matt Katula bounced the snap on the 33-yard field goal by Steve Hauschka. He had to be shaking his head when the normally dependable Katula also delivered a low snap on a punt in the fourth quarter.

The Ravens appear to on their way to an undefeated preseason, but you can bet that Harbaugh's postgame news conference will focus on the penalties and other mistakes. That's what it's all about with 10 days remaining before the opener.

fire trembley

So I have to wonder... is Anonymous actually DT asking for his release??

Well,Pete, sadly enough my 100 loss prediction is looking more and more plausible, and my theory that Trembley was just another yes man to the front office has proven to be true.My interest in the Orioles has dwindled to an occasional lukewarm comment and that's sad.Not sure that next year will be much better.Pie has looked alot better and worked very hard but Adam Jones struggled down the stretch and Jim Johnson as our closer inspires no confidence in me at all.We got very little out of any of our last 7 trades in my opinion, going back to Chad Bradford, and including Miguel Tejada, sad to say.The good news is we should get a high draft pick, the bad news is we are still 2 or 3 years away from even reaching .500.GO RAVENS and MD.

Pete's reply: Name me a manager who isn't a yes man to the front office.

Pete, are you drinking the negativity Kool-Aid here? j/k

Pete's reply: It's just a Diet Coke.

fire Mike Preston

Do NOT fire Smuck - we NEED Smuck!!

Burt, given the stated organizational goals-which were laid out in plain sight for all to see-what exactly should AM and DT in particular have done this year that would have won this team enough games to put your consistent boring ragging to rest? Perhaps DT should have thrown a tantrum , cursing out AM and PA, screaming at players, berating the ballboys. He KNEW what the deal was, and reupped for the job. And doing the dirty work that someone needs to do is not so pretty, but there is no way around it.

It's one thing to disagree with the long-term strategy of the club, and harp on that. It's another thing to beat the same drum every night when you are supposedly smart enough to know what the deal is, knowing the deal wasn't going to produce your satisfactory result.

By the way, if you think the lack of return for Chad Bradford has any importance at all on the long term health of this franchise, then I guess I know all I need to know about you and your views about building a baseball franchise.
You're not in charge, thankfully. And let it go already.

Any chance Harbaugh and Rosburg asked Katula to snap it low in the 4th to see how Hauschka would react to a non perfect lineup (i.e. would he rush his kick or keep his head)?

.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: No, because you could read Harbaugh's lips when he was asking what happened with the first low snap. He wasn't happy.

Isn't that interesting.

A coach holding his players to a high standard in a MEANINGLESS game.

Me thinks our baseball manager should take notes.

Hey Mark,

You're so right. Flacco was held to a very high standard last night. I hear his baseball had had to be perfectly centered at all times and his pads had to be neatly stored in his locker or he'd face fines and the Kangaroo Court after the game.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
