Today's featured comment

Today's featured comment comes from our funny friend Chris Joseph, who read my "News Item" about Danica Patrick possibly posing nude in ESPN The Magazine and let his mind wander somewhere you -- and I -- don't ever want to go:

Chris's take: Pete, can you confirm or deny reports that you are appearing in a nude spread in Baltimore Magazine along with Tom Davis and Fred Manfra called "The Beefy Boys of Baltimore Baseball Broadcasting"? Don't forget to list your turn-ons, turn-offs, and your favorite color.

Pete's reply: I really hate it when a relatively innocent situation where I was in the Orioles broadcast booth with Fred Manfra and Tom Davis and we were all naked gets blown so out of proportion.

fire trembley

Hahahah, brilliant!

Pete,

Stop lying you know you would love and welcome that situation any day of the week. In addition you probably would want Trembley, AM and Agelos to be there also lathered in vaseline.

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I hate to nitpick, but you can't work Vaseline into a lather. I only know that because I look up lots of things at Wikipedia.

Did I say vaseline?? I meant money.

Pete, do you think Mike Piazza would have any interest in coaching? Don't know if he'd come to Baltimore, unless, like you said, guys flock to open manager spots, but I think he'd be a great coach.

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Hadn't considered Mike. He coached during the WBC, I think, but don't know what his aspirations are.

Did I say money?? I meant blood... Oriole blood. Its your yearly ritual to keep birdland under control.

How many teams has Freel been on this season 4?

Pete you can probably work anything into lather

Pete - I really didn't need that mental image- what's the equivalent of soap for the mind?

Big Mike

THERE'S PROOF THE ORIOLES ARE MAKING PROGRESS was your latest article. In that article you chose to enlighten the fans of baltimore that orioles are playing better and that andy's rebuilding plan is on schedule. However since you took the positive route to your article and tried to make us believe that the teams we just played are so good, i will take my usual negative route. The white sox are 1 gane under 500 the twins are just at 500 and although tampa bay is playing 543 ball they are 10/1/2 games out of first place and they play 24 out of there next 35 games against teams above 500. The central divison where 2 out of the 3 teams play is the easiest divison in all of baseball but you wanted to put a postive spin on things. What you failed to mention pete was the series before we played these teams we played a hapless KC team that has fewer wins then us and they beat us 2 out of 3 at home.I have been listneing to the bruce cunningham show on days when Mike Preston has been a guest and after listening to him speak i certainly have changed my mind about him. While he always takes a rap for being to critical of the home town teams he made a statement that is absolutely the truth. No matter what happens and no matter how bad these teams play all the fans of this town want is to be told the truth something that even dave t mentioned the other night while he was walking the streets of baltimore at 2:30 in the morning. My point to all of this is i really think that no matter what happens your views always have a postive slant to them even when the actual facts point out something different. You said that these teams we played were good teams and with the exception of tampa bay the other 2 have really have stunk up the field. So see pete while you often mentioned to the fans that disagree with you that you have watched over 4000 games in your time as a sportswriter i believe you should start telling the fans more of the actual facts instead of trying to brainwash them into thinking that things are better.

.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Somehow, you wrote another novel and didn't point out one thing in my column that was factually false. Sorry, Bob, I don't share your jaundiced view of the world. Get over it.

Blancione,
What was Trembley doing walking the streets of Baltimore at 2:30 am? Looking for Pete’s blood orgy? Searching for a #3 meal at McDonalds?? Forgot where he parked?

After that loss the other night he couldn't sleep and went to jimmy's to have breakfast.

ahhh I knew it had something to do with eating!

Wait wait wait!!! So Trembley is now making his interviews into commercials for local eateries! Hahahah This guy knows hes a goner and is trying hard to cash in every little bit before.

Why do I feel the need to gouge my eyes out after reading about Pete, Tom, Fred and Vaseline in the same post? LOL

BLancione - you are like Bill O'Reilly. You think spinning in the opposite direction is an absence of spin. Pete is fairly evenly divided in his critical vs complimentary posts and the majority are of neither vein. You on the other hand are totally lopsided on the side of negative spin. What you dont like is that his negative observations are not expressed in the inflammatory and insulting bombast that you use. Just because he/we disagree with you, doesnt mean we believe all is hunky dory. It is just that your spin is so outragoeusly one sided and that you do exactly what you accuse Peter of . . . Your views always have a negative spin even when the facts point to the opposite. This accusation is so much more true when applied to you than to Peter or Roch or any other columnist/blogger of any note, that your accusing Peter of it is ludicrous on the very face of it.

Hey Anonymous, Trembley is not going anywhere and no lobbying is going to make any difference! Good things are happening with this team and your rant on Trembley are getting long....

Blancione ... someone who writes as badly as you should at least minimize our pain and keep it as succinct as possible. (Look it up)

Hey Paul B from Towson Kiss my A@@ is that Succinct enough for you .Or is it CLEAR PRECISE AND A EXPRESSION IN A FEW WORDS.

Blancione --

Glad you know how to use a dictionary. Good for you.

Now get Strunk's "Elements of Style" and maybe you'll learn how use proper grammar and punctuation. Then, with a lot of practice, maybe you'll be able to write a coherent sentence.

We'll be watching and pulling for you buddy.

Hey, you live in towson why don't you meet me and tell me all of that bull to my face .

...............................................................................................
Pete's reply: That's enough of that crap. Everybody mellow out.

D+

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Okay, let's all lighten up.

funny man, funny!

btw finally home for a two week break and loving every minute of it!

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Welcome home, buddy. Is there somebody I can bribe to keep you here?

I still say HIRE PALMER! Best baseball mind in existance. Big ego but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be a BIG improvement over the present. Give him $%M/year over 5 years and he'll leave retirement. Players would surely listen to him. Dempster could be his bully guy. Straighten out a lot of guys. What va way to get back to "The Oriole Way"!

That was supposed to be: Give Palmer $5M over 5 years...

I'll get it right eventually. "Give Palmer $5M/year for 5 years..."

Bribe sounds good Pete, but I have another Spring Training to knock out.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
